Chapter48

Then, the main light was switched on, flooding the room with

brightness.

Ellsworth glanced at Harriet on the bed, then unbuttoned his

shirt, grabbed a change of clothes from the wardrobe, and went

into the bathroom.

A moment passed.

After showering, Ellsworth came out of the bathroom to find

Harriet had rolled over and was occupying his usual side of the

bed.

Used to sleeping on the right, Ellsworth dried his hair, tossed

the towel aside, walked over, and bent down to pick Harriet up.

He held her gently, and put her down just as gently.

Even so, Harriet was startled awake,

She opened her eyes, but the light was too harsh, so she quickly

closed them again.

Her brows furrowed tightly.

Chapter 48

After a while, she opened her eyes to a narrow slit and saw

Ellsworth right in front of her. Half asleep, Harriet smiled at him

and said, “You’re back.”

She had thought that with Patsy gone, Ellsworth wouldn’t come

back anymore.

Seeing Harriet’s sleepy smile, Ellsworth felt an unexpected

warmth.

He didn’t get up right away. Instead, he bent over and looked at

Harriet, responding softly, “Mm.”

The light was glaring.

Harriet didn’t fully open her eyes. Drowsily, she looked at

Ellsworth and said lazily, “I’m sleepy. I’m going to bed now.

Ellsworth, good night.”

As soon as Harriet finished speaking, Ellsworth smiled and

replied gently, “Good night.”

After that, he reached up to turn off the main light in the room

and returned to his own side of the bed.

For the next two days, although Ellsworth came home late, at

least he was home every night.

Chapter 48

But whether he came home or not didn’t seem to matter much

anymore.

She went about her work as usual, had dinner with her

grandfather at the Chavez’s mansion as usual, and after

finishing everything, Harriet would study her field at night,

preparing for a new job.

By Tuesday at noon, the day before the business exchange,

Jolene had arranged all the travel plans, and Harriet set off for

the resort with Jolene.

In the days leading up to the conference, Harriet saw Ellsworth

a few times, but he never asked about the meeting or

suggested they go together.

So Harriet didn’t bring it up either.

Kathie didn’t go this time; she stayed home with Kenneth.

At four in the afternoon, their flight arrived on time. Harriet and

Jolene took a business car to the hotel, and as they were

picking up their room cards at the front desk, they saw a lively

group chatting in the hotel lobby to the right.

The hotel was very quiet, so the group’s excitement was

particularly noticeable.

Chapter49

Taking the room card from the front desk staff, Harriet listened

to the laughter and chatter from that direction and instinctively

turned to look.

“Kelsey, you came back so low-key this time. Except for Mr.

Townsend, you won’t see anyone, and no one can get an

appointment with you.”

“Kelsey, it’s been years, and you just keep getting prettier and

more elegant.”

“Kel, this time you and Ells will finally make it official, right? We

hope to drink at your wedding soon.”

“Kel, now that you’re back, don’t leave again. Your dad’s

company needs your help too.”

In the crowd, Kelsey was the center of attention, surrounded by

men and women who greeted her warmly, welcomed her, and offered blessings for her relationship with Ellsworth, asking for

wedding wine. Not a single person mentioned Harriet.

It was as if… she had never existed.

She was not Ellsworth’s wife.

Off to the side, Ellsworth was dressed in a white shirt and black

suit, looking very distinguished

With both hands in his trouser pockets, he looked down at Kelsey, his eyes full of calm tenderness.

He had never looked at Harriet with such eyes-not even when

he asked her to have a child.

Listening to everyone’s questions, Kelsey smiled and said,

“There’s a lot to do now that I’m back. Tonight, let me treat

everyone to dinner, okay? And this time, I’m not leaving. We’ll be

able to get together often from now on.”

At this point, Kelsey turned to look at Ellsworth and said with a

smile, “As for the wedding wine between me and Ells, that

depends on Ells.”

After Kelsey spoke, everyone looked at Ellsworth and urged

him, “Ellsworth, hurry up! We’re all waiting for the wedding.”

“Ells, after so many years with Kel, it’s time for a result. We’ve all

got our red envelopes ready.”

Ellsworth still had his hands in his pockets, his nose straight

and his profile especially handsome.

Listening to everyone’s urging, he just smiled and said nothing.

Chapter48

At that moment, the people around him started to tease,

“Ellsworth, if you don’t say anything, that means you agree!”
