Chapter 144 I’ll Forgive You
“If one already knows that what they’re about to do is wrong, then isn’t it just better not to do it?” Chloe asked.
“But what if they’ve already done it? What if… the person didn’t even know that what they were doing was wrong before they did it?” Brian asked uneasily.
“Chloe, I wasn’t a good person before I met you. I didn’t care about anything or anyone. But…” After a brief pause, he continued, “But I’ll be a good person from now on. So, can you please. forgive me no matter what I’ve done in the past?”
Chloe gazed at Brian. His face was filled with uneasiness and anxiety—the latter being a rare
sight.
It seemed like her response was of the utmost importance to him.
She pursed her lips before saying, “As long as what you did in the past isn’t treasonous, doesn’t go against our nation’s spirit, or isn’t anything grave and terrible, then I’d forgive you even if you really made a mistake.”
After all, Chloe knew that a man like Brian was bound to have a complicated past. She hadn’t
ever come across this side of him either.
To Brian, Chloe’s answer felt like a gift from the heavens. His arms tightened around her as he said, “Thank you, Chloe… Thank you for agreeing to forgive me.”
As long as he helped Chloe find Daniel, she would forgive him even if she found out about the truth one day.
If he’d known that he’d fall in love with someone like Chloe, he would’ve chosen to be a
virtuous and compassionate man from the start.
Chloe had all the items from her parents‘ house moved to her place in the city over the course of the next few days.
When she walked out of her home in Yarfdale, she glanced at the building and prayed that
Daniel would be with her the next time she returned to this place.
Chloe then took Ethan to some famous tourist sites in Yarfdale. Brian insisted on tagging along too.
“Oh? Does the heir of the Steele family have so much free time on his hands? Don’t you need to deal with your company? Why are you following us all the time?” Ethan sneered from the backseat of the car.

“I’m still much better than you, aren’t I? You disregarded your duties at the law firm and chose to come to Yarfdale for fun!” Brian snapped back.
“How dare you bring up the law firm, you bastard? You’re the one responsible for the shit it’s going through right now!” Ethan glared at Brian.
“If you can’t even handle such a trivial matter, then I think it’s best you shut the firm down right away,” Brian responded.
While Brian and Ethan went at each other, Chloe continued driving on toward the next tourist
site.
Brian and Ethan had both offered to drive at first, but they’d then also insisted that Chloe sit in the front passenger seat. So, she’d chosen to have them sit in the backseat while she drove. That way she’d have to suffer fewer arguments from the two of them.
The car drove to Yarfdale’s heritage site, where the ruins of an ancient building were. Only a wall remained, and it had now become a tourist destination.
Brian, Ethan, and Chloe got out of the car.
“There’s a wishing tree here where many people come to make wishes underneath. I heard it’s quite effective in granting them,” Chloe said.
Both Brian’s and Ethan’s expressions shifted, as if they’d suddenly thought of something.
“Let’s go!” Chloe called out and marched toward the ruins.
Brian and Ethan glanced at one another before going after her.
Once they finished touring around the wall ruins, they went to the wishing tree.
Chloe stood beneath its bough and crossed her fingers together before closing her eyes to
make a wish.
If this tree could really grant wishes, then Chloe wished she would find Daniel soon!
Meanwhile, Ethan gazed up at the huge, ancient tree and wondered if his wish would actually be granted. If he made a wish for him and Chloe to be together one day, would it really come true?
He then smiled bitterly. What was he thinking? He’d never believed in such fairytale things.
His gaze landed on Chloe, who still had her eyes shut. Why had she developed romantic feelings for Brian, yet she’d always treated Ethan as nothing more than a younger brother?
What did Brian have that he didn’t?
Ethan glanced at Brian through his peripheral view.
Chapter 144 Forgive You
Brian was standing right beside Chloe with his hands clasped together. He seemed really earnest and devoted as he made a wish.
Ethan was surprised. Did Brian believe in such things? He hadn’t been able to tell at all!
Chloe opened her eyes a moment later. She turned around and happened to meet Brian’s gaze.
“Were you making a wish too?” Chloe asked curiously. After all, someone like Brian should’ve been able to get whatever he wanted. He shouldn’t have needed to wish for it to happen.
Brian tenderly gazed at Chloe and said, “I wished for us to live together for the rest of our
lives.”
Chloe was stunned. Meanwhile, Ethan’s brows knitted together in response.
“You two have only barely started dating, yet you already think you can end up spending the rest of your lives together?”
Brian ignored Ethan’s jab as he continued looking at Chloe. “Chloe is the only person I want to spend the rest of my life with. There has never been anyone else nor will there ever be.”
“That’s easy for you to say!” Ethan scoffed. “Humans are fickle creatures. You’ve only known Chloe for mere months, yet here you’re saying you’ll never be with anyone else besides her? What if you break up with Chloe one day? Will you never date anyone else again?”
Brian was calm as he said, “Yes, there’ll never be anyone else for me. Besides, Chloe and I would never break up!”
He was especially determined when he said that last sentence. After all, if they did break up, every single day of his life would be living hell.
Ethan was about to say something else when Chloe cut him off. “That’s enough. We’ve done enough sightseeing today. You should head on home now, Ethan. I’ll be returning to Corvessia in the next few days, so if you’re still going to linger in Yarfdale…”
“You’re going back to Corvessia?” Ethan asked.
“Yeah, I’ve pretty much settled everything I needed to settle here in Yarfdale. I’ll be heading back to Quall Manor to visit my great–uncle tomorrow and then prepare for my return to Corvessia,” Chloe said.
“Well, good! I’ll go back with you!” Ethan immediately replied.
While Brian and Chloe were in their bedroom that night, Brian said, “I’ll go back to Corvessia with you too.”
“But your work-”
“I’ve already completed the necessary negotiations for the island development project here in

Yarfdale. The local branch manager can deal with the rest,” Brian said,
Brian didn’t want to be separated from Chloe. He was worried that things might easily go wrong if they were apart.
Plus, Chloe’s feelings for him were only at the level of “like” right now. This was far from enough for Brian. He wanted her to hurry up and fall in love with him.
“By the way, I’ll be seeing Great–Uncle Geoffrey tomorrow. He once told me he wanted to see what Daniel looked like, so I’ll be showing him some of the photos you gave me before,” Chloe
said.
“Okay,” Brian said.
The next day, Brian accompanied Chloe to Quall Manor. Due to Geoffrey’s ill health, Brian remained in the living room while Chloe went to see Geoffrey in his bedroom.
The moment Chloe entered the bedroom, she saw Willow tending to Geoffrey at his bedside. Willow’s expression immediately shifted when she saw Chloe.
