Chapter 13 Why Can’t You Just Be More Obedient

Emily’s lips curved up into an amused smile. Cut it out. I haven’t gotten a divorce yet.”

Upon hearing this, Mallory furiously snapped, Well, Gabriel’s still your husband, isn’t he? And yet, he’s still flaunting his side piece in front of you without a care in the world! Why are you still being loyal to him when he doesn’t even care about your wellbeing?”

Emily lowered her gaze

Gabriel Holtonthat name used to mean everything to her. Gabriel was someone she used to

love deeply, but he was also the cause of her pain and heartache

Now, it felt like the love she had for him was slowly fading away

Emily glanced up at Mallory. She looked a lot clearerheaded than she was before

You’re right, Mal. He’s not worth it,she said as she flashed her a serene smile. However, I don’t want to deal with love and relationships anymore. From now onward, I’m going to

direct all my energy into my career.”

While Emily and Mallory were cheering, they didn’t notice that a woman was recording their conversation on the other side of the door

Night had fallen, and it was now completely dark outside. Mallory had left, and Emily was the only person left in the hospital room

While she was halfasleep, she heard the door being gently pushed open. Subsequently, she

smelled the familiar scent of Gabriel’s perfume

She tilted her head to the side and dodged his kiss. Smelling the alcohol on his body, she frowned and asked, Are you drunk?”

To her dismay, he didn’t respond and continued to force himself onto her. Then, he started to kiss her in a rough and aggressive manner

He wasn’t kissing herhe was punishing her. He was letting his anger and frustration out on

her

Feeling alarmed, Emily snapped back into her senses and placed her palms on his chest in an attempt to push him away. But unfortunately, she was no match for his strength

Gabriel pinned her hands above her head with one hand while he roughly reached for her

hospital gown with the other. His actions became even more brazen once he started to remove

her clothes

Overwhelmed with despair, she kicked him and barked, What the hell are you doing, Gabriel?”

Finally, he paused. With a cold and mocking smirk on his face, he sneered, Weren’t you actively picking on Amelia to get my attention? Are you happy now that you’ve gotten what you wanted?”

Was he trying to get revenge on her because she was rude to Amelia

She felt humiliated and disgusted. Glaring venomously at him, she spat, Do you think everyone wants to get in bed with you like Amelia does?”

He stopped everything he was doing and scoffed incredulously. Go ahead and listen to your

own words.”

He took a black recording pen out of his pocket and pressed on the play button. After some static noises, Emily’s earlier conversation with Mallory was heard

Amelia is a bitch! She’s the one who came between me and Gabriel. I wish I could tear her

apart! We need to work together, Mal. We have to ruin her reputation and remove her from Gabriel’s life for good

Gabriel is a jerk. He only fell for that scheming vixen because he’s gullible and stupid!”

Emily was in shock. She never had this conversation with Mallory! The content of the audio recording was maliciously edited

After the audio had finished playing, Gabriel looked at her with contempt before saying, Drop the act, Emily. You’re just jealous of Amelia.”

Emily stared at his disgusted expression and laughed. We’ve been married for three years, Gabriel. I can’t believe you can’t even recognize my voice

Maybe you’ve always thought of me as a scheming, shameless, and evil woman

She reached over to the bedside table and grabbed her phone. Then, after tapping on her screen for a while, an identical audio recording started playing from her phone’s speakers

Amelia is a bitch! She’s the one who came between me and Gabriel. I wish I could tear her apart!”

The audio sounded exactly like the one recorded by the pen. The tone, the pitch, and the harsh bite in that voice matched the clip Gabriel had just played out loud

She was able to recreate the malicious recording just by using a random AI voice generator she

She tucked her phone away and smirked wryly, Look at everything Amelia’s done, Mr. Holton. Are you still not planning to be a responsible man and marry her

After all, she’s gone to ridiculous lengths for you. She’s even orchestrated all of this to set me up.”

Gabriel tossed the recording pen onto the bedside table. Then, he lowered his body again and placed his lips next to her ear

What if I say no?There was no way he was letting her provoke him into getting a divorce

He started kissing her again. His actions became even more unruly and aggressive. Then, he yanked her sleepwear to the side and exposed her skin to the cold air around them

With a trembling voice, she asked, Does Amelia know you’re in bed with me, Gabriel?”

Have you forgotten that we’re still married? As my wife, aren’t you supposed to satisfy my needs?he asked as he lifted a hand to caress her cheek

He held her chin and forced her to meet his gaze. With a cold and mocking look in his he said, Why can’t you just be more obedient?”

