Scott nodded without hesitation: “Of course. We have plenty of time ahead of us.”
Pamela’s eyes curved into crescents at his confirmation. She handed him stationery.
They wrote at the table until Scott finished first.
He sealed his letter and leaned toward Pamela’s side.
Just as he tried peeking, she caught him.
“Mind your own business!” She shielded her paper.
Scott spread his hands. “I’m done ages ago. You’re slow.”
“Tch.” Pamela scribbled hastily before tucking her letter away.
As Scott reached for her envelope to deposit both in the mailbox, curiosity stirred.
His fingers twitched when Pamela’s warning came: “Don’t even think about reading it, Scott!”
His childhood sweetheart knew him too well…
Resigned, he slid the stacked envelopes inside to await next year’s delivery.
Outside, a staffer in bear costume approached them under blazing sun, handing out flyers.
The pamphlets advertised evening camping at Artisan Village, featuring beachside neon lights.
Scott accepted one, turning to ask Pamela-only to find her returning with bottled water.
She offered it to the bear with a smile. “Stay hydrated. Tough work out here.”
The staffer accepted it gratefully before leaving.
Cool evening air replaced Artisan Village’s sticky heat as twilight fell.
Scott and Pamela strolled along the shore toward distant campsite glows,
He wished time could freeze this perfect moment…
Few spots remained at the campsite. Scott chose seats near the performer.
A server brought cocktails as the singer’s melodies wove romantic atmosphere.
Scott sipped his drink, watching Pamela’s profile as she listened intently.
