Sitting on the schoolyard wall, she finally jumped down, and 

Ellsworth caught her. 

Later, though, he didn’t catch Kat. 

That time, Kat twisted her ankle and had to stay home for half a month before going out again. 

There were quite a few memories like that, but after they got married, things changed, so those memories felt as if they belonged to a previous life. 

Thinking of this, Harriet couldn’t help but smile. 

Beside her, Ellsworth looked at her expressionlessly and asked lightly, “Is it so funny that I didn’t go to the meeting or the 

interview?” 

“No.” Harriet looked up, put away her smile, and said to him, “I just remembered some things from before.”

Ellsworth looked at her, his eyes lowering, then he turned his

Harriet’s mother passed away early, and her father left later as 

well. 

Sir Townsend took care of her-actually, all three siblings did. 

They never treated her as an outsider. 

He just hadn’t expected her to be even more pragmatic than 

others, with little sincerity. 

Without looking at Harriet again, Ellsworth got up and walked to 

the floor-to-ceiling window, both hands in his pockets. 

Seeing this, Harriet glanced at him, thinking she must have said 

something wrong. 

So she didn’t say anything more and ate in silence. 

By the window, Ellsworth took out a cigarette and a lighter from 

his pocket, but remembering that Harriet had a cold, he tossed 

both onto the cabinet nearby. 

Just as he put the cigarette and lighter aside, his phone rang. 

He took out his phone-it was a call from Kelsey. 

He answered the call quickly.

“Yes, I’ll come over. Don’t panic.” 

“Okay, wait for me.” 

After hanging up with Kelsey, Ellsworth turned around, picked 

up his suit jacket draped over the sofa, put it on quickly, and 

looked at Harriet with an unreadable expression. “I’m going out 

for a bit. Rest after you finish eating.” 

Harriet held her fork, looking at him. “Okay, I know.” 

She had heard that the call just now was from Kelsey. 

Afterward, hearing the sound of Ellsworth closing the door, 

Harriet looked up toward the entrance. 

Her gaze lingered there for a moment before she came back to 

herself. 

She continued eating. 

When Kelsey hadn’t returned, there were plenty of women around Ellsworth. There were even several times when some bold ones came to her, asking her to step aside. 

After Kelsey came back, things quieted down around Ellsworth, and she herself became much quieter too. 

She figured that after this exchange meeting ended and 

Ellsworth finished signing off on a few projects, they would go through the formalities. 

Thinking of this, Harriet picked up some greens and put them in 

her mouth. 

After eating, Harriet tidied up the desk and turned on her 

computer to work. 

Maybe because she had just taken her medicine, she felt much 

better than she had at noon. 

After organizing the meeting materials and updating her 

resignation letter, Harriet searched online for the recent 

developments of Galaxy Innovations and read some 

professional articles. 

As dusk gradually fell, Ellsworth still hadn’t returned. 

Just as Harriet was absorbed in her work, there was a sudden 

knock at the door. 

Without looking up, Harriet said directly, “Come in.” 

After she spoke, the door didn’t open, and the knocking 

sounded again. 

Looking up, she realized she was in a hotel, not her office. 

Putting down the mouse, Harriet quickly got up to open the 

door, thinking it was Jolene. But when she opened it, Reginald was standing outside. 

Harriet was startled. “Mr. Barton!” 

Standing at the door, Reginald said, “I heard from your assistant 

that you were sick, so I came to check on you.” 

As he spoke, Reginald handed the bag he was carrying to 

Harriet. 

Harriet reached out to take it. Inside the transparent plastic bag were two mangoes bigger than her face and two coconuts. 

Besides those two fruits, there were also two professional 

books. 

“Thank you, Mr. Barton.” Harriet was amused by the get-well 

gifts. 

She finally understood why Reginald was still single at his age- 

he was a true engineer at heart. 

After Harriet took the fruit, Reginald asked, “Have you eaten? 

Did you get any medicine?” 

Harriet smiled and said, “I’ve eaten, and I have medicine too.” 

Then, Harriet politely asked, “Mr. Barton, would you like to come 

in and sit for a while?” 

Reginald put both hands back in his pockets and said bluntly, 

“No, I won’t sit. If I catch your cold, I still have to work.” 

Harriet was momentarily stunned, then quickly laughed. “Of 

course, of course, Mr. Barton’s work is important. You can’t afford to get sick. I’ll go back inside, so I don’t infect you.” 

She was just being polite, but Reginald was even more 

straightforward.
