Chapter49
Chapter49
“Ellsworth, we’ll take that as a yes. Let’s try to have the wedding
by the end of the year!”
Holding her room card, Harriet silently watched from a distance
as Ellsworth and Kelsey looked so happy and well-matched.
Beside Harriet, Jolene glanced at the crowd, then at Harriet.
Seeing Harriet staring intently in that direction, Jolene looked at
her just as intently, feeling a surge of sympathy.
After watching Harriet for a while, seeing that she was still
gazing over there, Jolene softly called, “Ms. Chavez.”
At the sound of Jolene’s voice, Harriet snapped back to reality,
quickly turned her head, and forced a smile at Jolene. “The
room card, which room am I in again?”
Though she was smiling, her flustered manner still betrayed
her.
Jolene felt even more sympathy for Harriet after seeing her
reaction.
Chapter49
Glancing at the room card in Harriet’s hand, Jolene gently
reminded her, “Ms. Chavez, we already have our room cards.”
Hearing this, Harriet looked down at her right hand and saw that
the room card was already there.
For a moment, Harriet felt awkward.
With her right hand holding the room card, Harriet lightly
stroked it and said with a smile, “Look at my memory-I’m really
getting forgetful.”
Still smiling, Harriet deliberately avoided looking at the crowd,
pretending as if nothing had happened.
After three years of marriage, this was nothing new.
The more Harriet acted nonchalant and smiled, the more
sympathetic Jolene’s gaze became.
After that, the two of them didn’t head toward the crowd, but
instead went to the elevators on the left.
Back in the crowd, as Harriet and Jolene turned to leave,
Ellsworth suddenly looked back.
Watching that slender figure in the distance, Ellsworth suddenly

felt distracted.
That figure looked… somewhat familiar.
“Ells.”
It wasn’t until Kelsey tugged his arm and called his name that
Ellsworth snapped back to reality, quickly withdrawing his gaze
and looking back at the group.
At that moment, Kelsey looked up at him and said, “Ells,
everyone wants to find a place to sit and chat. What do you
think?”
Ellsworth replied expressionlessly, “Sure.”
However, as everyone left the hotel together, Ellsworth couldn’t
help but glance back at the front desk.
Harriet should have arrived at the resort by now.

Meanwhile, in the elevator lobby.
Jolene pressed the elevator button, and while waiting with
Harriet, she couldn’t help but glance at her again.
Seeing Harriet so calm and composed, seemingly unaffected.
by what had just happened, as if she hadn’t heard any of those
words, Jolene couldn’t tell if her emotions were real or fake.
Even if the other party was Ellsworth the man every young
woman fought to marry she herself couldn’t stand such
humiliation.
It’s been three years. Ms. Chavez had cleaned up after him
countless times, had been laughed at by others countless
times, yet Mr. Townsend never felt sorry for her.
Even if there was no love, they were still husband and wife, and
Ms. Chavez had done so much for him and the company.
Couldn’t Mr. Townsend give Ms. Chavez a little dignity? Couldn’t
he make things a little less humiliating for her?
Thinking of this, Jolene called out in a choked voice, “Ms.
Chavez.”
Harriet was lost in thought, but when she heard Jolene call her,
she quickly snapped back and turned to look at her.
Seeing Jolene’s face full of grievance, on the verge of tears,
Harriet couldn’t help but laugh.
Chapter49
She knew what Jolene was thinking, so she smiled and said,
“I’m fine.”
Harriet’s reassurance only made Jolene feel more aggrieved on
her behalf.
At that moment, the elevator doors opened, and Harriet smiled.
as she reminded, “The elevator’s here, let’s go.”
Jolene finally returned to her usual professional demeanor.
“Yes, Ms. Chavez.”
The two of them got into the elevator, with Jolene standing
slightly behind Harriet, watching her the whole time.
After watching Harriet for a while, Jolene asked, “Ms. Chavez,
why do you always put up with it? Why don’t you do something
about Mr. Townsend?”
At Jolene’s question, Harriet looked at her and smiled, “If
someone doesn’t care about you, confronting them will only
make things worse. You can’t force feelings.”
It had taken her three years to figure that out.
After a pause, Harriet continued, “A person’s tolerance and
patience are limited. When you can’t bear it anymore, you

simply won’t.”
Seeing Harriet’s calmness, Jolene said, “Ms. Chavez, you’re so wonderful. Mr. Townsend will definitely regret this one day.”
Harriet just smiled and said nothing.
Soon, the elevator doors opened.
Jolene got off first; her room was on the floor below Harriet’s.
Watching Jolene leave and the elevator doors slowly close, Harriet just curled her lips into a gentle smile.
Confront him?
That’s a privilege reserved for the beloved. It’s Kelsey’s
privilege, not hers.
