Chapter 20

In the conference room on the top floor of Schmidt Group’s office building, Cora sat at the head of the table. The neatly-tailored, black skirt suit she had on accentuated her strong professional qualities and dominance.

A complex flow chart for a merger and acquisition was displayed on the main screen.

While she did not speak quickly, every word she said was profound, and every strategy hit the nail on the head. All the higher-ups gave her their complete attention. None of them dared to slack off even the slightest.

“We will be implementing Plan C. I want the legal department to send me the agreement’s final draft before the end of the day.”

The moment she gave her instruction, everyone did as she asked immediately. No one dared to even hesitate.

Everyone left the conference room in a flash. Then, Cora’s chief assistant hurried to her side, carrying a stack of documents. “Ms. Spade, we have the findings from Chremford.”

“Go ahead.” Cora lifted the cup of black coffee in her hand and took a sip, her eyes still fixed on the merger and acquisition plan on the screen. She acted as if she were listening to an insignificant schedule update.

The chief assistant said, “Louise added a kind of neurotoxin in Paul’s and Margaret’s food, and the dosage she used was lethal. Fortunately, Ruby Quall, the woman you planted at the Jaeger residence previously, was quick-witted enough.

“She called 911 the moment Paul and Margaret showed signs of poisoning. Both of them were saved, but the nerves in their brains were severely damaged, resulting in a degeneration of their intelligence.

“They’re left with a six-year-old’s intelligence. For Margaret, her central nervous system was damaged, so she is paralyzed from the waist down. In other words, she’s disabled now.”

All that could be heard in the conference room was the central air conditioning’s soft hum.

“With incriminating evidence and Louise’s failed murder attempt a few days ago, the police at Chremford have made their official arrest. They’re currently working on extraditing her.”

At this moment, the chief assistant received an internal call from a secretary, who reported that a “Mr. Jaeger” had requested to meet with Cora.

Cora’s assistant was about to snap at the secretary to turn down the request when Cora said after a slight pause, “Let him up.”

She had a feeling that this was their very final meeting. Some things were better said in person.

After finishing her cup of coffee, she continued discussing the previous topic with her assistant. “Let Asher know that our corporation will be giving our full support in his taking

over Jaeger Group.

“However, that will be on the condition that Jaeger Group’s property businesses have to be detached from their corporation and joined to the merger and acquisition that we just completed.”

Cora spoke in such a casual tone that she sounded like she was just discussing how a cake

should be cut.

Nonetheless, everyone was aware that this was just the beginning. Jaeger Group’s ownership and the corporation’s fate were held firmly in her hands.

Her assistant noted her instructions down quickly. “Got it.”

Just as she was about to remind Cora about a virtual meeting that was happening in ten minutes, the door to the conference room flung open.

Only a week had passed, so Axel hadn’t recovered from his knife injury. His sunken, and his gait was unstable.

In a rough voice, he said, “Cora, you’ve won. I admit that I was wrong in every way. But could you please leave the real estate company to me, just for Nolan’s sake? He’ll need this in the future, too…”

Axel was well aware of the fact that Cora wouldn’t give Nolan a tough life, even if it was just out of a sense of responsibility.

Cora lifted her head and stared quietly at the man she once loved and despised. Now, all that was left in her gaze was a distant iciness and a hint of pity.

“I’m sorry that I forgot to tell you-Nolan is no longer your son.”

Axel was stunned.

Cora tilted her head as she lifted the corners of her lips into a smirk. “Asher came to see me in private on the first day of the summit meeting, and he gave me a surprise-a diagnosis report for azoospermia.”

After pausing for a while, Axel came to a sudden realization. He widened his eyes immediately.

Cora continued in a steady voice, “He even flew to Aaron’s hospital just to get checked another time. The results were consistent.

“He needs an heir, while I need an absolutely reliable proxy. All legal procedures are settled.

Chapter 20

Nolan is now Asher’s son, and he will be the only legal heir to Jaeger Group in the future.”

Every word was like a blade, stabbing mercilessly into Axel’s heart. He staggered, his face turning as white as a sheet right away.

“T-That’s impossible…”

Cora checked her wristwatch, then got out of her seat. “He needs a father with an even higher status, who’s safer for him to be with.”

She could still remember Axel saying something similar to her in the past. “I’d be able to get him another mother with an even higher status at any time, as long as I wish to do so.”

Fast forward to today, those words were like a hard slap to his face. He slumped to the floor.

Cora paid no further attention to him. Confidently, she strutted past him in her heels, leaving a chilling fragrance in her wake.

From a distance, he could hear the conversation between her and her assistant.

“Inform the people at the investment bank that our meeting will begin on time,” Cora said.

“What about your date with Dr. Welsh tonight?”

“Proceed as usual,” she answered as she walked away from Axel elegantly and resolutely, not sparing him another look.
