Chapter114
Chapter114
Her belly soon felt the warmth, and the pain eased a little.
At this moment, Ellsworth didn’t leave Harriet’s room. He pulled
out the chair in front of her desk and sat down across from her.
Harriet picked up her cup again, holding it in both hands,
blowing gently on the tea before taking a small sip.
Sitting across from Harriet, Ellsworth quietly watched her.
Seeing the sweat on her forehead, he reached out to wipe it
away and brushed aside the stray hair on her face.
This kind of interaction felt just like years ago, when Harriet
was still in school and he hadn’t yet seen her diary.
Feeling Ellsworth’s gentleness, Harriet looked up at him and
said, “Thank you.”
Seeing this, Ellsworth withdrew his hand.
Holding the cup in both hands, she slowly blew on the tea. She
remembered that when she used to visit the Townsend’s
mansion, Ellsworth had also made her brown sugar ginger tea.
Chapter114
Back then, she was only fourteen or fifteen, and the fire at her
home hadn’t happened yet.
She remembered that time she had gone to see Kat, but Kat
wasn’t home, so Ellsworth asked her to help him with his
homework.
While she was working, her stomach started to hurt, so
Ellsworth made her brown sugar ginger tea. After that, he didn’t
make her continue with the homework-he let her rest on his
bed.
She rested.
And even fell asleep.
So, all along, she thought Ellsworth liked her.
If she had known marriage would turn them into enemies, she
would never have admitted to liking him, never would have
married him.
Thinking of the past, Harriet couldn’t help but smile.
Seeing her smile, Ellsworth asked in a mild voice, “What are you
smiling about?”
Chapter114
Harriet looked up and shook her head at him. “It’s nothing.”
Back then, she always called him Ells.
With Harriet’s clear gaze, Ellsworth raised his right hand and
gently brushed her cheek with the back of it.
Harriet’s mother passed away early, so she was always very
quiet as a child. Other than Kathie, she had almost no other
friends. She often went to the Townsend’s mansion to play, and
the three siblings always took good care of her, including him
and Ken.
Harriet was also very obedient. Since she was little, if he told
her to go east, she would never go west. If he said one, she
would never say two.
He treated her just like he treated Kat.
Sometimes, he was even better to her than to Kat.
Sylvia was different from her. Sylvia was his desk mate, gentle and thoughtful, making everything easy and comfortable when
they were together.
They were very much in sync.
Chapter114
If it hadn’t been for Sylvia, he probably wouldn’t have survived
that accident.
It took him years to recover after Sylvia left.
He agreed to marry Harriet because he thought they would be a
good match, but he hadn’t expected to find her diary at the
Chavez’s mansion and discover her secret.
The room was very quiet, and tonight Ellsworth also found
himself thinking of many things from the past.
The two sat facing each other. Seeing that Ellsworth was still in
her room, Harriet took a few sips of her brown sugar ginger tea,
then looked up at him and reminded, “It’s getting late, you…”
Before Harriet could finish, Ellsworth interrupted her.
He raised his right hand, wiped the brown sugar tea from the
corner of her mouth, and asked in a clear voice, “You used to be
so obedient. Now that I say we shouldn’t get divorced, why
won’t you listen to me?”
He thought she was soft-hearted, thought she had married him
with an agenda, and that he could control her.
He hadn’t expected that this time, Harriet would stand her

ground against him.
She had even secretly gone to look at apartments.
At Ellsworth’s question, Harriet avoided his gaze and looked
elsewhere, replying softly, “We’re not right for each other.”
Harriet turned her face away, but Ellsworth grabbed her chin
and made her look at him.
Their eyes met. Harriet blinked and instinctively swallowed.
She pressed her lips together, and just as she was about to
push Ellsworth’s hand away, he leaned in and kissed her.
Harriet, holding her cup in both hands, froze for a moment.
Then… she held her breath.
She didn’t close her eyes, just stared at Ellsworth motionlessly,
her grip on the cup tightening.
Ellsworth closed his eyes, holding her chin as he kissed her
deeply.
Harriet’s lips and tongue were soft, with a faint taste of ginger
and spice.
Chapter114
The more Ellsworth kissed her, the more he lost himself. His
hand slid from her chin to gently hold her neck. He kissed her
lips, then her cheek, her ear, her neck, her collarbone…