🌙 Part 1 — The Night of Exhaustion

It was 2 a.m. when Emily Sterling lay curled up on the bed, her body trembling from exhaustion. Her husband, Gabriel Holton, had just returned from a business trip after several days, and all his pent-up desire had exploded into wild intensity.
The floor was littered with used condoms — eight in total. Emily’s throat was sore from crying out, her limbs heavy like stone. When she whispered “Water,” Gabriel wordlessly helped her sit up and brought a glass to her lips.

💔 Part 2 — Beauty Beside a Stranger

Under the warm light, Emily gazed at the man she had married two years ago. Gabriel’s sharp, striking features glowed with confidence and power — the kind of man women fell for instantly. But to Emily, he was a mystery, both familiar and unreachable.
In that quiet moment, a thought bloomed in her heart: maybe it was time for them to have a baby — a child with both their blood. Maybe a baby could bring warmth to their cold marriage.

❄️ Part 3 — The Shattered Dream

Her daydream shattered when Gabriel’s deep, indifferent voice broke the silence.
“Remember to take your pills tomorrow.”
Emily froze, then forced a bitter smile. “Even with condoms, you’re still not reassured?”
Gabriel’s lips curled in mockery. “What do you think?”
His cold words stabbed through her chest, crushing what little hope remained. The tension hung heavy between them, until a sudden phone ringtone pierced the air.

📱 Part 4 — The Name That Killed the Silence

Emily glanced at the glowing phone screen — the name Amelia appeared.
Amelia Waverly. The woman everyone knew as Gabriel’s childhood sweetheart. They had grown up together, studied together, and when she returned from abroad, Gabriel personally appointed her as his secretary. Their connection was deep, their bond undeniable. Everyone whispered that Amelia was the true woman in Gabriel’s heart — not his wife.

Part 5 — A Call That Broke Her Heart

Gabriel picked up the call immediately. Amelia’s soft voice floated clearly through the quiet room:
“Gabe, I think I’m running a slight fever. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Gabriel’s voice softened, almost tender. “Sure. Rest for now. I’ll be there shortly.”
He hung up, his expression tight with concern. Emily’s fingers trembled under the blanket as she watched him hurry to dress. A wave of pain hit her.

🌧️ Part 6 — The Memory That Burned

Her mind flashed back to last year — when she had gone on a medical mission to the countryside. A disaster struck, and terrified, she had called Gabriel for help.
But instead of comforting her, he had mocked her for “overreacting,” hanging up coldly. That night, she had nearly died in fear — and he hadn’t cared.
Now, Amelia had a mild fever, and Gabriel was willing to rush out in the middle of the night. For Emily, it was clear: her husband had never loved her.

🕯️ Part 7 — The Jealous Wife

Driven by anger and pain, Emily threw off the blanket, ran to the door, and blocked Gabriel’s path. “It’s so late. Do you really have to go?”
Gabriel looked down at her, his eyes flat, unreadable. “You’re jealous?”
Emily bit her lip and nodded. “As your wife, shouldn’t I be?”
He smirked cruelly. “You’re not worthy of being jealous of Amelia.”
His words sliced through her soul. Without another glance, he turned the doorknob and walked out, slamming the door into her shoulder as he left.

🌪️ Part 8 — Left Behind in Silence

Emily stumbled backward and collapsed to the floor. The slam echoed like thunder in her mind. Moments later, she heard the roar of his car engine fading into the distance.
The room was now painfully quiet. The sheets still smelled of him, but the warmth was gone. She wrapped her arms around her knees, trembling, tears streaming endlessly.
For the first time, she admitted the truth — she had fallen into an abyss of her own making.

💧 Part 9 — A Fool’s Love

Emily realized she had always known this marriage was hollow. She had tried to fill it with love, patience, and faith, but Gabriel had only ever kept one woman in his heart — Amelia.
She was nothing but a placeholder, a name on a marriage certificate, a woman to share his bed but not his heart.
Still, she couldn’t stop the ache. Even in pain, she had loved him too deeply, hoping he might one day look at her with tenderness. That hope now turned to ashes.

🔥 Part 10 — The Final Blow

Just as her tears began to dry, her phone rang again.
It was her best friend, Mallory Prescott.
“Mills! Guess who I just saw — your husband! He’s got a woman in his arms, and they look real close. That bastard! Couldn’t he have gone to any other hospital? He came to yours! Is he trying to disgust you on purpose?”
Emily’s hand trembled as she listened. Her vision blurred with tears, not from surprise — but confirmation. Everything she had feared was real.
Gabriel hadn’t just left her alone; he had humiliated her completely.

That night, Emily Sterling realized it was truly time to leave — not just the house, but the man who had never once looked back.
