Harriet had known Ellsworth wasn’t stingy even before she 

married him. 

But after they got married, he felt she wasn’t worth it, that she 

didn’t deserve it, so he was unwilling to give her anything. 

Otherwise, how could he have been so generous to Kelsey and 

the Graham family, giving away such big projects without a 

second thought? 

When the Graham family needed funds, he didn’t hesitate at all. 

Although he had said he wouldn’t treat her well after the

version to her. “Ells prepared this one. He’ll definitely only sign 

his own. I’ll go talk to him.” 

He added, “These years have been hard on you.” 

Raymond didn’t try to persuade her to stay. The fact that he 

was willing to talk to Ellsworth about it made Harriet breathe a 

sigh of relief. She smiled and said, “It’s all in the past. It’s just another life experience.” 

She added, “Thank you, Grandpa. I’m sorry for causing trouble for the Townsend family these past few years.” 

At Harriet’s politeness, Raymond waved his hand. “The rest of us are fine, not affected at all. Just make sure you don’t let it affect you.”

She continued, “Grandpa, you should take a nap. I’ll go find Kat 

in the front.” 

Raymond said, “Go ahead.” 

As he watched Harriet get up and leave, Raymond couldn’t help 

but feel sad and reluctant. 

Among all the young women in their circle, Harriet was his 

favorite, the one he had the highest hopes for. 

When he first discussed the marriage with old Ralph, Ralph 

refused to let his granddaughter marry into the Townsend 

family. It took a lot of persuasion before Ralph agreed to ask 

his granddaughter’s opinion. 

But who could have foreseen this outcome? 

He felt deeply sorry–so very sorry. 

Thinking of this, Raymond felt that the last time he whipped 

Ellsworth, he had gone too easy on him.
