Chapter 3 Can’t Speak for Herself

I saw,Emily replied

Due to the disgraceful nature of the incident, the Holtons were displeased with it. So, the marriage between Gabriel and Emily had been kept a secret. There had been no wedding

Mallory was the only one of Emily’s friends who knew about it. The two had been close friends for over a decade and kept no secrets from each other

Damn it! Amelia is such a drama queen! She came in yesterday, underwent a series of tests, and it turned out to be nothing more than a mild cold. They took her temperature three times, and her temperature never even hit 99 degrees!”

Mallory took an angry bite of the apple. She just wants attention. I think she’s deliberately putting on a show with your husband to annoy you.”

Emily forced a stiff smile. Let’s not talk about this. Don’t let her ruin our mood.”

Oh, alright. I’ll head home and get some rest then.”

Okay.Emily then changed into her white coat and got ready for her shift

Those who managed to secure an appointment with her typically had complex and challenging conditions, and these cases required intense focus and effort

She went through more than a dozen appointments when the door opened again. Two familiar figures stepped inside. Amelia was leaning weakly against Gabriel, looking as though she might faint at any moment

Emily’s grip tightened unconsciously on the medical chart in her hand as a bitter ache spread through her chest

Crestmont had no shortage of hospitals. Yet Gabriel had brought Amelia here. Was he deliberately trying to disgust her

Amelia pressed a hand to her chest and sat down. Dr. Sterling, I have been feeling discomfort in my chest lately. Could you take a look?”

As a doctor, Emily knew better than to let personal feelings interfere with her work. She quickly composed herself and calmly asked about the symptoms

When did the discomfort start?”

It started last night, but I paid no attention to it because it wasn’t serious. Then, it became more severe this morning.”

Any trouble breathing? Dizziness?”

more severe this morning.”

Any trouble breathing? Dizziness?”

I’m breathing fine. But I get very dizzy. I can hardly stand.”

After observing Amelia’s complexion, Emily gave her diagnosis. It’s likely hypoglycemia. Have something to eat, and you should be fine.”

Dr. Sterling, I haven’t even been examined yet. How can you make a diagnosis so casually?Amelia bit her lip, looking very much wronged. Even if you have some grudge against me, you shouldn’t take my health lightly.”

Emily tapped the desk and answered sternly, As a doctor, I take every patient seriously. If you disagree with my diagnosis, you’re welcome to seek a second opinion elsewhere.”

Amelia looked as if she’d been frightened. Her eyes reddened as she turned to Gabriel beside her. Gabe, did I say something wrong? Did I upset Dr. Sterling? Please tell her that I didn’t mean it that way.”

Revulsion twisted in Emily’s stomach. What’s the matter? Can’t speak for yourself without him? This is a hospital, not a stage for your flirting. If you’re done, please leave. Don’t hold the other patients up.”

Tears spilled instantly down Amelia’s cheeks. Gabe”

Gabriel patted her back gently, his gaze cold as it landed on Emily. Is this how you treat your patients, Dr. Sterling?”

I’ve already given my diagnosis. Ms. Waverly is the one who’s trying to stir up trouble. Besides, this is the Cardiothoracic Surgery Department

Hypoglycemia isn’t even handled by this department. If you truly care about her, Mr. Holton, take her to the right doctor instead of wasting my time.”

In the two years they had known each other, Gabriel had never seen Emily like this. This was the first time he’d seen her act this guarded and sharpedged. Just last night, she had been weeping and begging beneath him, allowing him to take her in every humiliating way he desired

As Gabriel stared intently at Emily, who met his gaze unflinchingly, Amelia sensed a shift in the air. It wasn’t one in her favor. She quickly took Gabriel’s hand and softened her tone

Gabe, I trust Dr. Sterling’s expertise. If she says it’s low blood sugar, then there’s no need for

further tests

Don’t you have a business dinner to attend tonight? Let’s head back and prepare for it. I don’t want you wasting your time here because of me.”

Her voice was soft and deliberately sweet, evoking sympathy from both men and women alike. Sure enough, Gabriel’s expression softened, and he let Amelia lead him out of Emily’s consultation room by the arm

The moment the door closed, Emily’s stomach lurched. She bent over the trash bin and retched violently

Status: Ongoing

🌙 Part 1 — The Night of Exhaustion

It was 2 a.m. when Emily Sterling lay curled up on the bed, her body trembling from exhaustion. Her husband, Gabriel Holton, had just returned from a business trip after several days, and all his pent-up desire had exploded into wild intensity.
The floor was littered with used condoms — eight in total. Emily’s throat was sore from crying out, her limbs heavy like stone. When she whispered “Water,” Gabriel wordlessly helped her sit up and brought a glass to her lips.

