Chapter96

Glancing at him, Harriet asked, “Ellsworth, with the stock. dropping so much, are you upset?”

At Harriet’s question, Ellsworth smiled and said, “It’s alright, I

can handle it.”

Usually, Ellsworth seemed carefree, as if nothing ever bothered him, but in truth, he just didn’t express himself much.

That’s just how men are.

No matter how big the problem, they remained calm.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t expect things to get this serious.” Harriet

finally managed to say the apology.

Ellsworth just smiled again. “Apology accepted.”

Ellsworth’s brightness-he said he accepted her apology, and for

a moment, Harriet didn’t know what else to say as she looked at

him.

As a result, she was so focused on Ellsworth that she didn’t

watch her step. Suddenly, her right foot tripped, and she

stumbled forward, but Ellsworth reacted quickly, pulling his left

hand out of his pocket to catch her in time.

Once Ellsworth had helped her steady herself, Harriet said

awkwardly, “Thank you.”

Ellsworth, calm as ever, put his left hand back in his pocket and

reminded her, “Watch your step.”

“Mm.” She agreed, and the two of them continued walking

toward the gate.

The Townsend’s mansion’s yard was enormous.

So big that even after several minutes, they still hadn’t reached

the gate.

At this moment, Harriet said softly, “I thought you’d be really

upset today.”

To be honest, when she saw the stock hit its limit down that

afternoon, she was already numb.

She had already braced herself for a storm.

But Ellsworth wasn’t angry at all-not a single word of blame. There really aren’t many men who could do that.

Hearing Harriet’s words, Ellsworth said, “This doesn’t have much to do with you. You just did what you wanted to do.”

After Ellsworth finished, Harriet said, “Ellsworth, stop. Don’t comfort me anymore.”

Although she’d always wanted to resign, she was the one who agreed to join the company in the first place, and the one who agreed to be vice president.

Back then, she never imagined she and Ellsworth would end up

like this.

Harriet’s reaction made Ellsworth laugh.

He looked down at her, teasing, “If you really feel that bad, when

we get home, let’s make a baby. Show me some love-that’ll be

comfort enough for me.”

At Ellsworth’s teasing, Harriet said disdainfully, “You’re so

improper.”

Still holding Harriet’s hand, Ellsworth walked unhurriedly, with a

hint of laziness in his voice as he drawled, “Harriet, I’m only

twenty-six, in my prime. You fall asleep the moment you hit the

bed every night-it’s a bit cruel to me, you know.”

Chapter96

That… actually made some sense.

She turned to glance at Ellsworth, seeing his relaxed face and good mood.

Harriet looked at the flowers and plants beside her and fell

silent.

So be it-let it be cruel. She had endured three years of it herself.

When Harriet stopped talking and looked away, Ellsworth let go of her hand, draped his arm over her shoulder, pinched her chin, and said, “Say something.”

After speaking, he gently, flirtatiously cupped her neck.

When his hand started to wander along her collarbone, even

trying to go lower, Harriet grabbed him and sternly reminded,

“Ellsworth, stop it. There are security cameras in the yard.”

Seeing Harriet’s serious expression, Ellsworth couldn’t help but

laugh.

He leaned down, almost pressing against her ear, and

whispered ambiguously, “There are no cameras in the

bedroom.”

Chapter96

Her ear tingled from his breath. Harriet scratched her ear and pushed his hand away. “Aren’t you annoying?”

Harriet was embarrassed, and Ellsworth’s smile grew even wider, which reminded him of their school days.

He remembered once when Harriet came to the Townsend’s

mansion to hang out. He asked her to help with his homework,

and while she was writing seriously, he complimented her, saying he found her quite pretty.

In that instant, Harriet’s face turned red, her ears turned red, her

neck turned red-her whole body blushed.

Thinking of the past, Ellsworth naturally took Harriet’s hand

again, the same one she had just pushed away.

She glanced up at Ellsworth, saw him smiling for no apparent

reason, and Harriet couldn’t help but smile too. This time, she

didn’t pull her hand away.

For the first time in three years, they were this harmonious-and

it was right after such a big incident.

Soon after, the two of them left the yard, and Ellsworth drove

Harriet home.

On the way back, Noel called Ellsworth to report on the stock

situation.

Ellsworth listened calmly, while Harriet quietly kept him.

company.

When they got home, Ellsworth still had work to do, so Harriet

took her clothes and went to the bathroom to shower.

When she came out after her shower, Ellsworth was still busy at his desk, and his phone by the mouse kept ringing.
