Chapter 31.
“I’m applying for a hotel manager position, not for the role of a hotel princess, darling,” Rosalind said, giving Eloise a pointed look.
Eloise, however, lowered her voice with a mysterious grin. “I’ve had someone do some digging. The boss at Wesley Hotel has a thing for hot girls. I was thinking of sacrificing myself and having dinner with him to help you land the job, but it turns out he’s not into my type. You’ll have to work your magic yourself.”
Rosalind raised an eyebrow.“It’s just a hotel manager position. No need to pull out your big guns.”
Eloise leaned in and whispered, “You don’t get it. The Wesley Hotel is one of the most luxurious resorts. They have ridiculously high standards for their managers. I’ve heard that ever since this boss took over, they’ve gone through
over twenty managers.”
“The boss is that picky?” Rosalind asked, surprised.
“Yep. He’s incredibly mysterious and hasn’t shown his face in years. I had to pay some people off to get these clues. All for you.”
Just then, Rosalind’s phone buzzed.
Christopher texted her, “Have fun with Eloise, and let me know when you want to come back. I’ll pick you up.”
Christopher texted again, “Use the card I gave you. Don’t worry about spending. It’s on me.”
It seemed Christopher had indeed checked the flight information and confirmed that she was traveling with
Eloise to San Francisco. At least now, he was at ease.
Eloise glanced at her.“Christopher, huh?”
Rosalind pressed her phone off and nodded. “Yeah.”
“He’s generous, letting you spend so freely.”
“What if the other child comes back with me too?”
Eloise froze in shock.
She hesitated, unsure whether to ask, afraid to touch on Rosalind’s painful truth. After a long pause, she still couldn’t bring herself to ask.
Rosalind felt a sudden wave of sadness.
Even her best friend couldn’t bring herself to believe that Christopher had a child with someone else.
The whole world probably thought her relationship with Christopher was perfect.
But their relationship was like a beautiful, embroidered garment–shiny and elegant on the outside, but eaten through with holes on the inside.
After the plane landed, Eloise dragged her straight to Wesley Hotel and checked into a room.
She jokingly said, “How can you serve the clients well if you don’t experience what they experience first?”
Rosalind considered it and agreed, so she took out her ID to check in. When it came time to pay, she used the bank

She had always been reluctant to use the money in that account, especially after her parents‘ death.
Every memory of them and every item they had left behind had become even more precious.
Eloise laughed. “Why not use Christopher’s card? It’s there to be spent.”
Rosalind replied flatly, “I don’t want to give him an excuse to contact me again.”
On Sunday afternoon, Rosalind bought herself a professional suit and black heels online.
On Monday morning, she donned the clean, sharp attire and headed to the hotel’s 64th–floor office.
There were already many people there for the interview, all gathered in the meeting room, waiting to be called.
As she waited, Rosalind spotted a familiar figure.
