Chapter 154 The One Who Got Dumped
As Lena pulled him along, Ethan felt like a thief for the first time in his life, sneaking and darting across the road toward the low–budget motel.
“What exactly are you trying to do?” Ethan muttered with a frown.
In Corvessia, he’d gone wherever he pleased without a second thought. Moving in such a furtive, disreputable way was entirely foreign to him.
“Keep your voice down! Don’t draw attention to us!” Lena hissed.
Ethan rolled his eyes. Did she really think this was less conspicuous? But her next words cut through his annoyance and captured his full attention.
“I just saw Sonya go into that motel with a man,” Lena said. “It looked suspicious, so let’s go inside and see what’s happening.”
Her instincts told her something shady was definitely going on between Sonya and that man.
“Sonya?” Ethan narrowed his eyes. He couldn’t stand that woman, and if this was a chance to dig up more dirt on her, why not take it?
The two quickly agreed and hurried toward the motel.
Not far away, a car idled at a red light. The passenger suddenly spoke up. “Hey, Thomas, isn’t that your little tyrant walking with a woman? Did he find himself a new girlfriend?”
From the back seat, Thomas lifted his eyes toward the window. In the next instant, his pupils contracted sharply as his gaze locked onto the woman beside Ethan.
Even from behind, he could recognize that it was Lena.
“Wait. Why are they going into a motel? If that little tyrant wants a room with a woman, shouldn’t he be booking a five–star hotel?” the man in the front seat asked in surprise.
Thomas‘ voice suddenly turned cold. “Turn around and pull over.”
“What?” The man was stunned. “Ethan found a woman. As his uncle, do you really need to interfere this much?”
Thomas‘
eyes darkened, a chill settling over his expression. “Did you not hear what I just said?
The man glanced at his friend through the rearview mirror. Thomas‘ striking features were clouded with gloom, as though he’d just lost a major lawsuit.
No. That wasn’t right. Thomas had never lost a case in his entire career.

As Thomas‘ longtime friend, Luther Rhodes had only seen him look this terrible once before- years ago, when his ex–girlfriend broke up with him over the phone.
Back then, Thomas‘ face had darkened to something almost terrifying, and after that…
A shiver crept down Luther’s spine at the memory. Who would have thought that such a composed, refined man could become so frightening when he lost control?
The driver pulled over, and Thomas stepped out, heading straight for the small motel.
Luther trailed after him, muttering, “You’re not seriously planning to catch Ethan, are you? He’s a grown man. Still… that woman who went in with him looks awfully familiar. I swear I’ve seen her before–wait! She looks just like your ex–girlfriend.”
Luther’s voice faltered, dying in his throat.
A chilling coldness radiated from Thomas.
Luther’s breath caught. No way. Was it really her?
Back then, when Thomas was dating that woman, everyone thought it was only a matter of
time before he left her.
After all, Thomas was the heir to a prestigious family of lawyers and the head of Corvessia’s largest law firm, and he hardly seemed a match for a small–town woman with such limited experience of the world.
But the surprising twist was that she was the one who ended things first!
What was more, Thomas hadn’t dated anyone since the breakup.
Those in their circle who knew about the relationship quietly speculated about the situation.
Could it be that Thomas still wasn’t over her?
And yet, he’d never once spoken of his ex in all those years. Whenever her name came up, he wore an expression of complete indifference.
It was enough to convince Luther that she’d been nothing more than a fleeting chapter in Thomas‘ past.
Now, however, it was clear that she’d never been insignificant at all.
…
Meanwhile, Sonya followed Peter into a dimly lit, run–down motel room.
Disgust flashed across her face. If it weren’t for Curtis sending Peter to investigate his near- drowning incident years ago and whether she’d rescued him, she wouldn’t be trapped here now, forced to meet him in secret in such a shabby motel.
“What do you want to talk about?” Sonya asked impatiently.
Peter’s lips curved into a sly smile. “Why, we need to discuss the final payment. You promised to give me the balance once you married Curtis. But considering your current precarious
reputation, whether that marriage will happen is very much in doubt. I think it would be wiser for you to settle the final balance sooner rather than later.”
“What?” Sonya gasped. The final payment? He wanted 49.5 million? How was she supposed to come up with that kind of money on the spot?
Besides, she’d only been placating him back then. She’d never truly intended to give him the
money.
Once Curtis married her, it wouldn’t matter whether she was his savior or not. Even if Peter revealed the truth then, she was confident she could still salvage the marriage.
The problem was that she and Curtis weren’t married yet, and she absolutely couldn’t let him discover the truth now.
“I’m not Mrs. Green yet! Where am I supposed to get that kind of money?” Sonya snapped, struggling to keep her temper in check.
“But you’re still a young lady of the Miller family,” Peter pressed. “If you really want money, you’ll find a way. I’ll give you one month.
“If you don’t pay the final installment, I’ll tell Curtis the truth that you aren’t his savior and that you’ve been lying to him all along. When that happens, you won’t stand a chance of becoming Mrs. Green!”
Sonya bit her lip, fury bubbling up within her. As Peter had said, the Greens didn’t want her to be with Curtis. And if he found out she hadn’t saved him, he would cast her aside without a second thought.
That couldn’t happen… Not yet.
For now, she had to keep Peter quiet and figure out a plan.
“Fine, I promise you. But no one else can ever know about this transaction between us!” Sonya said firmly.
“Of course!” Peter replied, a triumphant grin spreading across his face.
Meanwhile, in the room next door, Lena pressed her ear to the wall. She even held a glass cup against it, hoping to amplify the sound and catch their conversation. After straining to listen for what felt like ages, she still couldn’t make out a single word.
“Is the soundproofing in this cheap motel really that good?” Lena wondered in frustration.

“You dragged me all the way here just to listen to walls?” Ethan asked, clearly annoyed.
“I just wanted to hear what they were saying!” Lena protested. She’d even bribed the front desk to find out which room Sonya and the man had gone into.
Ethan looked disgusted. “We could listen all day and still hear nothing. Honestly, I say we just kick down the door and see what that Sonya
“That would alert them!” Lena protested.
is up
to!”
Just then, a knock sounded at the door. Ethan and Lena exchanged tense glances.
Finally, Lena said, “I’ll check.”
But when she reached the door and cautiously opened it just a crack, she was horrified to see Thomas, the last person she wanted to see.
