Chapter 24

Adams was on a business call with one of his company investor when he heard a knock on his door, he turned to look at the 

door then he covered his phone with his left hand before asking the person to come in. 

When Adams saw it was Mike, he rolled his eyes at him before continuing his conversation with the investor. 

Mike didn’t fail to notice how Adams rolled his eyes when he saw him, the moment he took a sit opposite Adams, he rolled 

his eyes back at him. 

He waited until Adams was done with the call before saying anything. 

“Good morning boss.” He greeted with a smile. 

Adams frowned a little bit, something wasn’t right because Mike never refers to him as boss, the rat only calls him Adams. 

“What do you want Mike?” Adams relaxed into his chair. 

“Nothing much, just came to check up on you and also give you this.” He placed a big brown envelope in front of Adams.” That’s the research you asked me to make on the other company, apparently they’re not much of a competitor so you shouldn’t bother yourself with them.” 

Adams picked up the envelope and brought out the documents in it, he went through it and nodded in satisfaction at the 

report he was seeing. 

“Good then.” He said, then he put the documents back in the envelope and kept it aside. 

He looked at Mike who was giving him a suspicious look. “Anything else? Why are you looking at me like that?” He asked. 

“I have a question Adams, do you know anyone by the name May?” 

Adams thought about this for a while but he didn’t seem to know anyone by that name. “No, why?” 

“There’s this new worker in the company, she’s actually in the marketing department to be precise, I ran into her earlier and 

we talked, everything seems to be going pretty well until I told her we were best friends, her reaction was something else, it’s like she knows you and obliviously have a problem with you.” 

“I’m not surprised by that Mike, most people seem to have a problem with me so that shouldn’t come as a shock.” 

Before Mike could reply, the door to Adams office suddenly opened, revealing Mrs Bridget and Bianca. 

Adams and Mike were both shocked to see them there. “Mom?” Adams instantly stood up and Mike followed suit. 

“Mom, what are you doing here? And why’s she with you?” 

“Good morning Mrs Bridget.” Mike greeted and she nodded in reply. 

“And Adams, can’t I come see my own son?” 

Adams scoffed “You never come to the office to see me mom, so tell me, what brings you here?” 

“You’re impossible Adams, the way you speak to me, no child will ever speak to their parent in such a way, do you hate me 

that much huh?” 

Mike looked at Adams, then at his mother, the tension in the office is just too much and he doesn’t even want to stay there 

any longer 

He was about leaving when Mrs Bridget said something that caught his attention. 

“Fine, I’ll go straight to the point of why I’m here because if I had called you to come home then you wouldn’t have listened to me I went to see your ex wife” 

“What!?” Adams said in shock “You went to see Alicia? Why?”

“Isn’t it obvious? I told her to stay the hell away from you because she’s the one stopping you from moving on with your life so yes I went to see her for that reason and yes Adams, you really need to stay away from that woman or else you’ll end up 

behind bars, that’s what she said to me at least.” 

“You really should see how she talked to me, I couldn’t believe the guts of that lady and her actions only gave me more 

reasons to dislike her and I want you to stay away from that woman Adams!” She stated firmly. “Bianca is here and she’s 

much more better than Alicia, so just do the right thing by staying away from your ex wife Adams, you two have been divorced for years now, I see no reason why you can’t move on with your life when she’s already moved on with hers, the 

child you claim to be yours isn’t even yours, that child belongs to someone else so wake up from that stupid dream that you 

have a child with Alicia.” 

Adams scoffed in disbelief, he didn’t think his mother would go this far just to keep him from Alicia. “You shouldn’t have done this mother, you shouldn’t have. If you think you going to see her will make me give up on her and move on with that thing beside you then you must be kidding me because nothing on earth that you or anyone else will do can keep me from Alicia, and I’m done with this conversation.” He grabbed his phone and made to leave but his mother held his hand. 

“Where are you going to Adams!?” She questioned furiously. 

Adams looked at her with nothing but rage in his eyes, if she hadn’t been his mother then he would have done something drastic and he won’t regret it a single bit, but he managed to restrain himself from doing what he had in mind, he simply 

pushed her hand away and rushed out of the office. 

Mrs Bridget sharply turned to Bianca. “Don’t just stand there, go after him!” She ordered. 

“Yes Ma’am.” Bianca replied before running after Adams. 

Mrs Bridget was boiling with anger, she balled her fist in rage, that woman called Alicia has succeeded in tearing her family apart and she’s not going to sit still and let things go this way, she’s more than willing to go to any extent to keep Alicia and Adams apart, she doesn’t like that woman one bit and she’s never going to let her reunite with her son. Never! 

Mike didn’t know what to do, but he could already tell where Adams was headed and he’s going after him, he excused himself before rushing out of Adams office.
