Chapter 107

Life returned to how it used to be.

Early one morning, Reginald took Harriet to the military base to watch a live exercise. Harriet was deeply impressed.

By evening, as the two returned from the base, Harriet’s

emotions were still stirred. She felt that the projects Galaxy

Innovations was involved in were truly impressive-no wonder

Reginald had always been reluctant to work with private

enterprises.

With both hands on the steering wheel, Reginald had just

finished discussing guidance and positioning with Harriet when

his phone rang.

He picked up the call, and a young girl’s voice came from the

other end: “Is this Gracelyn’s father? I’m Gracelyn’s homeroom

teacher. Gracelyn accidentally bumped her eyebrow at

kindergarten and is now at Shoreworth Hospital. Do you have

time to come over?”

“Is it serious?”

Chapter 107

“It’s not too bad, but it would be best if a parent could come.”

“Alright, I’ll come over now.”

After hanging up, Reginald turned to Harriet and discussed with

her, “Harriet, I have something to take care of at Shoreworth

Hospital. After I finish at the hospital, I’ll take you home. Is that

alright?”

Upon hearing this, Harriet quickly said to Reginald, “Mr. Barton,

I’m fine. The hospital matters should come first.”

After Harriet agreed, Reginald drove straight to Shoreworth

Hospital.

By the time they arrived at the ward, dusk had already fallen.

Grayson had arrived before them and had already accompanied Gracelyn Barton through her suturing procedure. The little girl

was now lying asleep in her hospital bed.

She was fair and quiet, exceptionally pretty, like a porcelain doll-

except… she didn’t look like Reginald.

After carefully checking the little girl and confirming she had no other injuries-just a cut above her right eyebrow, which had

already been stitched and bandaged-Reginald went to the

doctor’s office.

In the ward, after Reginald left, the teacher apologized to

Harriet, embarrassed: “Are you Gracelyn’s mother? I’m so sorry,

we didn’t take good care of Gracelyn and she fell during a

running activity.”

As soon as the teacher finished, Grayson, standing beside

Harriet, quickly explained, “Ms. Luo, you’ve misunderstood.

Harriet, like me, is an employee of Galaxy Innovations. She and

Gracelyn’s father are just colleagues. They just came over from

the work site.”

The young female teacher said, “Sorry, sorry, I made a mistake.”

Grayson smiled and said, “It’s alright. Gracelyn is fine now. Ms.

Luo, you can go ahead with your work.”

The teacher replied, “Okay, I’ll head back then. If Gracelyn has

any issues, you can contact me anytime.”

Grayson nodded with an “Mm,” and the young female teacher

left first.

The ward was very quiet. Although the lights were bright, the

little girl slept soundly.

Chapter 107

At this moment, Harriet looked up at Grayson, curiosity written all over her face, and asked in a low voice, “Grayson, isn’t Mr. Barton single? How does he suddenly have a child?”

It was rare for Harriet to be so interested in gossip. Grayson glanced at the door and whispered, “Let’s talk outside.”

Reginald has a five-year-old daughter. This isn’t a secret at Galaxy Innovations. When Gracelyn is on holiday, Reginald

brings her to the company to play and even teaches her some

professional knowledge.

At just five years old, the knowledge Gracelyn has learned already surpasses that of many middle and high school

students.

The two of them quietly closed the door and stepped into the

corridor. The hallway was very quiet, with only the occasional

nurse passing by, their footsteps echoing clearly.

Glancing back at the ward to make sure the little girl was still asleep, Grayson finally spoke to Harriet: “Grace was adopted by

Mr. Barton. Five years ago, Mr. Barton had acute

gastroenteritis. I accompanied him to the hospital for an IV, and as we were leaving, we saw a little girl abandoned at the

emergency entrance.”

Chapter 107

“The nurse said the child had been born not long before. The

father had never shown up, and the mother suffered from severe postpartum depression. She had twice tried to end her

life with the child but was stopped by the nurses. That time, she

left the child at the door and disappeared.”

“Mr. Barton stood there for a while. The nurse said that if the

mother came back and took the child, both mother and

daughter probably wouldn’t survive long. So Mr. Barton took the

child with him.”

“At the time, I reminded Mr. Barton that raising a child isn’t easy,

and that being single with a child would be even harder. But Mr.

Barton said he probably wouldn’t ever get married or have

children, so adopting Grace would be a kind of spiritual

comfort. I didn’t say anything more and just helped him with the

adoption paperwork.”

“Grace doesn’t know about this. She has always believed Mr.

Barton is her biological father. But this isn’t a secret at Galaxy

Innovations-everyone knows.”

Chapter108

Harriet listened quietly to Grayson’s story.

At that moment, Grayson glanced at his watch and said to

Harriet, “Harriet, I have dinner plans with my girlfriend tonight. We’re talking about marriage lately. I need to go now. Could you look after Grace for a bit? Is that okay?”

Harriet replied, “Go ahead, don’t let me hold you up. I’ll take care

of Grace.”

After Harriet agreed to stay and look after Grace, Grayson left

the hospital first.

Watching Grayson’s figure disappear from view, Harriet turned

and went back into the ward.

She pulled out the chair beside the hospital bed and sat down,

resting her chin in her hand, gazing intently at the little girl in the

bed, thinking how lucky she was to have met Reginald.

She reached out to tuck the thin blanket around the little girl,

just as Reginald returned.

Seeing this, Harriet stood up and said to him, “Grayson went to
