Chapter 10 Find Dr. Sterling Immediately

Emily was feeling uncomfortable from the lack of oxygen, and she wasn’t in the mood to quarrel with Roman. Just as she was about to speak up and lend one out, a tall and stern figure unexpectedly appeared at the bus door

Gabriel stood there expressionlessly, his gaze as sharp as a falcon’s. He instantly zeroed in on the oxygen tank Mallory was handing to Emily. In a few long strides, he walked over and took

it without a word

Emily didn’t even see his movements clearly. She only felt her wrist tighten, then her hands closed around nothing. In one decisive move, he had snatched the oxygen tank from her hands

Emily’s fingers were still kept in that slightly curled position, the icy sensation from brushing the back of his hand lingering on her fingertips. Her heart also gradually cooled

From the start, Gabriel didn’t even spare her a word or a glance. He took the oxygen tank and

turned to leave

Mallory was so enraged that her body trembled, and she pointed at his back to curse, Can’t you see that Mills is lacking oxygen? Are you-”

Emily lightly pressed her hand down, cutting off what she was about to say. Help me get another oxygen

tank. I can’t hold on any longer”

Gabriel didn’t care about Emily’s wellbeing, but Mallory did. She quickly went to get Emily another oxygen tank

Emily only felt much better after inhaling some oxygen. She gazed sorrowfully out the bus window, where Gabriel was rushing away. There was no use saying anything to someone who

didn’t care about her

The other bus passengers exchanged glances

It seemed to them that Gabriel had gone overboard, but this was their biggest sponsor. What else could they say about it

The team arrived at their destination the next day, and the medical mission officially started. Emily deliberately chose a medical station much farther away to avoid Gabriel and Amelia

The weather in the highland was unpredictable. It was still clear skies in the morning, but the weather suddenly changed at noon, with the rain battering down on them

Gabriel glanced at the downpour, his brows drawing together

Emily’s medical station was located in the most isolated spot and also had the crudest conditions. Would it get dangerous with such a rainstorm? His gaze searched through the rain, carrying a deep sense of worry that even he was unaware of

Amelia could tell that he was anxious at a glance. She was afraid that Gabriel would go looking for Emily, so she hurriedly walked over, lightly tugging his sleeve. Gabe, I don’t feel so good. My head’s dizzy. I think I have a fever”

She swayed slightly, leaning against Gabriel and asking, Why don’t we return first?”

Gabriel withdrew his gaze from where he was looking, glancing at Amelia’s pale face. He told

her, I’ll have Roman go with you.”

Amelia bit her lip, looking aggrieved. Her eyes welled up with tears. Gabe, I want to stay by your side. If you don’t leave, I won’t either.”

She turned, covering her mouth with a handkerchief, and started letting out a series of coughs. Then, she turned back to him and forced out a smile

I’ll be fine. I’ve gotten much better, so I can bear with it

Gabriel ignored what she said, but seeing how she was on the verge of collapse, he gave up on searching for Emily personally. He summoned one of the staff members nearby. Send someone to find Dr. Sterling at once! You must find her and ensure her safety!”

With that, he supported Amelia to head back, saying, I’ll send you.”

…

The heavy downpour showed no signs of ceasing. The station Emily had chosen was lowlying and prone to collecting rain. A muddy stream accumulated at her ankles in no time at all

Worse, there were faint roars of thunder coming from the distant hillside, mixed with the snapping of broken tree branches

A mudslide! Recalling the alarming natural disaster they had encountered during last year’s medical mission, Emily and Mallory’s expressions changed

They tried to leave, but their only road back was already blocked. They were trapped

Emily immediately pulled out her phone, but there was no signal at the moment. Mallory also took out her phone, but the result was the same

Damn it!Mallory cursed

Time gradually passed, but the rain continued unabated, and the temperature dropped sharply

They found a relatively safe place to take shelter, but neither of them knew when the mudslide might sweep through

Emily was already prone to getting cold, and at this moment, the humidity and cold air were chilling her to the bone. She couldn’t help but tremble uncontrollably

Mallory noticed her unusual state and immediately pulled her into her arms. Mills, are you

cold?”

She used her body heat to try warming Emily up and hissed, Gabriel, that bastard! Hasn’t he noticed after so long that you’ve gone missing?”

Emily leaned into Mallory’s embrace, mustering a weak and selfdeprecating smile

It’s alright. Either way, I’ve never counted on him coming to save us… Hopefully, a few doctors will notice we haven’t returned and come searching for us.”

