Chapter 37.
Rosalind jumped in shock. “What the hell are you doing…”
I should’ve gone crazy a long time ago,” Eugene muttered under his breath, cursing.
It was the first time Rosalind had seen Eugene lose his cool.
In the past, even when they would go head-to-head, firing sharp remarks at each other, he always had a grin on his face. He’d never been like this before.
It was kind of scary.
Rosalind had never thought about Eugene in a romantic sense, but now, she suddenly realized that when a man gets angry, it can be truly terrifying.
Eugene seemed to realize he was getting out of control. He took a few deep breaths, trying to calm himself, and forced his emotions down before slowly starting the car.
Rosalind quietly asked, “Where are you taking me?”
“To my place,” Eugene replied.
“What?” she asked, incredulous.
“Wherever you’re staying in San Francisco, Christopher will find you in a minute. He’ll be knocking on your hotel room door,” Eugene explained.
Rosalind paused for a moment, realizing he was right.
Given his power and influence, the second she checked in anywhere, Christopher would know about it immediately.
Eugene added, “If you really don’t want to see him, stay at my place for a few days.”
‘And you? Are you staying there too?” Rosalind asked.
Eugene rolled his eyes.”There’s a guest room. I’m not that desperate.”
Rosalind couldn’t help but roll her eyes in return.”Earlier in the elevator, I clearly remember you saying I have a lot going on up top. You can’t blame me for being cautious.”
Eugene smirked. “But I didn’t say I’d
I’d pounce.”
Rosalind snorted.”Well, at least I’m not flat.”
“True, you’re a little more than just nothing,” Eugene teased.
When they arrived at Eugene’s place in San Francisco, Rosalind was stunned. His apartment was a massive riverfront penthouse with a panoramic view, stretching all the way to the bay entrance.
The vast ocean stretched out before them, bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun, making the entire view shimmer like gold. The location was indeed exceptional.
Now, Rosalind truly believed Eugene was the owner of Wesley Hotel. A lawyer earning commissions could never afford such a prime location on his own.

It was a place that would take ten lifetimes to pay for.
Eugene said casually, “I’ll take the master bedroom. You’ll have the guest room. If you’re really worried, you can lock the door at night.”
Rosalind eyed him suspiciously.”Are you really being this nice?”
Eugene walked over to the bar and made himself a cup of coffee.”Want some?”
Rosalind shook her head.
Mer
He took a sip of his coffee and then casually added, “I’m not doing this out of kindness. You can stay at my place, but it’s not for free. You’ll have to pay rent.”
That made sense.
Rosalind raised an eyebrow.”How much?”
Eugene frowned as he thought for a moment.”2 grand a day.”
“Are you robbing me?” she shot back.
“You don’t want to stay? Go back to your hotel, then, or buy a plane ticket back to Houston and wait for Christopher to find you,” Eugene said with a shrug.
Rosalind smirked.”If he catches me, the next thing he’s doing is throwing me on the bed. You wouldn’t like that, would you?”
Eugene nearly spilled his coffee, the liquid splashing all over the floor-and his pants.
He set the cup aside, stood up, and headed for the bedroom.”I’m going to change.”
‘Do whatever you want. It’s your place,” Rosalind muttered.
‘Oh, wait,” Eugene paused, turning back. “I just remembered something. There’s lipstick on my shirt. You owe me for that.”
When he’d carried her earlier, Rosalind had instinctively buried her face into his chest.
She had rarely worn makeup at home, but since she had to go for the interview, she had put on some light makeup and lipstick.
Looking at Eugene’s shirt, she saw the faint traces of red lipstick on the collar.
‘Fine, I’ll pay you back. Just send me the link, and I’ll buy you an identical shirt.”
That shirt was custom-made in Italy. It cost around 100 thousand dollars,” Eugene said nonchalantly.
Rosalind stared at him, stunned.”You must be kidding. Are you and the tailor from the same counterfeit shop? You both rob people for a living?”
