Chapter 9 Let’s Check The Security Cameras

Mallory immediately jumped to Emily’s defense. If you hadn’t tricked her, why would Dr. Sterling come all the way out to this remote spot for no reason?”

The other doctors seemed to disagree. Amelia seemed frail and gentle, while Emily had impulsively slapped her the instant she showed up. How could Amelia have tricked Emily without any cause or reason

Wasn’t Emily afraid of offending Gabriel, who was backing Amelia

Dr. Sterling, maybe you’ve misunderstood Ms. Waverly? You don’t know each other well, so she has no reason to harm you.”

Yeah, isn’t this the first time they met each other? What would Ms. Waverly gain by locking Dr. Sterling in a lounge?”

Everyone had a different opinion, and no consensus was reached

Amelia rose and hid behind Gabriel, trembling with indignation. Gabe, you must get justice for me. I can’t just let Dr. Sterling slap me for no reason.”

Gabriel gazed at Emily with a profound and unreadable look. Emily knew that Gabriel wouldn’t stand on her side, but she couldn’t let herself suffer this injustice

Since you won’t admit to it, Ms. Waverly, let’s check the security cameras.”

Amelia paled, and she instinctively clutched Gabriel’s sleeve tightly

There was a frown on Gabriel’s handsome face, and he looked at Emily with an expression filled with displeasure. He snapped, Enough! Emily, stop acting unreasonably.”

Emily had foreseen this outcome. Her lips curled into a taunting smile. Mr. Holton, are you afraid of checking the security cameras because it’ll reveal the truth? Or could it be that you’ve already guessed the truth?”

Amelia’s pulse quickened. Afraid that Gabriel would agree to the inspection because of Emily’s provocation, she hurriedly tugged Gabriel’s arm. Gabe, forget it”

Gabriel didn’t glance at her. His eyes were still fixed on Emily

Are you really going to hold up the whole team’s schedule just for such a trivial matter? The impatience in his tone was as clear as day, and he continued, As the Head of Cardiac Surgery, Dr. Sterling, why can’t you think of the bigger picture?”

Emily felt that it was absurd. Clearly, Gabriel was deliberately playing favorites with Amelia

This realization made her heart feel as if it were being squeezed tightly by an invisible hand. It hurt so much that she almost couldn’t breathe. It turned out that the favored person truly could act like they had nothing to fear

As he watched the light dim in Emily’s eyes, an indescribable feeling of dullness crossed Gabriel’s heart. Noticing this, Amelia hurriedly pulled his arm, afraid that he would change his

mind

Gabe, let’s hurry. We don’t want the others to wait. She tugged him in the direction of the

minivan

Gabriel took a few steps, then suddenly halted. He glanced sideways at Amelia with a warning look, then said in a low voice, Just this oncenever again.”

Amelia’s heart trembled at the warning. She cast her gaze downward, concealing the hatred surging in her eyes. That accursed woman, Emily! Gabriel had still believed her

One day, she would make Emily vanish completely from Gabriel’s world! The team set out once more, and after driving for quite some distance, they entered a highaltitude region

Sensing an opportunity, Amelia faked a groan and clutched her forehead. GabeIIt hurts

It’s a little hard to breathe”

Gabriel glanced to the side and instantly guessed that it was altitude sickness from her agonized expression

Get the oxygen tank,he coldly told Roman

Roman complied and left. A moment later, he returned in a fluster

Mr. Holton, the portable oxygen tanks we had in the vehiclehave all disappeared.”

The look in Gabriel’s eyes chilled at once. Disappeared? There had been an inspection before the departure

Amelia struggled to open her eyes, which shimmered with tears. It made her look even more pitiful

Gabe, did someone do this on purpose to mess with me?As she said that, her to drift toward the bus that Emily’s group was in

gaze seemed

Gabriel couldn’t hear what she was saying clearly. Right now, the only thought on his mind was that Emily should have a spare oxygen tank, since she was a doctor

Get it from their bus.”

Roman hurried to the bus behind them upon receiving the order. It was much bumpier in the bus than in the minivan

Mallory was holding a small portable oxygen tank, carefully unscrewing the valve

Emily’s face was a little pale, and it was clear that she couldn’t handle the altitude

Roman squeezed in before the two, panting for breath. Dr. Sterling, Mr. Holton wants me to grab an oxygen tank. Ms. Waverly’s oxygen levels are low.”

Mallory’s temper exploded upon hearing that

Huh. It’s only now that you recall that Emily’s a doctor? Does Emily not deserve to receive the same treatment as Ms. Waverly

Sorry, but we’re almost out of oxygen, too. We’re not lending it!”

