Her father fell silent for a moment: “It was him. Traded the Seaport District project for you. I was sick of looking at you anyway, so it was a win–win.” 

The phone crashed to the floor, its screen shattering. 

Scarlett suddenly burst into hysterical laughter. 

The sound echoed through the empty villa–a raw, gut–wrenching laugh that dissolved into tears. 

“Jackson Blackwell… you really outdid yourself.” 

After what seemed like an eternity, Scarlett wiped away her tears and walked to her room, pulling out her already–packed suitcase. 

She walked step by step toward the door, each step feeling like treading on razor blades, yet she moved with unwavering determination. 

At the entryway, she paused. 

Her fingers unconsciously caressed the lighter in her pocket- 

It was a birthday gift from Jackson, engraved with “To Scarlett” in his own handwriting. 

She suddenly smiled. 

The next moment, she unhesitatingly lit the lighter and tossed it toward the curtains. 

Flames erupted with a “whoosh,” quickly engulfing the entire living room. 

Scarlett stood outside the villa, silently watching as the fire devoured the sofa where they had made love, the dining table where they had kissed, and that bed where she had foolishly believed, even for a moment, that he might have 

cared for her.

Jackson arrived an hour later. 

The black sedan screeched to a halt in front of the villa, tires screaming against the pavement. 

He flung the car door open, faced with the sight of towering flames and Scarlett sitting calmly on her suitcase. 

She gazed at the burning villa, the firelight reflecting on her pale face, tear tracks still visible on her lashes. 

Jackson felt his chest constrict. 

He had a thousand accusations ready, but upon seeing her reddened eyes, they all caught in his throat. 

“Burned down the house,” he finally spoke, his voice rough. “Feeling better now, princess?” 

Scarlett slowly raised her eyes. 

Those eyes that had once been filled with love now contained nothing but emptiness. 

She looked at Jackson as if he were a stranger, not saying a single word. 

“Mr. Blackwell,” his assistant rushed over. “The private jet is ready. The meeting in Switzerland can’t be postponed any longer.” 

Jackson pressed his temples. “Have this villa taken care of.” 

He paused, glancing at Scarlett, “Take her to my Beacon Hill mansion.” 

“No need,” Scarlett finally spoke, her voice hoarse but resolute. “I’m going home.” 

Jackson assumed she had finally agreed to return to the Devereaux estate. His expression softened slightly. “It’s good 

you’ve come to your senses.” 

He turned and walked away, his black coat billowing in the night breeze. “I can’t always clean up your messes.” 

Scarlett stood motionless, watching his retreating figure, a faint, bitter smile playing on her lips. 

Jackson Blackwell,” she whispered, her voice so soft it almost dissolved in the night wind. “Goodbye forever.” 

“What?” He turned back. 

But Scarlett had already climbed into a waiting taxi. 

Jackson dismissed it as another of her tantrums and didn’t pursue the matter, heading straight to his car instead. 

He failed to notice that the two vehicles were heading toward the airport, one after the other. 

At the private jet tarmac, Jackson accepted documents from his assistant and boarded without a backward glance.
