Chapter 27Â
Alone & UnlovedÂ
My eyes were wide as I watched Troy walk away from me.Â
I should have let him leave but I was so heartbroken I didn’t want to keep quiet so I called out toÂ
him.Â
“Don’t pretend like you’re so fucking innocent in this, my father’s money built this hospital,” I snapped.Â
He turned to glare at me before he replied, “And I would give it all back if it would undo what IÂ
did.”Â
I scoffed, “Of course we’d all give it back. If wishes were horses. Given the chance I know you would never give anything back. If at all you’d take it all.”Â
He scoffed and stared at me like he was disgusted.Â
“You’ve just described yourself, Lily, and I’m sorry I ever met someone like you.”Â
Then he left and he didn’t return, not the next day or the day after that.Â
stayed in the hospital for four days and no one visited me. I called Donald numerous times but all my calls went straight to voicemail.Â
Kira didn’t come back to taunt me either, guess she really didn’t want to waste any more time onÂ
When I was finally discharged I went back to the mansion I had been living with Donald. He looked surprised to see me.Â
“What are you doing here?” he asked me.Â
I shrugged, “I live here.”Â
He scoffed, “Not for long. Once Kira comes back you’re leaving.”Â
I chuckled dryly, “You still think after everything you’ve done to her she will return?”Â
He turned to me, his eyes flashing with anger, “Mind your own damn business! Also hurry up and leave my house.”Â
I walked inside. I had nowhere to go except my father’s mansion but before I left the hospital I had received an email that the bank had taken the house due to a loan my father had collected.Â
I was determined to win Donald over. I would bide my time and stay with him for a few days and surely he would come running back to me.Â
I know he’s always loved me and that hasn’t changed. So I went to my bedroom and sorted out all my sexy clothes and started hatching my plan.Â
–Â
Donald hadn’t looked at me in days. Not really. Not the way he used to.Â
He used to brush his fingers along my cheek when he came home, even if Kira was in the nextÂ
room.Â
He used to smile at me like I was the secret only he could have, the treasure hidden in plain sight.Â

I was his everything. His queen. The reason he endured Kira’s dull existence. Now… he couldn’tÂ
even look at me.Â
I sat on the edge of the leather couch, my silk robe pooling around my legs. My nails dug into the armrest as I watched him pace the sitting room like a caged beast.Â
His hair was unkempt, his shirt wrinkled, his tie tossed aside. He had always been so meticulous, so perfectly put together, but Kira had destroyed something in him.Â
All the flowers and letters he had sent to Kira over the past few days lay on the floor all wilted. He had even sent her an invite to his launching that was tomorrow to come as his plus one but she had turned him down.Â
All my efforts to get him close to me had been in vain. The sweet scenting perfumes and sexy outfits I wore were in vain because he wouldn’t even look at me.Â
He was barely at home and when he returned he downed himself in a bottle of alcohol too drunk to speak to me.Â
“Damn it, why is that fucking Damon always with her?!” Donald roared suddenly, slamming his glass against the desk.Â
Amber liquid splashed across the polished wood, dripping down the sides. I flinched, but quickly smoothed my expression.Â
I rose slowly, adjusting my robe, and walked toward him. My voice was soft, honeyed, the same way I’d spoken to him when I first wormed my way into his heart.Â
“Donnie,” I whispered, reaching for his arm, “You have me. That’s all that matters.”Â
I pressed my body gently against his back, sliding my arms around his waist.Â
My cheek brushed his shoulder. For a moment, I imagined it was like before-that he would exhale, his anger would melt, and he would remember that I was his haven.Â
Instead, he went rigid and snapped, “Get away from me.”Â
The words were sharp, cutting, not even shouted-just cold.Â
I froze. My arms loosened, but I didn’t move. “Donnie, I-”Â
His hands shot down, prying my arms off him with brutal force. He spun, eyes bloodshot, face twisted in rage.Â
“I said get away from me!”Â
The slap of his words hurt worse than any hand could have. My throat closed. “Donald, please… I’m trying to help you.”Â
“Help me?” He laughed, but there was no humor, only venom. “You’ve done nothing but drag me down. Look at you. Clinging to me like a leech. Useless.”Â
The word pierced me straight through the chest. I staggered back a step, clutching my robe tighter around me. “No…. no, Donnie, I’ve been here for you. I gave you everything-my loyalty, my body, my-”Â
“Your body?” He sneered. “Do you think that’s worth anything to me now? Do you think I want a whining parasite who can’t even stand on her own two feet? I thought you’d be my partner, Lily. Instead, you’re just dead weight.”Â

Hot tears pricked my eyes. I stumbled forward, falling to my knees before him.Â
My hands clutched at his legs desperately. Pride didn’t matter anymore. I would beg, scream, crawl-whatever it took to make him remember that he loved me once.Â
“Please,” I choked out. “Please don’t push me away. Donnie, I love you. I’ve always loved said I was your only one. Don’t leave me now.”Â
you. YouÂ
I pressed my face into his thigh, sobbing. My tears soaked through his trousers. My heart was ripping itself apart with every breath.Â
“Get off me, Lily.”Â
His voice was colder than ice.Â
I clung tighter, shaking my head. “No. No, no, no. You can’t mean it. You chose me. You chose me over her. You can’t take it back. You can’t!”Â
His hands gripped my shoulders. For a moment, I thought he might finally pull me up, hold me, kiss my forehead like he used to.Â
Instead, he shoved me hard.Â
I flew backward, my body slamming against the edge of the table before crashing to the floor. Pain flared through my back, my head spinning. My hands instinctively flew to my stomach, terror gripping me.Â
I gasped, curling around myself, sobs wracking my body. “Donnie… please… please don’t doÂ
this…”Â
But when I looked up, he wasn’t even watching me. He was already on his phone, dialing Kira’s number for the umpteenth time even though we both knew she’d never answer his call.Â
That was when it dawned on me that I was utterly alone, unloved, and it was all Kira’s fault. I will make her pay this time or die trying.Â