Status: Ongoing

🌙 Part 1 — The Night of Exhaustion

It was 2 a.m. when Emily Sterling lay curled up on the bed, her body trembling from exhaustion. Her husband, Gabriel Holton, had just returned from a business trip after several days, and all his pent-up desire had exploded into wild intensity.
The floor was littered with used condoms — eight in total. Emily’s throat was sore from crying out, her limbs heavy like stone. When she whispered “Water,” Gabriel wordlessly helped her sit up and brought a glass to her lips.

💔 Part 2 — Beauty Beside a Stranger

Under the warm light, Emily gazed at the man she had married two years ago. Gabriel’s sharp, striking features glowed with confidence and power — the kind of man women fell for instantly. But to Emily, he was a mystery, both familiar and unreachable.
In that quiet moment, a thought bloomed in her heart: maybe it was time for them to have a baby — a child with both their blood. Maybe a baby could bring warmth to their cold marriage.

❄️ Part 3 — The Shattered Dream

Her daydream shattered when Gabriel’s deep, indifferent voice broke the silence.
“Remember to take your pills tomorrow.”
Emily froze, then forced a bitter smile. “Even with condoms, you’re still not reassured?”
Gabriel’s lips curled in mockery. “What do you think?”
His cold words stabbed through her chest, crushing what little hope remained. The tension hung heavy between them, until a sudden phone ringtone pierced the air.

📱 Part 4 — The Name That Killed the Silence

Emily glanced at the glowing phone screen — the name Amelia appeared.
Amelia Waverly. The woman everyone knew as Gabriel’s childhood sweetheart. They had grown up together, studied together, and when she returned from abroad, Gabriel personally appointed her as his secretary. Their connection was deep, their bond undeniable. Everyone whispered that Amelia was the true woman in Gabriel’s heart — not his wife.

Part 5 — A Call That Broke Her Heart

Gabriel picked up the call immediately. Amelia’s soft voice floated clearly through the quiet room:
“Gabe, I think I’m running a slight fever. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Gabriel’s voice softened, almost tender. “Sure. Rest for now. I’ll be there shortly.”
He hung up, his expression tight with concern. Emily’s fingers trembled under the blanket as she watched him hurry to dress. A wave of pain hit her.

🌧️ Part 6 — The Memory That Burned

Her mind flashed back to last year — when she had gone on a medical mission to the countryside. A disaster struck, and terrified, she had called Gabriel for help.
But instead of comforting her, he had mocked her for “overreacting,” hanging up coldly. That night, she had nearly died in fear — and he hadn’t cared.
Now, Amelia had a mild fever, and Gabriel was willing to rush out in the middle of the night. For Emily, it was clear: her husband had never loved her.

🕯️ Part 7 — The Jealous Wife

Driven by anger and pain, Emily threw off the blanket, ran to the door, and blocked Gabriel’s path. “It’s so late. Do you really have to go?”
Gabriel looked down at her, his eyes flat, unreadable. “You’re jealous?”
Emily bit her lip and nodded. “As your wife, shouldn’t I be?”
He smirked cruelly. “You’re not worthy of being jealous of Amelia.”
His words sliced through her soul. Without another glance, he turned the doorknob and walked out, slamming the door into her shoulder as he left.

🌪️ Part 8 — Left Behind in Silence

Emily stumbled backward and collapsed to the floor. The slam echoed like thunder in her mind. Moments later, she heard the roar of his car engine fading into the distance.
The room was now painfully quiet. The sheets still smelled of him, but the warmth was gone. She wrapped her arms around her knees, trembling, tears streaming endlessly.
For the first time, she admitted the truth — she had fallen into an abyss of her own making.

💧 Part 9 — A Fool’s Love

Emily realized she had always known this marriage was hollow. She had tried to fill it with love, patience, and faith, but Gabriel had only ever kept one woman in his heart — Amelia.
She was nothing but a placeholder, a name on a marriage certificate, a woman to share his bed but not his heart.
Still, she couldn’t stop the ache. Even in pain, she had loved him too deeply, hoping he might one day look at her with tenderness. That hope now turned to ashes.

🔥 Part 10 — The Final Blow

Just as her tears began to dry, her phone rang again.
It was her best friend, Mallory Prescott.
“Mills! Guess who I just saw — your husband! He’s got a woman in his arms, and they look real close. That bastard! Couldn’t he have gone to any other hospital? He came to yours! Is he trying to disgust you on purpose?”
Emily’s hand trembled as she listened. Her vision blurred with tears, not from surprise — but confirmation. Everything she had feared was real.
Gabriel hadn’t just left her alone; he had humiliated her completely.

That night, Emily Sterling realized it was truly time to leave — not just the house, but the man who had never once looked back.
