Chapter 36.

Finally, he placed her in the car and drove off, heading out of the hotel.

It wasn’t until they’d been driving for a while that he finally said, “Alright, we’re good.”

Rosalind immediately took the jacket off her face and breathed in the fresh air, grateful for the space.

Eugene’s eyes glinted with amusement. “Well, did I keep my promise?”

Rosalind, still red from being suffocated under the jacket, looked up at him with a flushed face, her eyes shining with a slightly dazed look.”I almost suffocated!”

Eugene’s gaze lingered on her lips for a moment before he quickly turned his attention elsewhere.

Rosalind didn’t notice, but her mind shifted. “I can’t stay here. Christopher will find me and go after Vernon.”

‘Let him look,” Eugene replied, shrugging.

Rosalind shot him a glare, then turned to him, fuming.”You took that photo, didn’t you?”

‘What photo? I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Eugene played innocent.

Rosalind immediately knew he was lying. “You’re behind it, aren’t you? What’s your obsession with Christopher, Mr. Benitez? Do you really have feelings for him?”

Eugene sighed. “If you spent less time arguing with me and more time calling Vernon, maybe you’d save him from Christopher’s wrath.”

Rosalind glared at him, then quickly dialed Vernon’s number.

Vernon’s voice came through.”Me? I’m not at the hotel anymore. I took care of the accommodation for the group, and I’m heading back now.”

“Vernon, do you live far away?”

“Yes. The funding from the institute didn’t cover much, so we’re staying at a small hotel on the outskirts of town.”

Relieved, Rosalind relaxed slightly.

Christopher wouldn’t drive across half the city to hunt Vernon down.

Then, another call came in.

It was Christopher.

Rosalind simply blocked his number.

Eugene raised an eyebrow.”Cold-blooded.”

“Thanks to you,” she snapped.

“Hey, it was my plan to get you out of there. Show me some gratitude,” he teased.

“Gratitude? If you hadn’t taken that photo of me and Vernon, none of this would have happened. Why did you do

it? You want to tear us apart so bad, but doing that only brings him to me. What do you want?”

19:41

Eugene chuckled. “I didn’t expect him to care this much.”

“Well, it’s a shame. Even if he thinks I’m stepping out on him, I still hold his heart. Mr. Benitez, I’m telling you now-give it up. Based on my years with Christopher, he’s a true straight guy. You’ll never bend him.”

Eugene raised an eyebrow.”You’re sure of that?”

“Of course. We’ve been married for years, shared thousands of meals, spent thousands of nights together…”

Eugene slammed on the horn, cutting her off.

She frowned at the harsh sound. “What are you doing? There’s no one else on this road. Why are you honking?”

But the next second, she noticed Eugene’s face had gone as dark as night.

It was the complete opposite of his usual carefree demeanor, now filled with a hidden, violent rage, barely

contained.

He was genuinely angry.

Rosalind quickly figured it out and retorted, “You’re mad just because I mentioned sleeping with him? Mr. Benitez this jealousy of yours makes no sense. Christopher’s fine, and there’s no way he doesn’t have desires…”

Before she could finish, Eugene slammed on the brakes.

“Shut up. Don’t say another word,” he snapped.`
