Chapter 26

Scott then said apologetically: “When I marry her, I’ll send you an invitation.” His gaze occasionally drifted sideways. Kim frowned slightly but stayed silent.

She just smiled and offered congratulations: “Sure, let me share in the joy.”

After a brief, hurried exchange, they parted ways.

Scott continued walking ahead with Pamela.

Yet since that encounter, Pamela’s mood had remained somber.

Noticing her pause, Scott glanced over: “What’s wrong?”

Pamela lowered her eyes, voice heavy: “Scott, I can’t go to that street food stall anymore…’

“I want to go home… our home.”

་་

Hearing this, Scott felt a pang of heartache. He took Pamela’s hand and turned back, murmuring gently: “We’ll go an- other time.”

“Let’s head home now.”

‘Ding~’

His phone suddenly chimed.

Scott checked it, his smile freezing mid-curve.

Pamela noticed his tension and waved a hand before him: “What happened?”

When Scott stayed silent, Pamela took his phone and read the notification:

-April 10.

Paul’s memorial service!

Fearing Pamela might blame herself, Scott instinctively covered the screen: “Pamela…”

“I’m okay.”

Pamela cut him off with a smile, her cool fingers closing around Scott’s hand.

“This time, I’ll go with you.”

Scott’s heart skipped a beat, mist gathering in his eyes: “Okay.”

Chapter 20

On the memorial day, storm clouds loomed with distant thunder.

Scott drove Pamela to the cemetery. Among rows of tombstones, he approached one.

The photo showed Paul in police uniform, smiling-his face forever preserved in that moment.

Kneeling before the grave, Scott stared at the image, eyes reddening: “Dad, I’m here.”

“Mom’s recovered now, just resting. Don’t worry.”

He managed a smile though sorrow shadowed his gaze, speaking slowly: “I know you wanted me to let go of the past… and I have.”

“Pamela… accepted my proposal. We’ll start our family soon.”

“You always loved her-used to tell Gerald and Anna she’d marry me someday.”

“Almost reality now…’

Pamela stood beside him, silently holding an umbrella.

After speaking, Scott arranged memorial offerings and poured wine before Paul’s grave.

He took the umbrella from Pamela and clasped her hand. Before leaving, he told the photo: “Dad, we’ll be alright.”

But as they walked out, passing another tombstone-

Scott glanced unintentionally and suddenly clutched his head, heart searing with agony!

Pamela froze in panicked helplessness.

“Scott! What’s wrong?!”
