Chapter120
Chapter120
Once the car started, Kathie chattered nonstop, talking about
work one moment and gossiping about their social circle the
next.
In the passenger seat, Harriet listened earnestly, giving Kathie
her full attention.
And… she sided with Kathie, joining her in criticizing others.
It wasn’t until they arrived at the restaurant and sat down at the
table that Kathie finished her stories and looked at Harriet,
asking, “Hara, what about you? How are things with Ells lately?
My mom said you two went home for dinner last week.”
Harriet ladled a bowl of soup for Kathie and handed it over,
replying unhurriedly, “Same as always. Still no progress on the
divorce.”
As she spoke, she told Kathie about Ellsworth giving her the
property deed and about him promising the grandparents they’d
have a child.
Across the table, Kathie listened to Harriet’s update and said,

“Why do I feel like Ells has changed a lot lately? Not only is he
spending more time at home, but his attitude toward you has
improved a lot. That jerk-could it be he’s developed feelings for
you over time and doesn’t want a divorce anymore?”
Before Harriet could reply, Kathie continued, “I’ve told you
before, you can’t be too nice to a man. If you care too much, he
won’t care about you. If my brother really comes back to the
family and is willing to live a good life, what would you think?”
To Kathie’s words, Harriet replied gently, “His attitude is a bit
better now because your parents and grandparents are
pressuring him. I’ve tried for three years, worked hard for three
years. If he doesn’t like me, he just doesn’t. It’s unrealistic to
expect much change in the future.”
“Besides, I’ve been so tired these past few years. I really don’t
want to keep going.”
At this point, Harriet paused, then continued, “Since I changed
jobs, I don’t feel so stifled anymore. After the divorce, whether I
move back in with Grandpa or buy my own place, I think I’ll be in
a much better state.”
Harriet never told Kathie about her depression, afraid it would
worry her.
Chapter120
And she didn’t want the Townsend family to know about it
either.
She just wanted to get the divorce over with as soon as
possible, to cut ties with Ellsworth and start a brand new life.
As for the Auburn Heights house, she most likely wouldn’t live
there.
There were too many sad and oppressive memories there-she
didn’t want to face them or remember them.
Harriet insisted on the divorce, and Kathie said, “Hara, you still
have the same temper as always. You put up with things until
you can’t anymore, and once you’ve made up your mind, not
even ten oxen could drag you back.”
.”But Ells really is exhausting. I won’t try to talk you out of it.
Once you’re divorced, I’ll find you someone great, just to slap
Ells in the face and make him regret it.”
Harriet was amused by Kathie’s words. “Alright, then I’ll wait for you to introduce me to a boyfriend.”
Kathie said, “Don’t worry, he’ll definitely be better than Ells.”
After chatting for a while, Kathie sighed and frowned, saying,

“You’ve got your life all planned out, but my parents are driving
me crazy lately, forcing me to go on blind dates. Honestly,
seeing you and Ells, I don’t want to get married at all.”
While serving Kathie some food, Harriet comforted her, “Not
every marriage is like ours. Your parents are great, and so are
many others. The reason Ellsworth and I didn’t work out is
because he doesn’t love me.”
“Once he’s with someone he loves, they’ll be happy too.”
Saying these things to comfort Kathie, Harriet couldn’t help but
feel a little sad.
After all, she was exposing her own wounds.
Hearing Harriet, Kathie stopped her, saying, “Alright, Hara, you
don’t have to be so polite with me. We’re just having dinner
together-no need to serve me food.”
Harriet smiled, “You look so down today.”
Kathie replied, “That’s all my parents’ fault.”
As soon as Kathie finished speaking, her phone rang-it was
Johnathan calling.
Chapter 120
Seeing Johnathan’s number, Kathie picked up the phone,
swiped to answer, and said cheekily, “Nathan, what’s up?”
On the other end, Johnathan laughed heartily, “Back from your
trip? Come have dinner. I’ll call Hara over too.”
Kathie popped a green vegetable into her mouth and said,
“You’re too late-we’re already eating.”
“It’s not even dark yet and you two are already eating?”
Johnathan said. “Efficient as always.”
Before Kathie could hang up, Johnathan added, “Come over and
hang out after you eat. I’ll set up two tables at the usual place.
Bring Hara with you.”
Hearing there would be cards to play, Kathie’s eyes lit up
instantly and she said loudly, “Sure, Hara and I will come over
later. Save me a seat.”
