Chapter 9
I settled into my pregnancy peacefully, looking forward to spending the holidays with my family.
Our mutual friends told me that for the first two months after I left, Damon and Chloe were everywhere together, totally shameless about it.
He was telling everyone that Chloe would definitely become Mrs. Blackwell.
Those two months were apparently the happiest time of his life.
But once he randomly tried reaching out to me and couldn’t get through, everything changed.]
He started asking all our mutual friends to contact me, while also becoming a total man–whore.
Besides Chloe, he was hooking up with anyone and everyone–hostesses, dancers, escorts – the whole roster.]
Speaking of which, my friend sent me a video.]
In it, he was drinking with his loser buddies in a private room.]
He was pretty wasted, holding a half–empty glass, talking like he was on top of the world:
“This freedom feels amazing! Ever since Seraphina went overseas, I finally feel like a real man again.-
His friend started trashing me:]
“Seraphina was way too controlling. She wasn’t even your wife yet but treated you like her husband–home by midnight every night, couldn’t even party properlyr
“When she was around, we couldn’t invite you to anything! She was such a buzzkill, always saying no to everything.”
“What kind of man lets his girl control him like that? Talk about pathetic!“]
Damon enthusiastically agreed: “She can’t control me anymore! This is the life I actually want no way I’m letting her boss me around again!“]
I watched the whole video completely unbothered. Felt like I was just watching some random drama.
Thaddeus treated me incredibly well–basically worshipped the ground I walked on. He showed me what it actually felt like to be truly loved.
I was so grateful I’d made the right choice.
Soon after, Thaddeus and I went to my hometown to bring my mom back for the holidays, but we found Damon on his knees in from of her, sobbing and begging:
“Mom, please, I’m begging you to help me. I can’t lose Seraphinal“]
“I don’t care that she’s pregnant. I don’t care the baby isn’t mine! As long as she gets divorced, I’ll treat her right.“||
“After everything we’ve been through all these years, Mom, please – I’m begging you, help me out here.“]
My mom raised her hand to slap him but couldn’t bring herself to do it.]
She scolded him in frustration:[]
“After the way you treated my daughter, I should be coming after you! The fact that I haven’t is me being generous!”
“Don’t ever call me Mom again! Seraphina’s happy now, you’ve got your other woman – just leave each other alone!
He had no idea I’d told my mom everything that happened after I went overseas.
She’d been furious and wanted to confront him, but I stopped her.]
When she found out I’d gotten married, she swallowed her anger, figuring since we’d both moved on, it was better to just let it be.]
When Damon saw me arrive, he launched into another round of pathetic begging.
Of course Thaddeus beat the shit out of him.
He was lying on the ground all bruised and bloody, but his tear–filled eyes were still locked on me,
Still hoping I’d give him another chance.
I looked at him calmly:
“You can’t unbreak what’s broken, Damon. There’s no going back for us.
“Just move forward and live our own lives.“[]
