Upon hearing that, everyone in the Jaeger family froze. When Margaret saw that Hubert was about to leave, the ashen expression on her face was replaced by a violent and murderous glow. 

She jumped to her feet and darted toward Louise, who was in the corner. 

Shocked by Margaret’s intimidating air, Louise barely managed to utter her name before Margaret grabbed her by her hair. A ripping pain tore at her scalp. 

Before she could even cry out, she was slapped twice across the face, hard. 

“You bitch! Our family hired you to be a nanny to our dear grandchild. How did he become malnourished and claustrophobic? Did you take Nolan’s supplements to nourish the bastard you’re carrying instead?” 

Even Axel was frightened by how fierce Margaret looked. As far as he could remember, she was always demure and elegant. 

Paul, on the other hand, watched on with an emotionless gaze. The look on his face even eased up a little. 

The biggest strength of this first wife of his was that she was sharp-witted. She was able to distinguish between the pros and the cons. 

Right now, she had abandoned her own gracious demeanor in order to preserve both the Jaeger family’s reputation as well as her and Axel’s statuses. It was just a pity that Axel hadn’t inherited this quality of hers. 

“Marge, this baby isn’t a bastard child. It really is Axel’s!” Louise cried out. She slumped to the ground with tears all over her face, with no care for the burning sensation on her cheeks. 

Cora, who was following behind Hubert, looked back all of a sudden. She lifted the corners of her lips into a murderous grin. “That is all the more reason it shouldn’t be here.” 

Paul understood what she meant immediately. He nodded and reassured, “Don’t worry, Ms. Spade. Nolan will be Axel’s only son.” 

Thereafter, he clapped, and two doctors approached Louise slowly. Suddenly, she realized what was about to happen. 

She wailed in despair, “No, I’m not getting an abortion! Axel, be a man and step forward to protect our child! Are you actually going to abandon both of us like how you abandoned Cora?” 

Every word she said hit the nail on the head, reminding Axel of his embarrassment deep within. More than that, it was because of how merciless and furious Cora was.

He shielded Louise behind him, pretending to be determined and firm. “Cora, I know that you want to take your revenge on me because you hate me. You can very well come right at me. Why do you have to torment Louise and her child? 

“It’s just Schmidt Group withdrawing their investment, isn’t it? Did you think that I wouldn’t be able to survive without them? Well, guess what? Even if you people withdraw your investment, I would be able to make it through, anyway! 

“Did you really think that you’d be able to rule over all of Axeholt City just because of Schmidt Group, a corporation that’s in a foreign land far away?” 

Terrified by Axel’s mindless blabber, Margaret staggered. 

Cora let out a laugh. “I don’t need to rule over the entire city. I just need to make you wish you 

were dead.” 

She bent forward and whispered in his ear, “Withdrawing the investment is only the beginning. The main event and the climax have yet to happen. Enjoy, Mr. Axel.” 

In the end, Margaret failed to hold herself together. She collapsed with a loud thud. 

Paul remained composed. He shouted in the direction of those who were leaving, “Mr. Schmidt, Nolan will be Jaeger Group’s future heir. You have my word!” 

Meanwhile, Ella caught up with Cora, who was heading out the door. She mumbled, “Who cares about that chump change?” 

A private plane headed for Molina traveled steadily through the clouds a few tens of thousands of feet in the sky. 

Hubert, who asserted his authority earlier, looked at Cora, who was studying a financial report. After much hesitation, he finally asked, “Cora, do you seriously not want to get custody of Nolan?” 

Cora’s eyes shifted. But two seconds later, a steadiness came back into her eyes as she nodded. 

Hubert’s heart ached. He was certain that Cora really cared about Nolan. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have put in all that hard work into making those arrangements before she left. 

She planted informants throughout the Jaeger family so that she could both keep Nolan safe and be updated immediately if anything happened. 

Hubert continued, “I have the best team of attorneys in the world. They’d be able to get Nolan to be ruled as your son as long as that’s what you want, no matter what Axel says.” 

Cora shook her head and smiled bitterly. “Nolan doesn’t recognize me at the moment. It’ll

actually be dangerous if we bring him home against his will.

“Plus, Dad, I am a woman. I’d be able to find someone who’s even more outstanding and have a few of my own children at any time if I want to. For now, I just want to put all my focus into running Schmidt Group. 

“What I did for Nolan was more out of a sense of responsibility.” 

Admiration and relief crossed Hubert’s eyes. At first, he was worried that Cora was so hung up 

on love that she only agreed to take over the business so that she could take her revenge. 

However, after all that happened, he could finally feel at ease. Cora took after his decisiveness and level-headedness, while she took over her mother’s perseverance. 

She might actually achieve much more than he did.
