Chapter 51 You Were Gambling Again

Emily wasn’t there at all.

A wave of fury surged within Gabriel. Had he been fooled?

He pulled out his phone and dialed Emily’s number. However, it was only to be met with the cold, automated voicemail message.

“The number you have dialed is currently unavailable.”

Gabriel hung up the phone, his grip on the phone tightening.

Emily was really testing his patience.

With that, he turned around and called Roman. “Find her. I want to know where Emily is in five minutes.”

Back at the Sterling residence, Emily dragged her exhausted body into the living room.

Maurice rushed to her, his face filled with anxiety and disappointment. “Well? Did you find him?”

Emily wearily shook her head.

“You’re utterly useless! What was the point of raising you if you couldn’t even find your own brother?

“Maurice roared.

Emily looked at him, dejected.

All he ever cared about was Cole.

Just then, the front door clicked open, and Cole stumbled inside. His clothes were rumpled, his hair a

mess, and he had dark circles under his eyes.

“Cole!” Maurice’s expression instantly brightened. He rushed forward to support his son. “Where have you been? You worried me to death!”

Emily, however, coldly glared at him. She could smell the mixture of cigarettes, cheap alcohol, and perfume on Cole-he must have been at the casino again.

She stepped forward and snapped, “You were gambling again!”

Cole’s heart skipped a beat, and he avoided her gaze. “What are you talking about? I was just out with some friends. My phone died!” he protested.

“Emily! Is that any way to talk to your brother? He just got home! Instead of being concerned, you’re giving him lectures!” Maurice immediately came to Cole’s defense.

As Emily looked at the two of them, she felt nothing but bitter irony.

Arguing with them was pointless.

Upon seeing her back down, Cole sighed with relief and seized the opportunity. “Dad, Emily, I’m exhausted. I’m going to bed.”

With that, he practically fled up the stairs.

He didn’t dare tell them the truth.

The 500 thousand from Damien was gone, and he was now another one million dollars in debt. If Maurice found out, he’d break his legs.

Up in his room, Cole anxiously paced, running his hands through his hair.

What was he going to do?

At that moment, his phone rang.

The caller ID showed “Damien.”

Cole’s hand trembled as he answered the call, and Damien’s impatient voice soon came through the phone, “Where’s the money?”

Cole’s heart seized, and a cold sweat broke out across his back. He forced a laugh and said, worry, Damien. I’ll have it for you first thing tomorrow morning. I swear.”

“Don’t

Damien scoffed, “Tomorrow morning? How are you going to do that?”

“I…” Cole stammered, his mind racing for a way out. Driven by desperation, he made up his mind to go all-in. “Damien! Lend me more money! Just a little! I can feel it. Tonight’s the night I turn it all around. I’ll pay you back everything, and with interest too!”

There was a heavy silence on the end of the line.

Just as Cole felt like he had lost all hope, Damien coldly chuckled.

“You know, there might be another way,” Damien started. “I hear you have a sister.”

All the color drained from Cole’s face.

How did Damien know about Emily?

“She’s quite the looker,” Damien lewdly continued. “Here’s the deal. Bring her here to keep me company for a few drinks. Do that, and not only will I give you more cash, but I’ll even wipe your

current debt clean. How’s that sound?”

Cole froze, his grip on the phone tightening.

How could he hand over his own sister to a monster like Damien?

Instantly, an image of Emily’s proud, unyielding face flashed in his mind.

No. Absolutely not.

But he now carried the weight of the one million dollar debt, and he could never pay it back. A man

like Damien would kill him.

Soon, Damien lost his patience. “Don’t waste my time, kid. This isn’t a request,” he warned Cole.

Then, he shifted his tone and casually said, “What are you so worried about? I’m not going to hurt

her. We’ll just talk and have a few drinks.

“I heard she’s divorcing that rich husband of hers anyway. A divorced woman’s going to need a new

right? She could do a lot worse than me.”

man,

The word “divorce” echoed in Cole’s mind.

It was true. Emily was indeed leaving Gabriel. Soon, she wouldn’t be his wife anymore, and without Gabriel’s protection, she would be nothing. Instead, she would need him and this family to survive.

If Cole had more money, he could win it all back. He could be somebody again. Then, he could protect Emily and their family. That was what this was about.

The thought, once planted, spread like a poison, overwhelming every last shred of Cole’s conscience.