💔 Part 2 — Beauty Beside a Stranger

Under the warm light, Emily gazed at the man she had married two years ago. Gabriel’s sharp, striking features glowed with confidence and power — the kind of man women fell for instantly. But to Emily, he was a mystery, both familiar and unreachable.
In that quiet moment, a thought bloomed in her heart: maybe it was time for them to have a baby — a child with both their blood. Maybe a baby could bring warmth to their cold marriage.

❄️ Part 3 — The Shattered Dream

Her daydream shattered when Gabriel’s deep, indifferent voice broke the silence.
“Remember to take your pills tomorrow.”
Emily froze, then forced a bitter smile. “Even with condoms, you’re still not reassured?”
Gabriel’s lips curled in mockery. “What do you think?”
His cold words stabbed through her chest, crushing what little hope remained. The tension hung heavy between them, until a sudden phone ringtone pierced the air.

📱 Part 4 — The Name That Killed the Silence

Emily glanced at the glowing phone screen — the name Amelia appeared.
Amelia Waverly. The woman everyone knew as Gabriel’s childhood sweetheart. They had grown up together, studied together, and when she returned from abroad, Gabriel personally appointed her as his secretary. Their connection was deep, their bond undeniable. Everyone whispered that Amelia was the true woman in Gabriel’s heart — not his wife.

Part 5 — A Call That Broke Her Heart

Gabriel picked up the call immediately. Amelia’s soft voice floated clearly through the quiet room:
“Gabe, I think I’m running a slight fever. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Gabriel’s voice softened, almost tender. “Sure. Rest for now. I’ll be there shortly.”
He hung up, his expression tight with concern. Emily’s fingers trembled under the blanket as she watched him hurry to dress. A wave of pain hit her.

🌧️ Part 6 — The Memory That Burned

Her mind flashed back to last year — when she had gone on a medical mission to the countryside. A disaster struck, and terrified, she had called Gabriel for help.
But instead of comforting her, he had mocked her for “overreacting,” hanging up coldly. That night, she had nearly died in fear — and he hadn’t cared.
Now, Amelia had a mild fever, and Gabriel was willing to rush out in the middle of the night. For Emily, it was clear: her husband had never loved her.

🕯️ Part 7 — The Jealous Wife

Driven by anger and pain, Emily threw off the blanket, ran to the door, and blocked Gabriel’s path. “It’s so late. Do you really have to go?”
Gabriel looked down at her, his eyes flat, unreadable. “You’re jealous?”
Emily bit her lip and nodded. “As your wife, shouldn’t I be?”
He smirked cruelly. “You’re not worthy of being jealous of Amelia.”
His words sliced through her soul. Without another glance, he turned the doorknob and walked out, slamming the door into her shoulder as he left.

🌪️ Part 8 — Left Behind in Silence

Emily stumbled backward and collapsed to the floor. The slam echoed like thunder in her mind. Moments later, she heard the roar of his car engine fading into the distance.
The room was now painfully quiet. The sheets still smelled of him, but the warmth was gone. She wrapped her arms around her knees, trembling, tears streaming endlessly.
For the first time, she admitted the truth — she had fallen into an abyss of her own making.

💧 Part 9 — A Fool’s Love

Emily realized she had always known this marriage was hollow. She had tried to fill it with love, patience, and faith, but Gabriel had only ever kept one woman in his heart — Amelia.
She was nothing but a placeholder, a name on a marriage certificate, a woman to share his bed but not his heart.
Still, she couldn’t stop the ache. Even in pain, she had loved him too deeply, hoping he might one day look at her with tenderness. That hope now turned to ashes.

🔥 Part 10 — The Final Blow

Just as her tears began to dry, her phone rang again.
It was her best friend, Mallory Prescott.
“Mills! Guess who I just saw — your husband! He’s got a woman in his arms, and they look real close. That bastard! Couldn’t he have gone to any other hospital? He came to yours! Is he trying to disgust you on purpose?”
Emily’s hand trembled as she listened. Her vision blurred with tears, not from surprise — but confirmation. Everything she had feared was real.
Gabriel hadn’t just left her alone; he had humiliated her completely.

That night, Emily Sterling realized it was truly time to leave — not just the house, but the man who had never once looked back.
