Chapter 19
When the hour hand on the clock pointed toward ten at night, Cora looked up from a pile of documents and massaged her sore neck.
George handed her some hot tea. “Ms. Cora, Mr. Aaron has just completed a surgery. He probably needs another ten minutes before he can get here. How about we get a bodyguard to keep you company as you take your walk in the park?”
The tired Cora took a sip of tea, then massaged the area between her brows. “It’s fine.’
The park was peaceful and quiet at night. The evening breeze in the fall brushed against her long hair. The exhaustion within her dissipated gradually as she spent time in this comforting
night.
At first, Aaron took her for walks in the park whenever he had time on his hands as a way to treat her moderately severe depression. Eventually, that became a routine of theirs.
Even though the night was still, the shadows of some trees a short distance away swayed briefly.
Ever since Axel arrived in Molina, Cora kept having the feeling like she was being watched. However, he only watched her from afar. Just like a shadow, he followed her around but stayed out of her way and was completely harmless.
As such, Cora didn’t care much about him.
Suddenly, a glint flashed across within the shadows beside her. A sharp blade appeared out of nowhere, coming at her at the speed of lightning.
At the same time, she heard a rough and vicious roar. “You will pay for what you did to my son!

Cora widened her eyes in terror. What she saw next was the twisted and maniacal look on
Louise’s face.
Just as the blade in Louise’s hand was about to slice through the exposed part of her neck, a loud bang rang out. All of a sudden, Cora was shoved aside by a large force.
Right at that moment, the blade sank into Axel’s chest. It was like time had stopped.
A second later, Axel convulsed, his painful groans stuck in his throat.
He looked down at the hilt of the blade sticking out of his chest, then lifted his head at Louise, who had shock written all over her face. He collapsed to the ground instantly.
Warm blood from his chest quickly soaked through the front of his shirt. Intuitively, he tried

his best to look up at Cora.

The moment he tried to speak, blood gushed out of his mouth. Even so, he gathered all he had within him to utter two words. “Go. Run…”
After that momentary shock, Louise’s eyes reddened and lit up with jealousy once again. With one forceful move, she pulled the blade out of Axel’s chest. As she did so, a string of blood arced gracefully through the air before splattering onto the grass and her face.
Louise seemed to have gone completely berserk. Excitedly, she licked the blood around her lips and tasted it.
“I can’t believe you actually shielded this bitch from my knife! You’re just a worthless man. Why are you pretending to be a saint in love?” she exclaimed, crying and laughing at the same time.
“Just you wait,” she said as she lifted the bloodied knife in her hand. Step by step, she approached Cora, who had been knocked down to the ground earlier. “I will soon send you both to join my poor child in the afterlife!”
At that instant, two gunshots sounded simultaneously. The blade fell out of Louise’s hand and onto the ground. She stared at Cora in disbelief.
Cora sat on the ground, showing no signs of fear on her face. Instead, she curled her lips nonchalantly. “Don’t you carry a gun with you while you’re out shopping?”
She had a gun in her right hand. Smoke was still curling from its barrel.
The close-range shot shattered Louise’s wrist completely. At the same time, a ripping pain shot through her shoulder. Instantly, she let out a blood-curdling scream. “Cora!”
Because of the pain, her voice became unsteady and unclear. “You fucking bitch! Why did you still have to ruin Axel after you’ve left? Because of you, I lost the chance to marry into the Jaeger family and be a rich man’s wife.
“Even the old hags in the Jaeger family became your lapdogs! They drugged me, forcing me to have a miscarriage and lose my child… How inhumane. You people are inhumane!
“You were so close to joining both the old hags in hell and becoming their daughter-in-law. But I guess they’ll still be overjoyed to have their son join them.”
She guffawed.
Axel, who was lying in a pool of blood, widened his eyes. He groaned as despair and disbelief filled his eyes.
“You killed them?” Cora asked calmly.
A vicious smirk spread across Louise’s face. “Come over here, and I’ll tell you.”

Once again, there was another bang. A shot was fired through Louise’s left shoulder, leaving her shoulder bloodied.
Her left hand, which she had been hiding behind her back, became twisted. A switchblade fell out of her grasp.
With a gun in hand, Aaron strode steadily toward them from afar, stepping on blood-stained leaves on the ground in the process.
He adjusted the glasses on his nose slightly. A cold gleam reflected from them as he asked, Do you have enough cash on you to summon an ambulance?”
Right now, Louise was just like a broken doll with her arms hanging limply by her side. Tears and blood ran down her face, giving her the appearance of a ghost from hell.
“Just you wait, Cora. Your entire family is going to die! Axel, you have been blinded, too. Even if I die, I will come back as a ghost to bring you people down to hell!” she screamed.
Even though Cora looked calm earlier, it was actually her first time firing a gun. She got to her feet, trembling. She maintained a tight grasp on the gun in her hand as she pointed it at Louise, who was cursing madly after falling to the ground.
Aaron put his hand over her hand that was holding the gun, helping her regain her composure gradually. He gazed at her tenderly as he comforted her. “Don’t be afraid. She’s not going to die just yet.”
The wail of police sirens grew closer. Suddenly, all the tension within Cora vanished. She felt her legs go weak as she fell into Aaron’s warm embrace.
