Chapter138
After her head bobbed from side to side a couple of times, she simply leaned back in the seat and fell asleep.
Beside her, Ellsworth glanced at Harriet and, seeing she was asleep, raised his hand to adjust the air conditioning, turning up the temperature a bit, and then draped his jacket over her.
The car remained quiet. Occasionally, as he looked at the sleeping Harriet beside him, it felt as if they had returned to the
past.
It wasn’t until after one in the morning that the car stopped in
front of the villa. Seeing that Harriet was still asleep, Ellsworth
got out first, then gently carried her upstairs and let her sleep
just like that.

The next morning, when Harriet woke up, she found her alarm
had been turned off.
Ellsworth was gone too.
After showering and hastily eating breakfast at home, she drove

to the company.
In the afternoon, when things weren’t too busy, Harriet took
some time to visit the cemetery to see her parents.
Even on an overcast midsummer day, it was still stiflingly hot.
In front of the tombstone, after placing the fresh flowers,
Harriet stood quietly, gazing at the photos on the stone, looking
at her parents.
Her memories of her mother were already very distant.

After all, her mother had passed away when she was eight, so
for the next decade or so, she relied on those few memories
and photos to remember her.
She didn’t know how long she had stood in front of the grave
before she softly said, “Dad, Mom, I will take good care of
Grandpa, and I will take care of myself too. You don’t have to
worry.”
As dusk fell and the staff came to check and clean, Harriet
finally left.
On the way back, a sudden downpour started. With both hands
on the steering wheel, Harriet was thinking about the past,

about work and her projects, when her phone rang.
It was a call from Johnathan.
Harriet answered the call, greeting him with a smile, “Mr.
Burton.”
On the other end, Johnathan said, “Hara, I heard you sold your
patent and got promoted to project leader. Congratulations!”
With both hands on the steering wheel, Harriet smiled and said,
“I signed the contract with Mr. Barton yesterday. Thank you for
your congratulations, Mr. Burton.”
Johnathan said, “It’s good to have a fresh start at work, but
don’t just focus on work. Make time to get together with
everyone.”
Harriet said, “Sure.”
After chatting with Johnathan for a bit and hanging up, Darrick
called as well, also to congratulate her.
After that, she received several more calls in a row, all offering
their congratulations.
With everyone calling one after another, Harriet felt much

brighter than before.
At that moment, the heavy rain outside also stopped.
Looking out, Harriet saw a rainbow.
Gazing at the rainbow ahead, Harriet smiled knowingly.
Life, it seemed, still had its beauty.
Thinking of this, and of everyone’s blessings, Harriet called
Johnathan and the others again, asking if they were free that
evening. She said she wanted to treat everyone to dinner to
celebrate earning her first pot of gold.
As soon as Johnathan and Darrick heard about dinner, they
agreed without hesitation.
After hanging up, the two of them canceled their original plans.
Once the reservation was made, Harriet graciously sent
Ellsworth a message: “I’m treating everyone to dinner tonight.
Do you have time?”
Ellsworth quickly replied, “Yes.”
Seeing his reply, Harriet sent him the hotel address, inviting him
to join.

Ellsworth was even closer to Johnathan and the others, and he
had invested in the project, so there was no way she could
leave Ellsworth out and just meet with his friends.
Six o’clock.
When Harriet arrived at the hotel private room, Johnathan and
Darrick had just arrived, and Deandre Garrison and the others
were there too.
Kathie had arrived before her and was helping to greet
everyone.
Seeing Harriet arrive, Kathie came over and hugged her: “Hara,
you’re amazing! Your high school patent is still so valuable
now.”
Hugging Kathie, Harriet smiled and said, “Thank you, Kat.
Thanks for helping me take care of everyone.”
“It’s nothing,” Kathie said. “But when you called earlier, it
sounded like you weren’t downtown. Where did you go?”
Letting go of the hug, Harriet smiled and said, “I went to see my
parents.”
Hearing Harriet’s words, Kathie hugged her again and gently

patted her back: “It’s okay, you still have me, and everyone
else.”
Harriet nodded. Over the years, it was thanks to Kathie being by
her side that she still had someone to talk to.
After the two hugged again, Johnathan teased, “Hara, I want a hug too.”
Harriet was amused and said with a laugh, “Sure.”
