Chapter59

“Mr. Townsend, Mr. Garrett.”

“Mr. Townsend, Mr. Garrett.”

Everyone greeted Ellsworth and the middle-aged man warmly, but naturally ignored Harriet.

Seeing the fickleness of people, Harriet sensibly kept her distance, not disturbing Ellsworth, nor using him to meet more people like Kelsey did.

Just as she was about to turn and leave, someone suddenly grabbed the back of her neck.

Harriet quickly turned to look, only to see Ellsworth smiling warmly as he chatted with several elders, but his right hand quietly pressed on the back of her neck, unobtrusively holding her in place.

It was as if the person doing this was not the same man.

Looking at Ellsworth, Harriet tried to remove his hand, but Ellsworth let go of her neck and naturally took her hand, pulling

her to stand beside him.

Harriet looked up at him, wanting to pull her hand back, but

Ellsworth held on too tightly.

She couldn’t break free.

But as she looked away from his face, she saw Reginald

passing by the crowd, entering the restaurant alone.

Harriet immediately understood.

So, that was his little scheme.

But Reginald hadn’t noticed them at all, hadn’t even seen her,

and Ellsworth was definitely overthinking things.

In fact, Ellsworth hadn’t seen Reginald; he only saw Harriet

turning to leave and simply wanted to keep her there.

Not far away, Kelsey was walking over, having witnessed

Ellsworth’s actions just now.

For a moment, the smile on her face faltered, becoming a bit

forced.

Even though she knew Ellsworth was just putting on a show,

she still felt a little hurt.

Even so, she quickly composed herself and greeted them with a

smile

“Ells, Hara.”

“Kelsey.”

After exchanging brief greetings, Kelsey smiled and started chatting with Harriet about work. She said, “Hara, you know Reginald from Galaxy Innovations, right? I heard their company has been working on wireless power technology these past two years, Rushtar Group is quite interested in this field and has been doing some research as well.”

“So, Hara, do you think you could introduce us, help us get to

know each other?”

Rushtar Group was Kelsey’s family business, with the Graham family holding 53% of the shares and the remaining 47% owned by minor and individual shareholders, so the Graham family

basically called the shots.

Previously, Kelsey’s father had tried to arrange several

meetings with Reginald to discuss potential cooperation.

Reginald had refused.

So now, seeing that Harriet had spent the whole day with

Chapter 50

Reginald yesterday, Kelsey thought she could help make an

introduction.

Hearing Kelsey’s request, Harriet smiled and replied, “Kelsey, I

only met Mr. Barton yesterday. We don’t really know each other,

so I’m afraid I can’t help with an introduction.”

“But from what Mr. Barton said, he’s here at the conference

mainly to discuss cooperation with everyone. Kelsey, you can

go introduce yourself. Mr. Barton should be willing to talk and

hear your ideas.”

Harriet’s polite response made Kelsey’s expression shift

slightly, but she still smiled and said, “Alright, I’ll find a chance

to say hello to Mr. Barton. Thanks, Hara.”

Harriet gave a gentle smile. “You’re welcome.”

Though she said ‘you’re welcome,’ in her heart she remained

polite and distant.

Soon after, when everyone finished breakfast and went to the

meeting, Ellsworth placed Harriet’s seat card next to his, having

her sit beside him.

With Harriet sitting there, Kelsey had no choice but to take a

seat in the second row.

However, every time she glanced at Ellsworth and Harriet, there

was an unmistakable trace of sadness in her eyes.

The girl sitting next to Kelsey seemed to notice her

disappointment and leaned in to whisper, “Kel, Mr. Townsend

has an interview today. It’s all just for show, for the reporters to

take pictures.”

Kelsey withdrew her gaze and smiled faintly. “I know.”

She knew, but she still felt jealous inside.

That seat was supposed to be hers.

***

Not far away, Reginald had originally wanted to sit with Harriet,

but seeing her accompany Ellsworth to the front, he decided not

to disturb them.

By the time the meeting ended at noon, Harriet’s head was

spinning, her body weak, and even keeping her eyes open felt

exhausting.

So, while Ellsworth was pulled aside for a conversation, she

returned to her room alone.

Chapa.

Once inside, she took off her high heels and collapsed weakly

onto the bed, when her phone suddenly rang

After lying there for a while, Harriet answered the call without

even checking the number, forcing herself to sound alert.

“Hello?”

On the other end, Ellsworth’s voice came through coolly: “Where

did you go?”

Hearing it was Ellsworth, Harriet let out a sigh of relief and

replied lazily, “I’ve caught a cold.”

She added, “I’m back in the room resting. You go ahead with

your work, don’t worry about me.”
