Chapter 16 Do You Hate Me That Much
Feeling anxious, Amelia hastily forced herself to cry before asking, “What are you talking about, Gabe? Are you feeling suspicious of me?”
“I thought you knew me better than anyone else. Do you not trust me anymore either?” she cried. “Forget it… I think I should just leave. I wouldn’t want to cause you any trouble.”
When she acted as if she was about to get up and go, Gabriel placed his hand on her shoulder to keep her in her seat.
She was secretly elated. She thought her usual tactics had worked again. But to her dismay, what followed was Gabriel’s cold and unfeeling voice.
“You had someone place that recording pen on my table, didn’t you?” he asked.
Amelia abruptly stopped crying. Her eyes widened in shock.
Staring at her guilty expression, he continued in an even colder tone, “You saved me in the past. So, as long as you mind your own business and refrain from stirring up trouble, I’ll give you anything you want.
“However, don’t take things too far. You won’t be able to handle the consequences if you do.”
Gabriel had never lectured her before, but he was now telling her off and threatening her because of Emily! Amelia vowed to make Emily’s life a living hell. Then, she bit her lip and suppressed the hatred and jealousy she felt for her.
Subsequently, she put on a pitiful expression once again before replying, “I understand, Gabe. I’ll behave and refrain from putting you in a difficult situation from now on.”
Not wanting to speak any further, Gabriel swiftly left the hotel.
He felt too irritated to enjoy the cooling night breeze. For some reason, he kept thinking about Emily’s pale and worn expression. Hence, he turned around and made his way to her hospital
room.
The lights in Emily’s room were already off by the time Gabriel had arrived. Under the moonlight, he found her curled up on the couch next to the bed, hugging her arms.
It didn’t seem like she was sleeping very well. Her eyebrows were furrowed even though she was asleep. Gabriel walked over and caressed her cheek with his fingers.

Emily had lost weight. Her face didn’t look as full as it did before. He let out a soft sigh before leaning over to pick her up. She was as light as a feather.
She stirred in her sleep and looked as though she was going to wake up. He gently set her down on the bed and tucked her in. However, just as he was about to straighten his body and stand upright, he felt someone tugging on his wrist.
When Emily opened her eyes, her vision was blurry, and she felt relatively dazed. But once she realized that Gabriel was standing before her, she instinctively assumed that he had come to look for trouble.
“If you’re here to teach me a lesson, you can just leave. I’m not in the mood to hear
you out.
Leaning toward her, he tilted her chin upward and forced her to look at him. Staring directly into her eyes, he asked, “Do you hate me that much?”
Despite being forced to meet his gaze, Emily didn’t look afraid at all. With a look of contempt, she spat, “Yes, I do.”
Gabriel’s expression darkened, but his lips curved up into a mocking smile.
“You seem to love being under me, though,” he said as his thumb rubbed against her skin.
She tried to slap him, but he grabbed her hand before she could do so. Afterward, he slid his free hand under the sheets.
He traced his finger along her arm and continued moving lower until his hand slipped past her waist. He glided his fingertips along the edge of her underwear before moving them around in a circular motion.
Emily immediately shivered before she started to softly gasp for air. Gabriel knew her bodily reactions all too well.
Wait. He abruptly froze before lifting up the sheets to check on her legs. Her calves were somewhat swollen, while her skin was covered in wounds.
Did she get these injuries from the day she got stuck in the rain?
He released her chin. After a pause, he turned around and walked toward the table. Then, fetched two painkillers from a bottle in his pocket before pouring out a glass of warm water.
“Take these before you go to sleep.”
Emily stared at the water and the medicine on the bedside table before she turned to look at him. What was the meaning of this? Was he trying to make up for what he’d just done?

She couldn’t help but let out a cold and emotionless laugh.
“Are you trying to get me to apologize to Amelia?” she asked. “Stop wasting your time–I’m not going to do it no matter what.”
He stared at her and didn’t say a word. Ultimately, he frowned and left the room. Staring at his retreating figure, her lips curved up into a wry smile.
Did he really think she was as passive and docile as she had been in the past?