With that, Emily’s awareness gradually dimmed, her eyelids becoming heavier. Mallory frantically called her name, but she could no longer hear it clearly

Just as Emily was about to completely lose consciousness, a tall figure burst through the rain and ran in their direction

Through her blurry vision, she could only make out the silhouette of a man

Before Emily fully succumbed to the darkness, one thought flashed through her mind. Who was it? Was it Gabriel

Then, the endless darkness consumed her entirely

🌙 Part 1 — The Night of Exhaustion

It was 2 a.m. when Emily Sterling lay curled up on the bed, her body trembling from exhaustion. Her husband, Gabriel Holton, had just returned from a business trip after several days, and all his pent-up desire had exploded into wild intensity.
The floor was littered with used condoms — eight in total. Emily’s throat was sore from crying out, her limbs heavy like stone. When she whispered “Water,” Gabriel wordlessly helped her sit up and brought a glass to her lips.

💔 Part 2 — Beauty Beside a Stranger

Under the warm light, Emily gazed at the man she had married two years ago. Gabriel’s sharp, striking features glowed with confidence and power — the kind of man women fell for instantly. But to Emily, he was a mystery, both familiar and unreachable.
In that quiet moment, a thought bloomed in her heart: maybe it was time for them to have a baby — a child with both their blood. Maybe a baby could bring warmth to their cold marriage.

❄️ Part 3 — The Shattered Dream

Her daydream shattered when Gabriel’s deep, indifferent voice broke the silence.
“Remember to take your pills tomorrow.”
Emily froze, then forced a bitter smile. “Even with condoms, you’re still not reassured?”
Gabriel’s lips curled in mockery. “What do you think?”
His cold words stabbed through her chest, crushing what little hope remained. The tension hung heavy between them, until a sudden phone ringtone pierced the air.

📱 Part 4 — The Name That Killed the Silence

Emily glanced at the glowing phone screen — the name Amelia appeared.
Amelia Waverly. The woman everyone knew as Gabriel’s childhood sweetheart. They had grown up together, studied together, and when she returned from abroad, Gabriel personally appointed her as his secretary. Their connection was deep, their bond undeniable. Everyone whispered that Amelia was the true woman in Gabriel’s heart — not his wife.

Part 5 — A Call That Broke Her Heart

Gabriel picked up the call immediately. Amelia’s soft voice floated clearly through the quiet room:
“Gabe, I think I’m running a slight fever. Can you take me to the hospital?”
Gabriel’s voice softened, almost tender. “Sure. Rest for now. I’ll be there shortly.”
He hung up, his expression tight with concern. Emily’s fingers trembled under the blanket as she watched him hurry to dress. A wave of pain hit her.

🌧️ Part 6 — The Memory That Burned

Her mind flashed back to last year — when she had gone on a medical mission to the countryside. A disaster struck, and terrified, she had called Gabriel for help.
But instead of comforting her, he had mocked her for “overreacting,” hanging up coldly. That night, she had nearly died in fear — and he hadn’t cared.
Now, Amelia had a mild fever, and Gabriel was willing to rush out in the middle of the night. For Emily, it was clear: her husband had never loved her.

🕯️ Part 7 — The Jealous Wife

Driven by anger and pain, Emily threw off the blanket, ran to the door, and blocked Gabriel’s path. “It’s so late. Do you really have to go?”
Gabriel looked down at her, his eyes flat, unreadable. “You’re jealous?”
Emily bit her lip and nodded. “As your wife, shouldn’t I be?”
He smirked cruelly. “You’re not worthy of being jealous of Amelia.”
His words sliced through her soul. Without another glance, he turned the doorknob and walked out, slamming the door into her shoulder as he left.

🌪️ Part 8 — Left Behind in Silence

Emily stumbled backward and collapsed to the floor. The slam echoed like thunder in her mind. Moments later, she heard the roar of his car engine fading into the distance.
The room was now painfully quiet. The sheets still smelled of him, but the warmth was gone. She wrapped her arms around her knees, trembling, tears streaming endlessly.
For the first time, she admitted the truth — she had fallen into an abyss of her own making.

💧 Part 9 — A Fool’s Love

Emily realized she had always known this marriage was hollow. She had tried to fill it with love, patience, and faith, but Gabriel had only ever kept one woman in his heart — Amelia.
She was nothing but a placeholder, a name on a marriage certificate, a woman to share his bed but not his heart.
Still, she couldn’t stop the ache. Even in pain, she had loved him too deeply, hoping he might one day look at her with tenderness. That hope now turned to ashes.

🔥 Part 10 — The Final Blow

Just as her tears began to dry, her phone rang again.
It was her best friend, Mallory Prescott.
“Mills! Guess who I just saw — your husband! He’s got a woman in his arms, and they look real close. That bastard! Couldn’t he have gone to any other hospital? He came to yours! Is he trying to disgust you on purpose?”
Emily’s hand trembled as she listened. Her vision blurred with tears, not from surprise — but confirmation. Everything she had feared was real.
Gabriel hadn’t just left her alone; he had humiliated her completely.

That night, Emily Sterling realized it was truly time to leave — not just the house, but the man who had never once looked back.