🌙 Part 1 — The Night of Exhaustion

It was 2 a.m. when Emily Sterling lay curled up on the bed, her body trembling from exhaustion. Her husband, Gabriel Holton, had just returned from a business trip after several days, and all his pent-up desire had exploded into wild intensity.
The floor was littered with used condoms — eight in total. Emily’s throat was sore from crying out, her limbs heavy like stone. When she whispered “Water,” Gabriel wordlessly helped her sit up and brought a glass to her lips.

💔 Part 2 — Beauty Beside a Stranger

Under the warm light, Emily gazed at the man she had married two years ago. Gabriel’s sharp, striking features glowed with confidence and power — the kind of man women fell for instantly. But to Emily, he was a mystery, both familiar and unreachable.
In that quiet moment, a thought bloomed in her heart: maybe it was time for them to have a baby — a child with both their blood. Maybe a baby could bring warmth to their cold marriage.

❄️ Part 3 — The Shattered Dream

Her daydream shattered when Gabriel’s deep, indifferent voice broke the silence.
“Remember to take your pills tomorrow.”
Emily froze, then forced a bitter smile. “Even with condoms, you’re still not reassured?”
Gabriel’s lips curled in mockery. “What do you think?”
His cold words stabbed through her chest, crushing what little hope remained. The tension hung heavy between them, until a sudden phone ringtone pierced the air.

📱 Part 4 — The Name That Killed the Silence

Emily glanced at the glowing phone screen — the name Amelia appeared.
Amelia Waverly. The woman everyone knew as Gabriel’s childhood sweetheart. They had grown up together, studied together, and when she returned from abroad, Gabriel personally appointed her as his secretary. Their connection was deep, their bond undeniable. Everyone whispered that Amelia was the true woman in Gabriel’s heart — not his wife.

Part 5 — A Call That Broke Her Heart

Gabriel picked up the call immediately. Amelia’s soft voice floated clearly through the quiet room:
“Gabe, I think I’m running a slight fever. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Gabriel’s voice softened, almost tender. “Sure. Rest for now. I’ll be there shortly.”
He hung up, his expression tight with concern. Emily’s fingers trembled under the blanket as she watched him hurry to dress. A wave of pain hit her.

🌧️ Part 6 — The Memory That Burned

Her mind flashed back to last year — when she had gone on a medical mission to the countryside. A disaster struck, and terrified, she had called Gabriel for help.
But instead of comforting her, he had mocked her for “overreacting,” hanging up coldly. That night, she had nearly died in fear — and he hadn’t cared.
Now, Amelia had a mild fever, and Gabriel was willing to rush out in the middle of the night. For Emily, it was clear: her husband had never loved her.

🕯️ Part 7 — The Jealous Wife

Driven by anger and pain, Emily threw off the blanket, ran to the door, and blocked Gabriel’s path. “It’s so late. Do you really have to go?”
Gabriel looked down at her, his eyes flat, unreadable. “You’re jealous?”
Emily bit her lip and nodded. “As your wife, shouldn’t I be?”
He smirked cruelly. “You’re not worthy of being jealous of Amelia.”
His words sliced through her soul. Without another glance, he turned the doorknob and walked out, slamming the door into her shoulder as he left.

🌪️ Part 8 — Left Behind in Silence

Emily stumbled backward and collapsed to the floor. The slam echoed like thunder in her mind. Moments later, she heard the roar of his car engine fading into the distance.
The room was now painfully quiet. The sheets still smelled of him, but the warmth was gone. She wrapped her arms around her knees, trembling, tears streaming endlessly.
For the first time, she admitted the truth — she had fallen into an abyss of her own making.

💧 Part 9 — A Fool’s Love

Emily realized she had always known this marriage was hollow. She had tried to fill it with love, patience, and faith, but Gabriel had only ever kept one woman in his heart — Amelia.
She was nothing but a placeholder, a name on a marriage certificate, a woman to share his bed but not his heart.
Still, she couldn’t stop the ache. Even in pain, she had loved him too deeply, hoping he might one day look at her with tenderness. That hope now turned to ashes.

🔥 Part 10 — The Final Blow

Just as her tears began to dry, her phone rang again.
It was her best friend, Mallory Prescott.
“Mills! Guess who I just saw — your husband! He’s got a woman in his arms, and they look real close. That bastard! Couldn’t he have gone to any other hospital? He came to yours! Is he trying to disgust you on purpose?”
Emily’s hand trembled as she listened. Her vision blurred with tears, not from surprise — but confirmation. Everything she had feared was real.
Gabriel hadn’t just left her alone; he had humiliated her completely.

That night, Emily Sterling realized it was truly time to leave — not just the house, but the man who had never once looked back.
