Chapter 167 The Truth About the Fire at Cloudrion’s Border 

After that, another figure walked over. This time, it was clearly a man. Chloe guessed that it must be Bernard. 

In the footage, Sonya had clearly flicked the cigarette away without snubbing it out first. What followed next was a spark of flame. But then, the drone moved away. 

This was the only footage showing Sonya and Bernard’s involvement in the fire, but it was more than enough for Chloe. 

She glared at the screen, watching Sonya throw away her cigarette butt, her eyes reddening. 

If Sonya hadn’t so casually thrown away the cigarette, the fire wouldn’t have started. No one would have died or been hurt. Daniel wouldn’t have gone missing either. 

It really was Sonya’s fault. 

Chloe clenched her fists so hard that her knuckles cracked. She had never loathed someone so 

deeply before–not even when Sonya had pretended to be the one who saved Curtis’s life. 

Even when Sonya had ruined her marriage, Chloe had never hated her. She’d merely resented her. After all, she knew clearly that Curtis was the one who destroyed their marriage. 

However, at that moment, a raging hatred overwhelmed her. It took everything she had to 

control herself. 

She took her phone out and called Brian. “Could you help me find out where Sonya is right now?” 

“Of course,” Brian replied quickly. “Why do you sound like that? Are you unwell?” 

“No. I found out who started the fire at the border,” she said through gritted teeth. 

“Sonya?” 

“Yes, it was her! If she hadn’t started the fire, Daniel wouldn’t have gone missing. If anything happened to him…” Chloe choked. She couldn’t bear to think about it. “I’ll never forgive Sonya. I want to make her pay!” 

“Okay,” Brian replied. “No matter what you do, I’ll support you. Wait to hear from me.” 

After the call, Chloe took a deep breath and looked at the screen showing Sonya throwing the cigarette away once more. 

Her heart beat painfully. How could she possibly not hate Sonya?

When Sonya and Curtis came out of the hospital, Sonya was smiling cheerfully. 

“Is everything alright with your health?” Curtis asked. Sonya had gone to the gynecology department, so he was embarrassed to ask about the details. 

“It’s all good. I’m just happy!” Sonya said. 

The hospital had confirmed that she was pregnant. Now that she was bearing Curtis’s child, she had an extra layer of protection. Even if Curtis found out about the truth in the future, he would surely forgive her because of the child. Besides, he loved her. 

As for Peter, she was going to teach him an unforgettable lesson. Her eyes gleamed viciously at that thought. 

“You’re happy?” Curtis was confused. Just as he was about to clarify, a car suddenly stopped right in front of them. 

A few men got out of the car. “Sonya Miller, Mr. Steele would like to see you!” 

Curtis furrowed his brow. “Why?” 

That man clearly had no intention of answering Curtis. With a wave of his hand, two burly men immediately grabbed Sonya and put her in the car. 

“Curtis!” Sonya yelled. 

Curtis shouted, “What the hell are you doing? Kidnapping in bright daylight—” 

Before he could finish his sentence, he was also thrown into the car. Then, the car sped away 

from the hospital. 

Chloe stood by the riverbank, watching the water flow. 

She’d rescued Curtis here once. Back then, she’d never imagined that her life would end up so entangled with his. 

At the same time, she’d never thought that Curtis would mistake Sonya for her. Since everything had started there, she’d chosen to meet Sonya at the same river. 

“Do whatever you want to Sonya, I’ll be here to help you and take the fall, no matter what,” 

Brian said from beside Chloe. 

She turned to look at him. “Even if I want to take her life?” 

“If you want to do it, I’ll be the knife in your hand,” he replied without any hesitation. 

Chloe pursed her lips. Right at that moment, her phone rang with a call from Ethan.

She answered the call to hear Ethan say, “Hey, Clo, where are you? There’s something interesting I’d like to show you.” 

“I’m by the riverbank,” Chloe replied. 

“The riverbank?” 

“Yes, I’m about to see Sonya. There’s something I need to ask her,” Chloe said. 

“What a coincidence. The thing I want to show you is related to her as well. I’ll come over right away.” With that, Ethan ended the call. 

“What is it? Is Ethan coming over too?” Brian asked. 

“Yes. He wants to show me something, and apparently, it’s linked to Sonya too,” Chloe said. 

At that moment, a car came to a stop in front of them. The bodyguards got out of the car and dragged Sonya and Curtis out. 

Curtis looked grim. He’d clearly been beaten up. When he spotted Chloe, he barked at her, ” Chloe, did you get Brian to bring us over? Just because I divorced you, you’re doing this to humiliate me?” 

“Curtis Green, I have no interest in humiliating you!” Chloe looked straight at Sonya while her chest heaved, anger festering in her. 

Brian frowned and ordered his subordinates, “Didn’t I order you to just bring Sonya here? Why did you bring him too?” 

A bodyguard immediately replied, “He was with Sonya. I was afraid it would cause more trouble, so I brought him as well.” 

“Chloe, you’re a law–abiding citizen, aren’t you? Don’t you know that kidnapping is a crime? I could sue you!” Sonya bellowed. 

“A crime?” Chloe walked over to her, her fists clenched tightly as if she were trying to contain her anger. 

“What about you? How many crimes have you committed? Sonya, you threw the cigarette that started the fire at the border. How many people have you killed?”
