Gabriel froze.
He didn’t realize Emily was in such a hurry to cut ties with him. She couldn’t wait to move on to the next guy, and he wondered if she had set her sights on Robert or someone new.
Gabriel’s hands clenched into fists.
He couldn’t believe Emily’s guts. Here he was, trying to figure out how to calm this storm. Meanwhile, she was planning on divorcing him.
His dark eyes filled with rage.
He took a step back, and turned around without a word.
Since she was so desperate to leave him, he would make sure things didn’t go her way.
By late afternoon, the hallways had emptied. Emily had changed out of her white coat, dressed down, and stepped out of her office with her bag slung over her shoulder.
As she walked past the nurses‘ station, she ran into the same group of nurses taking a drink by the water cooler. They were the same ones who had been gossiping at her door earlier that
day.
They disdainfully glared at Emily when they spotted her. The one in front stumbled on purpose and shrieked, “Oh no!” The glass of iced water in her hands spilt on Emily’s pants and
shoes.
“I’m so sorry, Dr. Sterling. It was an accident.” The nurse gleefully smirked without an inch of remorse. The others covered their mouths, giggling as well.
Emily lowered her gaze, staring at the dripping water on her pants. Droplets slid off her shoes and spattered onto the floor.
On any other day, she might have let it slide. But not today.
She slowly lifted her head, her gaze cold as ice. “Is that so?” she softly asked, but her tone sent a chill down the nurses‘ backs, and the smiles on their faces froze.
Emily had always been quiet and resigned. They didn’t expect her to respond this way.
“What are you going to do?” The nurse with the empty cup stumbled back under Emily’s stare.
Emily slowly approached her with a fierce glare. “You’ve got some nerve.”
Her presence was so intimidating that the arrogant group was struck silent. Finally, one of the

nurses blurted, “We’re just telling the truth! Aren’t you ashamed of what you did?”
“Yeah! Ms. Waverly’s a kind woman. Why would you steal her boyfriend?”

Emily looked at them and burst out laughing. “Steal her boyfriend?” she repeated, as if it were the most ridiculous thing she’d ever heard. “Which one of you actually saw me do it?”
The ringleader choked on her words then lifted her chin in defiance. “We all saw it! You and Mr. Holton were in the office behind closed doors. He…” Her voice faltered under Emily’s icy
stare.
“He what?” Emily pressed.
Cornered, the nurse snapped and shouted without thinking, “Don’t get cocky! This was all Mr. Holton’s idea! He wanted to teach you a lesson and remind you of your place! So, stop getting ahead of yourself!”
Emily froze when she heard this.
So, the staged scene in his office, the filthy rumors, and even this very moment of humiliation, was all orchestrated by Gabriel.
This was his way of warning and humiliating her. He made her, his legal wife, look like a mistress that everyone would despise.
This was all a cruel joke.
The nurses were shocked by Emily’s reaction. They were only interested in gossiping. They hadn’t meant to push things this far. After all, they’d be in trouble if anything happened to Emily.
They exchanged uneasy glances, fear flickering in their eyes. “We have work to do. Bye.” With that, they scattered.
They left Emily standing there, deep in thought.
Soon, she left the hospital. The night wind hit her soaked pants, chilling her to the bone.
The parking lot was dimly lit, and she walked toward her car on instinct alone.
Suddenly, some headlights flared in the distance, and Emily raised her hand against the glare.
Out of the light, a tall, imposing figure casually leaned against a black Bentley.
It was Gabriel.
Emily had no idea how long he’d been there. A cigarette was burning between his fingers, its ember glowing faintly in the dark.
When he saw her, he put it out and approached her. He towered over her, his sharp eyes

narrowing as he did.

Emily met his eyes with an empty gaze. Her lips faintly curled as she whispered, “Gabriel, I’m done. I don’t love you anymore. Let’s get a divorce.”
