Chapter129

Chapter129

Soon after, Johnathan sent him some group chat messages

and videos from the Graham family’s birthday banquet on

WhatsApp. Kelsey’s parents and grandfather openly called him

the Graham family’s son-in-law.

Looking at the chat logs and videos Johnathan sent, Ellsworth’s

expression darkened.

He had gone to the Graham’s villa today mainly for Sylvia’s

sake, out of consideration for her.

Frowning, Ellsworth closed the videos, only for Johnathan to

message him again.

This time, he didn’t send any more chats or videos. He just sent

Ellsworth a single sentence: “Ells, the way you treat Hara is the

way outsiders will treat her. If you really can’t do it, let her go.”

After reading Johnathan’s message, Ellsworth didn’t reply. He simply exited WhatsApp.

He tossed his phone onto the cabinet beside him, not too hard, not too soft. When he looked back, Harriet had already picked

up her pants from the floor and was buttoning up her shirt.

Thinking of the lively atmosphere at the Graham’s villa, then

looking at the quietness of the Chavez’s mansion and Harriet’s

silence, Ellsworth felt unsettled inside.

He hadn’t meant for things to go this way; he had just been too

angry earlier.

Standing by the back window, Ellsworth watched Harriet for a

while before finally walking over.

Coming up to Harriet, he took his right hand out of his pocket

and ruffled her hair. “I overreacted just now. I scared you.”

Harriet didn’t look up. After fastening her buttons, she silently

removed his hand from her head.

She was keeping her distance.

Harriet’s coldness left Ellsworth’s hand hanging in midair,

unable to pull it back for a long time.

Only after she had finished tidying her clothes and the bed did

Harriet glance at Ellsworth and coolly remind him, “Let’s go

down for dinner.”

With that, she turned and walked toward the door.

Looking up at Harriet’s lonely, desolate figure, Ellsworth said in

a low voice, “Harriet, I agree to the divorce.”

Hearing Ellsworth mention divorce, Harriet was stunned.

Her right hand, which was on the doorknob, paused. She stood

in silence for a moment, then turned to look at Ellsworth and

softly said, “Okay.”

Seeing this, Ellsworth said gently, “The divorce agreement isn’t

that simple. Give the legal department a little time.”

Harriet nodded. “Alright.”

Harriet didn’t say a single word to make him stay, didn’t show

any reluctance. Ellsworth felt as if his heart were pricked by

thorns.

He suddenly wanted to let go, to set her free, because she

hadn’t resisted at all just now, because the light in her eyes had

vanished.

So, he wavered.

He used to think, if she could endure, then they’d just go on like

this.

If she couldn’t endure, they’d still go on like this.

But he never expected her to be so utterly hopeless. In that

moment of despair and helplessness, he backed down.

He was done with this contest.

No matter why she had married him in the first place, he would

compromise now. He would stop seeking revenge.

But as soon as he agreed to Harriet’s request, the thought that

she would come home and never see him again, that they

would become strangers, that she would avoid him as much as

possible-Ellsworth’s heart clenched in pain, and his fingers.

trembled.

If they really divorced, they would become strangers from then

Seeing the sadness in Ellsworth’s eyes, Harriet reminded him,

“Let’s go downstairs.”

Hearing her gentle voice, Ellsworth walked over, took her arm,

and pulled her into his embrace.

Chapter129

Harriet was startled and looked up at him.

She raised her hands, about to push him away, but

remembering that he had just agreed to the divorce, she didn’t.

Instead, she gently patted his back with her right hand, as if to

comfort him.

After a moment, she said softly, “Ellsworth, thank you anyway.”

Thank you for appearing in her life, thank you for saving her,

thank you for once giving her happiness.

And finally… thank you for letting go.

Hearing Harriet’s thanks, Ellsworth gave a helpless smile. After

all these years, she still knew exactly how to stab him where it

hurt.

Releasing her from his embrace, Ellsworth looked down at

Harriet, at her quiet demeanor, and said, “Let’s go downstairs.”

Harriet nodded with a soft “Mm,” and the two of them went

downstairs together.

Ellsworth walked in front, Harriet behind him. Ellsworth’s steps

were much slower than usual.

Chapter129

But as they walked, neither of them spoke a word.

When they reached the ground floor, Ralph saw them coming

down and said to Harriet, “Awake? Ells has been waiting for you

all afternoon.”

Harriet smiled and said, “I didn’t know he was here. He didn’t

wake me up either.”
