Chapter 11
Mia didn’t keep me waiting long.
A week later at a charity gala, Director Rhodes brought me along as her living trophy.
The moment we entered the venue, she was swarmed by business partners, leaving me alone.
Soon enough, a server “accidentally” spilled red wine on my dress.
She offered to take me to the changing room, and I agreed.
The second we got inside, she locked the door.
Mia emerged from the corner, her eyes poisonous with hatred.
‘Think you’ve WON just because you latched onto the Rhodes family?”
She glared at me viciously:
‘Kieran and I have been friends since childhood-for YEARS. What makes you think you can compete with
ne?”
‘Poor trash should know their place. You should’ve crawled back to your rat hole ages ago!”
let her rant, curious to see what she’d actually do.
After about five minutes, footsteps echoed outside.
Mia’s expression changed, then she broke into a twisted smile.
She suddenly grabbed a vase and smashed it against her own forehead.
CRASH-
Blood immediately covered her face.
I could only shake my head: “Can’t you come up with something NEW?”
Mia laughed: “I fooled Kieran before, I can fool everyone else now.”
“You’re about to get dragged online!”
She started screaming at the top of her lungs:
“HELP! SOMEBODY HELP!”
“Miss Campbell, please stop hitting me!”
The door burst open to a wall of camera flashes.
Reporters surrounded us, and plenty of people were livestreaming on their phones-obviously they’d been
waiting.
Beyond the crowd, I spotted Director Rhodes standing calmly.
She raised her wine glass to me in a mock toast.
I gave her a faint smile back.
Director Rhodes looked confused, her brow furrowing.
But I ignored her, letting the media photograph me to their hearts’ content.
Soon enough, #Rhodes Heiress Assaults Socialite# was trending at the top of Twitter.
Internet users who didn’t know the truth were easily manipulated by bots, and Mia became the innocent
victim.
I was painted as a scheming homewrecker who’d faked her own death to trap Kieran.
Instantly, the hate poured in.
Tons of people were cursing me out, asking why I didn’t just die in that snow pit.
Some even twisted the facts, bringing fake evidence claiming I’d never had cancer at all.
Then Mia stepped forward, saying she could understand my jealousy and decided not to press charges.
That move instantly won her a wave of praise.
Director Rhodes quickly released a statement distancing herself from me.
I wasn’t surprised at all.
After all, her research had already gained recognition-she didn’t need me as a tool anymore.
More importantly, someone as sharp as her had probably realized I was becoming uncontrollable.
In just half a day, I went from sympathetic figure to public enemy number one.
Chapter 11
The whole world seemed to turn against me.
Only Kieran went crazy trying to find security footage.
But since Mia had chosen to attack in the changing room, she knew there were no cameras there.
The situation seemed impossible to resolve.
But I wasn’t worried at all.
Meanwhile, Kieran burst into my hotel room after midnight, panic written all over his face as he grabbed me
“People online are getting violent, planning to come here and ‘teach you a lesson.’ You need to come with me
NOW.”
I gently pried his fingers off: “Why should I hide?”
Kieran looked frantic: “This isn’t the time to be stubborn! Trust me, I’ll protect you.”
I smiled and turned my tablet toward him.
‘Thanks, but I don’t need your protection.”
The tablet was playing the full video of Mia’s self-harm, crystal clear HD, capturing every expression and word perfectly.
Kieran stared open-mouthed: “You-”
I said casually:
‘If I guessed she was going to come for me, why wouldn’t I be prepared?”
Kieran took a moment to process: “So you deliberately let her make it public? Why?”
I looked at him meaningfully:
‘I needed something that would put her in front of everyone.”
‘But I couldn’t afford to buy trending topics.”
‘Might as well use her own hands to make her disappear completely.”
Kieran’s breathing stuttered as he stared at me in disbelief.
I didn’t care what he thought and hit “send” right in front of him.
