Chapter 6
In the next moment, Oakley Morris appeared, flanked by a group of security guards in black suits.
“I heard someone needs proof, and it just so happens I have some.”
“Would you prefer to sort this out in public or in private?”
Oakley’s voice carried a rising inflection, with an unmistakable edge of menace.
Handling it publicly meant releasing the evidence to the media, sealing Kayce Campbell’s downfall. Handling it privately meant he’d quietly sign the papers and then disappear without a trace.
As soon as Kayce saw Oakley, his eyes widened in fear, and his legs went weak, causing him to stagger backward.
The media went into a frenzy, cameras flashing incessantly.
“This Morris Group press conference is turning into quite the spectacle!”
“First, the potential heir involved in a divorce-a classic tale of love and betrayal among the elite! And now, the illustrious Oakley Morris makes an appearance!”
“I’ve heard he prefers to keep to himself and hates drama. So why has he come here amidst the Morris Group’s commotion?”
It wasn’t just the media buzzing with questions; Alexandra Morris was equally puzzled.
As far as she knew, she had no dealings with Oakley Morris; their families were only loosely connected, at best.
He was the city’s golden boy, a giant among the elites, while she was, at most, making her way up the social ladder.
Why had he suddenly shown up to help her? Was it merely a coincidence?
His influence undoubtedly overshadowed hers.
Just one look from him was enough to make Kayce sign the divorce papers without daring to say a word.
Driven by curiosity, Alexandra looked at Oakley, bewildered, and asked him a question.
“What kind of evidence do you have? He seems really scared of you.”
Oakley smiled slightly, leaned in closer, and whispered in her ear:
“Last time, he and Chelsea Knight were getting a bit too friendly at a club, clothes all askew. I happened to catch it on video.”
As he spoke, he briefly showed her the video on his phone.
Hearing this, Alexandra’s eyes widened in shock.
The timestamp on the video was from six months ago. Had he really been betraying her all this time?
It was laughable that she had been blissfully ignorant, believing his attention was born out of love.
Now it seemed more like guilt from his infidelity…
She let out a bitter laugh, composed herself, and continued with the press conference.
What surprised her was that Oakley didn’t leave; he watched her throughout the entire event.
When everyone else had left, he was still waiting for her by the door.
“Congratulations on moving on. How about we celebrate a bit?”
He opened the passenger door of his car with a gentlemanly gesture, extending a warm invitation.
Keen to understand why Oakley had helped her, Alexandra nodded and got into the car.
“What do you feel like eating?” Oakley asked, eyes on the road, his voice gentle.
She hesitated for a moment before cautiously suggesting, “How about some comfort food?”
During her college years, she rarely visited the upscale restaurants near her campus, but the small eateries were her favorites.
Her favorite was a savory quiche made by a friendly vendor. No matter how full she was, she could always have one more.
But after graduating and marrying Kayce, her life revolved solely around him.
Having developed a taste for fine dining, he looked down on casual eateries, considering them beneath him. As a result, she hadn’t enjoyed them in years.
