Chapter 173 If He Can’t Have What He Loves, No One Can 

“I do miss it!” Ethan swirled his glass before downing the wine in one go. “The time we spent in the military was the happiest time of my life. I really hope we can go back. I’d be happy even if you hit me every day!” 

Lena stuck her tongue out cheekily. In Corvessia, only Chloe could make Ethan say he would happily get beaten up by her. 

It was too bad that Chloe was already with Brian. Lena secretly felt sorry for Ethan. 

“Clo, I often think how great it would be if we could go back to those times,” Ethan said while pouring himself another glass. Then, he raised his glass to Chloe. 

Chloe responded by raising hers, and they clinked glasses. 

Ethan continued, intoxicated, “If we could go back to before, I would surely tell you that I have feel-‘ 

“Ethan!” Lena interrupted suddenly. 

“What is it?” Chloe didn’t catch what Ethan said because she was also a little inebriated. 

“Nothing,” Brian said before taking the glass away from Chloe. “Chloe, you’ve drunk quite a bit tonight, so I’ll drink this for you.” 

Then, he shot Ethan a look before downing the wine in one go. 

Ethan stared right back at Brian. Just like that, the air between them became charged. 

“Ethan, you’re drunk too,” Lena said. “Don’t drink too much. I don’t want to carry a drunkard home.” 

Ethan pursed his lips, still looking at Brian. He held the glass so tightly that it started making a sound as if groaning in protest. 

Brian placed the glass down and said to Lena, “Chloe is drunk. I’ll take her home.” 

“Sure, drive safe,” Lena said quickly. If they stayed any longer, Ethan might say something out of line. 

Once Brian and Chloe left, Lena turned to Ethan. “What were you doing? Chloe and Brian are already together. You know that!” 

“Yes, I do!” Ethan smiled bitterly. “I’m just unwilling to accept it. I met Clo long before Brian. If I hadn’t been so worried about everything, if I had just told her about my feelings earlier,

“Ethan, Chloe treats you like a younger brother,” Lena said directly. “I’m warning you. Chloe and Brian are happy together right now. If you come between them, I won’t forgive you!” 

“You won’t forgive me?” Ethan raised an eyebrow lazily. He chuckled mockingly. “What are you going to do about it? Or are you planning to get my uncle to deal with me?” 

Lena stiffened. “Don’t bring your uncle up. I have nothing to do with him anymore!” 

“Nothing to do with him?” Ethan snickered. “Lena, seeing as how we’re friends, let me give you a piece of warning. My uncle is the sentimental type. 

“How sentimental, you ask? My mom told me that when he was young, he loved this toy so much that he took it to bed with him. Even when the toy grew old and worn, he still took it to bed. Later, my grandma tried to throw it away, but he refused.” 

Lena furrowed her brow. 

Ethan continued, “Guess what happened to the toy in the end?” 

“What else? Either it was thrown away, or it was kept.” 

“It was taken apart!” 

“What?” Lena was a little baffled. 

“By the 

way, I forgot to mention that the toy was a little car. My grandmother secretly threw the car into the bin. My uncle didn’t cry or make a fuss. While the adults weren’t paying attention, he went out and looked for it in the trash.” 

Lena couldn’t believe her ears. A guy like Thomas had rummaged through trash? She found it hard to imagine. 

“Did he find it in the end?” Her curiosity was piqued. 

“Of course not. But the adults found out about it and gave him an earful. Despite that, he insisted on looking for it. He told the adults that if he couldn’t find it that day, he would go through the trash every single day until he found it.” 

“How stubborn,” Lena commented. 

“So, in the end, the entire family helped him look for it and found it. But even after they cleaned the toy, the wheels were broken, and it could no longer move. So, my uncle took the car apart.” 

“Why? Does he like taking things apart?” Lena asked.

“No. That was the only toy he ever took apart. When the adults asked him why he did that, he said that he didn’t want to let others play with his toys. He just liked it too much to share.” 

The hair on the back of Lena’s neck stood up. 

Ethan gave her a mysterious smile. “You’re the only girlfriend he’s ever acknowledged. Whatever he loves, even after it’s ruined, it’s off–limits to everyone else!” 

Lena’s mouth twitched. “You’re joking. Thomas doesn’t like me that much. I was the one who pursued him stubbornly until he agreed to go out with me.” 

Ethan swirled the glass in his hand. 

Thomas was a cold–blooded animal. He wouldn’t be easily influenced by a shameless woman. If he were that type of man, he would have already had multiple girlfriends! 

Ethan didn’t need to tell Lena about it. After all, he’d already warned her. 

“By the way, if I get drunk, don’t forget to take me home!” Ethan said while pouring himself a large glass, gulping it down. 

Lena sighed. “Alright. Drink up. I’ll take you home!” 

It looked like Ethan wanted to drink his sorrows away. Who was she to stop him? After all, when she broke up with Thomas all those years ago, she had done the same thing. 

Curtis returned to his villa dejectedly. He’d bought the villa after he got rich. 

After the divorce from Chloe, she’d taken away all of her belongings, except for the cheap wedding rings. Yet, even those were gone now. 

“Curtis, you’re finally home. Come have a look at the blind dates I’ve set up for you. All these women are much better than Sonya!” Helen brought a stack of documents to Curtis. 

“Yes, Curtis. Mom has spent a huge fortune to get them. Don’t let her efforts go to waste,” Joanne chimed in. 

Curtis looked at the documents with a grim expression. “A huge fortune? Do you even realize that the company is on the verge of collapse? Yet you’re still spending money on things like this? Are you trying to watch me fall apart?”
