Chapter 29
May was busy working on her laptop, she was so into what she was doing that she didn’t even notice when Mike walked into her department and came to stand behind her.
He bent down a little and whispered. “What are you working on?”
May who was startled mistakingly slapped his face before jumping up in freight.
“Ouch!” Mike hissed in pain.
When May saw him she covered her mouth. “I… I’m so sorry, you startled me, I didn’t mean to hit you.” She apologized
“It’s fine, I just didn’t want to speak so loud and bother the other workers.” Mike replied.
May looked around to see the other workers staring at them, she apologized for the noise and they all went back to what they were doing.
“Come with me.” She took Mike’s hand and dragged him away.
When they got outside her department, she let him go, something Mike wasn’t pleased about since he missed the contact the moment she let go of his hand.
“What in the world are you doing here?” May asked, folding her hands across her chest.
“I just thought I should see you, I don’t understand why you left the other day, we weren’t even done talking but you left when I told you I and Adams were best friend. Why?” He asked, and May became a bit nervous.
“It’s nothing, I wasn’t expecting you to be friends with him and also, I was running late too, so I had to leave.”
“Do you perhaps know Adams? Or maybe have a personal beef with him or something?”
“Personal beef?”
“Like an issue with him, it clearly looks to me like you’ve got something against him.”
May thought about this for a while, she didn’t know if she should tell him the truth or just cover it up with something else, but she remembered her conversation with Alicia and just decides to tell him the truth.
“Okay, I’m not going to try and butter this up, I do have an issue with him, in fact I hate that man so much and before you ask me why, I’m Alicia’s best friend, we’ve been together for years and we met in London, I know about everything that happened between her and Adams, so yes, I do have something against him.” She bluntly told him.
Mike then remembered what Adams told him the first time he went to see Alicia at her house, he mentioned a lady who was Alicia’s best friend and how she threatened him, he then realized that the lady Adams mentioned was May.
“Oh God.” He muttered. “You’re Alicia’s best friend!?” He asked, May nodded.
“Wow, I didn’t know, h… how’s she? Is she fine, I would love to meet her.”
May folded her hands across her chest. “Hope you’re not going to try talking her into getting back together with your best friend. “She replied, laying emphasis on the word best friend.
“Of course not, I haven’t seen her in forever and I’ll love to meet with her.” Mike replied.
May looked at him suspiciously for a while, then she shrugged. “Fine then, I’ll tell her that.” She made to leave but Mike held
her hand.
“What?”

“Are you free tonight? Maybe we could hang out.”
“I’m not.” May replied as she took her hand away from his. “I’ve got a load of work that I need to see to so bye.”
Before Mike could say anything else, she hurriedly walked off.

A small smile graced Mike’s lips, he didn’t know if she was playing hard to get or something, but he’s not going to give up on her so easily.
Night time….
Mike was done for the day and was heading home, the highway was a bit lonely as not much cars seems to be driving there, he brought down his glass to let the cool evening breeze in, he sighed in satisfaction, feeling more relaxed, he then turned on the radio to enjoy some music, it’s quite obvious that he’s in a good mood, after all, he’s always been the cheerful kind of guy.
He was still enjoying his time driving when a dark sedan swerved in front of his car, barely missing a collision. Mike slammed on the breaks, his heart pounding as the car screeched to a stop just inches from his. The sudden stop left him breathless and shaken, his hands gripping the steering wheel in a white–knuckled grip.
Mike’s head light were on, so he could make out the other car well, but he only had to squint his eyes a little bit, the sedan car had tinted windows and its engine still purring ominously. Mike’s stomach clenched, a sense of foreboding settling over him. This didn’t feel right, something was off and he was slowly starting to panic.
Two men got out of the sedan car, they were dressed in an all black outfit and had a mask covering their faces and they were holding a baseball bat. Mike’s hand trembled as he hurriedly rolled up the window. The men quickly approached his car.
The men swung the baseball bat at Mike’s car, the sound of metal on metal filling the air. Mike flinched as the bat made contact with the door, leaving a deep dent. The men then raised their bag for another blow, smashing his windows. Mike’s heart was pounding, adrenaline coursing through his veins.
The men continued with their assault on his car until they were satisfied with the damage they’ve caused, they then went to stand in front of Mike’s car, they threw their baseball bat away and signaled for him to come out of the car.
Mike stared at the car that cost him millions to get and he couldn’t believe the damage this men has done to his car and now they were asking for a fight, he doesn’t even have the time to call anyone and his only option is to take care of things himself, he took in countless of deep breath as he prepared himself both physically and mentally for what’s about to happen, he only got out of the car when he was ready.
Mike weighed his opponents very well, they seemed bigger than him but he’s not going to let their size intimidate him, rather he’s going to make them pay for what they just did.
“Who are you guys? Why did you come after me?” He asked.
“You can figure that out in hell.” One of the men replied.
The men rushed towards Mike, their hands balled into fists. Mike gritted his teeth and braced himself, preparing for the blows. The first punch landed on his jaw, a sharp pain exploding in his head, but he didn’t give up, he fought back, throwing punches of
his own.
The men were bigger and stronger, but he had something they didn’t, he has the advantage of agility and quick thinking on his
side.
As the men try to overpower him, he ducks and weaves, avoiding their blows and landing a few of his own. The men were starting to get tired and their punches growing weaker, but they’re still a threat to him as long as they’re still standing.
Mike thought fast about what to do, his eyes then went to the baseball bat lying not too far off from where he stood, and then an idea struck him. The men threw a punch at him but Mike hurriedly duck, he swiftly ran over to where the bat was lying and grabs

it, he ran over to one of the men, swinging it around in a quick, practiced motion. The bat connects with the side of the man’s head, and he crumples to the ground.
Seeing what Mike did to his partner, the other was enraged, he charged towards Mike with renewed anger, but then Mike swings the bat again, knocking the man out cold.
Mike stood there, bat still in hand, breathing hard. The men lay on the ground unconscious, he stared at them wondering who must have sent them to him, he thought hard about it but no one came to his mind, he also didn’t want to waste any more time there since his body was in a lot of pain and he was super exhausted.
He threw the bat away and staggered to his car, they had only damaged his windows and the car door so he could still drive the car, when he got in, he drove off immediately, not caring what happens to the men.
He didn’t know if it’s by sheer luck that he’s managed to survive today, but he could only hope that whoever sent those men doesn’t launch another attack.
Sadly, he failed to get the name of whoever sent them.
