Chapter168
On the way, Kathie called her, saying that Ellsworth had rejected
the Ventura Tech investment project. She said she ran into
Kelsey just as she was leaving Ellsworth’s office, and Kelsey’s
face looked absolutely terrible.
In the passenger seat, Harriet listened to Kathie’s report and
couldn’t help but feel a bit surprised.
She had thought Ellsworth would invest in Ventura Tech, that he
would once again back Kelsey this time.
Unexpectedly… he refused.
Her red lips parted slightly as she said, “This must have been
hard for him.”
Kathie replied, “Not really.”
After chatting for a bit more and hanging up, Harriet told Jonas
about it.
Jonas, upon hearing this, also breathed a sigh of relief.
Otherwise, when reporting to the bosses in the future, they’d all
Chapter168
have to hide things and wouldn’t dare say too much.
After chatting with Jonas, Harriet turned to look out the
window.
The trees by the roadside were lush and full. Harriet rested her
elbow on the car window, her hand gently supporting her face,
her mood a bit like today’s sunshine.
A little bright and cheerful.
When they arrived at the lab, everyone changed into their lab
coats and dove straight into work.
The newly upgraded system had already been integrated into
the product, and today they were there to continue debugging
and testing.
The results were pretty good.
Because the previous work had gone smoothly, their efficiency
was quite high when they went to the lab today.
They finished up and returned home a little after five in the
afternoon.
After dinner at home, with nothing else to do, Harriet went to
Chapter168
the study to continue working overtime.
Wearing glasses on her nose and holding a pencil, she
alternated between looking at the computer and jotting down
calculations on paper. The desk was covered with her scribbled
notes.
It wasn’t until after nine in the evening, when Jacquelyn and the others had already gone to bed and the study door was
knocked on, that Harriet looked up to see Ellsworth had
returned.
With her right hand holding a pencil above the keyboard, she
greeted him, “You’re back.”
She then asked, “Have you eaten?”
But seeing the white gauze on Ellsworth’s forehead, she
couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed.
Walking up to the desk, Ellsworth casually picked up a sheet of her notes and glanced at it, then said in a calm voice, “Not yet.”
Hearing this, Harriet stood up from her chair and said gently, “Jacquelyn and the others have already gone to bed. Go take a shower first, and I’ll go downstairs to see what I can prepare for
you to eat.”
Chapter168
She had thought he wouldn’t come home tonight, but he did
after all.
Speaking softly, Harriet received a faint response from
Ellsworth. He then put down the notes in his hand and went to
the bedroom to shower.
Over ten minutes later, when he came downstairs, Harriet had
already cooked beef noodles for him, sliced some fruit, and
prepared a glass of milk.
When they had just gotten married, Harriet would wait for him
like this almost every day.
But… he never came home.
So later, she stopped preparing anything.
When she went to the kitchen to get a fork and spoon for
Ellsworth, she saw him remove the gauze from his forehead.
The wound was quite large and very noticeable.
Taking the fork Harriet handed him, Ellsworth said calmly, “Sit.”
Hearing Ellsworth, Harriet sat down across from him, glanced at
his wound, and said, “I didn’t mean to do it yesterday.”
Chapter168
She then asked, “Did you go to the hospital? Did you get a
tetanus shot?”
Ellsworth replied, “It’s nothing serious. I’ll just put some
ointment on it later.”
He then said to her, “The legal department has already finished
the asset liquidation. I’ll give you a copy of the list in a bit. See if
there’s anything in particular you want.”
Ellsworth suddenly bringing this up made Harriet look up at him.
So this was what he meant by ‘let’s talk‘ yesterday.
Looking at Ellsworth, Harriet shook her head. “No, you can
decide on the agreement.”
At this, Ellsworth asked, “Have you taken a liking to Reginald?”
Across the table, Harriet couldn’t help but laugh and said, “No, I
was just visiting a patient yesterday. Reginald couldn’t refuse
Grace’s request for a burger, so he took her, and brought me
along as well.”
The living and dining rooms were very quiet, so quiet that their
voices echoed faintly.
Chapter168
At this, Harriet teased, “You sure have a lot of informants.”
Last time, when Kat took her to a bar, someone took photos
and sent them to him.
This time, when she accompanied Gracelyn for a burger,
someone caught that too.
If she weren’t so unimportant, she’d suspect he was doing it on
purpose.
