Charlotte’s POV: 

I understood from Alexander’s silence, reading the answer in his eyes. 

“I understand,” I said quietly. I lowered my head, dejected, imagining the woman who had once left Alexander. 

In Alexander’s office, I ate lunch absentmindedly, my thoughts drifting. I could feel his gaze lingering on my face, carrying 

a trace of concern. 

“What are you thinking about?” he asked gently. 

I looked up, meeting his deep eyes, and answered with hesitation: “I’m afraid you won’t like it if I tell you.” 

To my surprise, Alexander didn’t press further. He simply nodded slightly, showing respect for my choice. 

After lunch, I noticed a flash of fatigue in Alexander’s eyes, and only then did I remember that last night he had not only stayed up comforting my stomach pain, but also came to the office early this morning. Seeing the faint darkness under his eyes, my heart ached. 

“Go get some sleep,” I said, and when he didn’t respond, my tone became firm, “Not later, now!” 

I grabbed him by the waist, forcefully pulling him toward the rest area. Faced with my sudden assertiveness, Alexander laughed softly and conceded, “Alright, alright, I’ll join you for a nap.” 

I spent the entire day with Alexander at the company. 

The next morning, I took Jason’s car to school. As soon as we got out, I felt strange glances from all around, and some 

people even took out their phones to photograph Jason and me. 

“What’s going on?” I asked Jason in a low voice, his expression equally confused. 

Just then, Lily called, her voice urgent: “Charlotte, Jason, get back in the car and check the forum! Some bastard is 

targeting Charlotte again, smearing her in secret.” 

Jason and I quickly returned to the car and opened the school forum. A series of shocking posts greeted us: 

“Shocking! Campus beauty kept by Silicon Valley tycoon.” 

“California university beauty secretly meets sugar daddy at roadside diner.” 

“Exclusive: Campus beauty’s romantic affairs, episode one.” 

The posts contained photos of me helping Richard into the car yesterday, and scenes of us eating at the small restaurant. There was even a video recording the moment Richard and I shared food and laughed together. 

One insulting comment after another about me, one malicious speculation after another about Richard–it made me clench my fists in rage. 

Jason scrolled down the page and clicked on the poster’s profile: “Newly registered account,” he said grimly. “We can’t go to school today. Let’s go home first.” 

Chapter 38 

“No,” I shook my head. “Going home would only confirm the rumors in the eyes of our classmates.” I said through gritted teeth: “When I find out who did this, I’ll crush them to dust.” 

“I’ll contact my uncle.” Jason took out his phone, ready to call Alexander. 

“Don’t always call your uncle whenever there’s trouble. We’re not here to cause him problems.” I stopped him. 

Jason considered for a moment: “Why don’t you just announce that the man yesterday was your father?” 

I analyzed calmly: “At Richard’s age, people would believe he’s my grandfather. Who would believe he’s my father? Who would believe I’m married and he’s my father–in–law? And who would believe my husband is Alexander Kingsley? No one would believe any of it!” 

While we were still discussing, Lily arrived, dropped off by her brother. “Charlotte, are you okay? What do we do now?” Lily asked anxiously. 

Looking at their worried expressions, I felt remarkably calm: “This little issue isn’t worth getting upset over.” 

“Little issue?” Jason looked at me in disbelief. “This is the biggest scandal at school right now!” 

“Does this make you lose any flesh?” I asked. 

Jason shook his head. 

“Does it make you lose any money?” 

Jason shook his head again. 

“Does it threaten your personal safety?” 

Jason continued shaking his head. 

“Does it cause social unrest?” 

Jason finally conceded: “Fine, I admit it’s a small matter.” 

“Exactly,” I nodded. “Now let’s go to class.” 

When we walked into the classroom, all discussions suddenly stopped. More than forty pairs of eyes turned toward the three of us, and an eerie silence filled the air.
