Chapter 28 – The Project Launching 

Lily had been throwing tantrums in the house since she returned from the hospital but today she was awfully cold as she sat down on the couch and stared at the blank television. 

Ever since I hit her and pushed her away yesterday, she suddenly seemed detached and cold toward me. If I knew that was what it took to get her off me, I would have done that a long time 

ago. 

I adjusted my tie and stared at my reflection in the mirror. Today was the launching of my project and I was having mixed feelings. 

This was everything I’ve ever wanted but the woman whom I have realized I truly loved was not by my side to witness it. 

I’ve spent days trying to get her attention but she easily ignored me and rejected all my gifts. My damned brothers wouldn’t still leave her alone, he was all over her and I was starting to think that what they had was real. 

I grabbed my briefcase and turned to Lily, “Better be gone before I return.” 

She didn’t say a word and I found it odd. When I stared into her eyes it was like I was staring at a bottomless pit of abyss. 

‘Are you alright?” I found myself asking. 

She gave me a chilling smile that made my blood freeze. 

‘Why? Are you suddenly concerned about me now?” she asked. 

‘No, I just don’t want you doing anything stupid and implicating me while I’m gone,” I stated. 

She ignored me and I walked out. I went to my office and I was surprised to see the foreigr nvestors were already present. 

‘Mr. Lee, I didn’t expect to see you so soon,” I smiled, extending my hand for a handshake. 

We all shook hands and sat down in the boardroom. My father had also arrived and he was smiling at me proudly. 

‘You didn’t get the woman, son, but at least you secured the bag,” he said to me. 

managed a smile then turned to the three men sitting before me. 

‘The launching doesn’t start till a few hours. Why are you early?” I asked. 

‘We hoped you’d reach out to us,” one of them said. 

I frowned, “Reach out? We were supposed to meet today. We had already concluded all our business.” 

Lee nodded, “True but we only agreed to this project because you got a huge backing from an anonymous investor.” 

I nodded, “Yes and everything is still going according to plan.” 

They exchanged glances that made me nervous and I started fidgeting. 

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

3:31 pm A 

“A few weeks ago the anonymous investor pulled out of the deal and said they weren’t interested again. We expected a call from you but none came except an invite so we came thinking you’d found another investor but it looks like we’re wrong,” Lee answered. 

My breathing slowed for some time as I stared at him with wide eyes. 

“W… what do you mean? What are you saying?” I choked out. 

‘We’re saying we can’t invest and since you have no other investor I guess there’s no launching today,” they said. 

‘No… you can’t do this… I need… dad… Please talk to them,” I lost it. 

They gave me a sympathetic look and left. My father was staring at me with a mixture of anger and pity. 

Who is the mysterious investor?” my father asked. 

I don’t know, Dad,” I cried. 

My secretary came inside looking equally sorry and shocked. 

What is going on? Who is the anonymous investor?” I asked her. 

I have no idea sir but from their report the person pulled out around three weeks ago,” she 

inswered. 

tried not to think about it but deep down I knew who the anonymous investor was. 

Three weeks ago was when Kira was in the hospital and I had walked in on her making that call. She must have instructed her assistant to withdraw the funding. 

Oh no!” I groaned, collapsing to the floor. 

What’s wrong?” my father asked. 

I think the anonymous investor is Kira,” I said. 

My father’s face scrunched up in anger, “Don’t worry, son, I’ll invest in your project.” 

Tears ran down my cheeks as I stared at him helplessly, 

That’s not possible, Dad, I took a loan from the bank as a startup for this project. I used your company as collateral and now I can’t pay back the bank will foreclose on your company.” I explained. 

My father stared at me with shock on his face then he passed out.
