Chapter 12

Even with Hubert’s personal guidance, Cora’s path was far from easy.

Two weeks later, in Schmidt Group’s top-tier strategy conference room, a meeting was underway about a competitor’s latest moves. Though called a meeting, it was primarily a session where seasoned veterans took turns firing sharp, pointed questions at Cora.

She responded with clear logic and struck key points squarely. Though still slightly green, she exceeded everyone’s expectations.

Hubert watched with deep admiration. Cora was indeed born to stand at the pinnacle of capital.

Still, Cora’s answers were a result of her mind racing at full speed and straining every neuron.

By the end, a thin layer of sweat had dampened her back.

Just as the meeting concluded, an assistant hurried over and whispered something into Hubert’s ear. His expression turned grave, but he didn’t forget to remind Cora to eat her meals before leaving.

In the lounge, Cora enjoyed a meticulously balanced lunch Aaron had prepared while on a video call with Ella, who’d just ended a board meeting. At that moment, Ella was eagerly venting about how clueless and naive someone’s illegitimate son was, trying to seize her

shares.

“Honestly, I envy you. You don’t have to deal with wave after wave of people’s illegitimate children,” Ella mumbled through a mouthful of salad. “In that regard, your ex-husband and I probably feel the same.”

Aaron stiffened at the casual mention of Axel. Though they had become numb to Axel’s scumbag behavior, they were extra careful about it around Cora, especially when her depression, caused by Axel, had just begun to improve.

Cora thoughtfully said, “That sounds like a potential weakness.”

Her eyes showed no pain from past hurt, only the excitement of identifying an opponent’s flaw. It seemed she’d moved on, after all.

Just then, a loud noise suddenly erupted from the chairman’s office.

Hubert had slammed his hand on the desk, hard enough to rattle the metal fixtures. A detailed investigative report lay spread out, clearly outlining Cora’s life over the past few years.

As a man known for never showing emotion in front of outsiders, his eyes were now bloodshot as he gritted his teeth. “That fucking jerk… How dare he mistreat my daughter?

He’s doomed!

“Brian, contact the legal team immediately. I want Axel Jaeger ruined, and Louise…” He paused as countless ways to make their lives a living hell flashed through his mind.

“Dad.” Cora appeared at the office door, looking calm.

For a second, Hubert’s heart faltered. Did she still care for Axel?

He watched as Cora narrowed her eyes and added, “Prison would be too easy for him.”

As he breathed a secret sigh of relief, Cora continued with a wry smile, “And there’s Nolan, though he shares my blood…”

That bitter smile soon vanished, replaced by a burning fire in her eyes. “Leave it to me, Dad. I want to handle my personal affairs myself.”

“Sure. Schmidt Group’s resources are at your disposal, so use them as you see fit,” he announced in a hoarse voice, leaning back exhaustedly in his chair.

Cora nodded slightly and presented the plan she’d prepared. “The Azon-Brontee FinTech Summit Meeting will be held in Axeholt City next week. Jaeger Group is one of the hosts.”

Axel, desperate to save his crisis-ridden company and prove his capabilities, would definitely join the summit meeting in full force.

Aside from his personal failings, Cora also held evidence of fraud in his business dealings,

which could take him down.

A gleam flashed in Hubert’s eyes. “This is also the perfect opportunity to formally announce you as Schmidt Group’s heir.”

He’d been waiting to show Cora off for a long time, but she’d always disliked social events and kept putting it off.

This summit meeting would be Cora’s coronation and the true beginning of Axel’s descent

into hell.
