Chapter 143 Nothing But A Fool
Chloe’s cold gaze made Willow fly into a fit of rage.
“You’re only jinxing yourself with that statement! One day, Brian will leave you, and you’ll end up just like me!” Willow yelled.
Before Chloe could respond, Brian’s voice rang out. “That day will never come. If you ever say such things to Chloe again, don’t blame me for making sure you never step foot in Yarfdale ever again.”
Willow’s expression shifted when she noticed Brian, who’d suddenly appeared in the hallway, as well as Ethan, who stood right behind him.
Fear flashed in her eyes, but it quickly turned into envy.
Why was Brian defending Chloe? She’d never sacrificed anything for him before!
“What’s so good about a divorcee like Chloe? What could she ever do for you? Would she sacrifice an eye for you? Or sacrifice something else? No, she won’t! She’d never willingly make sacrifices for you like I would!” Willow cried at Brian.
Brian sneered. “I don’t need Chloe to sacrifice anything for me. And so what if she’s a divorcee? I’m just grateful she’s divorced–it gave me a chance to be with her. As for you…”
He paused briefly, the disdain clear in his eyes. He then said, “You and I both know that you didn’t lose your eye because you were ‘making sacrifices‘ for me. You only lost it because you weren’t able to fight back and escape.”
Panicked, Willow tried to explain herself, “No! I wouldn’t have left you behind even if I’d been.
able to escape-
“Would you have stayed behind? Didn’t I call out to you asking you to not leave at the time? Yet you scrambled to leave anyway, didn’t you?” Brian said.
Willow was at a loss for words. A look of pain then appeared on her face. “I was still young and foolish at the time. But my feelings for you were real. I love you, Brian.”
All she wanted to do was to try and mend her relationship with Brian. She didn’t care that
Chloe was there too.
“You love me?” Brian sneered.
“Yes, I love you. I’ve had feelings for you since I first met you when we were kids. I’ve loved you for so many years, Brian. How could Chloe ever compare to me?” Willow cried angrily.
Brian’s gaze was indifferent. “Your feelings for me may be real, but you still abandoned me

when things went wrong, Chloe is completely different from you. You could never hold a
candle to her!”

His gaze grew tender as he turned to Chloe while speaking. It was very different from the way
he’d looked at Willow.
“Let’s go back to our private room first. Our food must be getting cold by now,” Brian said.
Chloe glanced at Willow with her ashen face before nodding. She then glanced at Ethan who was leaning against a nearby wall. “What about you?”
“I’m going to go to the restroom first,” he drawled out.
Chloe said nothing else and returned to the private room with Brian.
Meanwhile, Ethan went up to Willow instead of heading to the men’s restroom.
“W–what are you doing?” Uneasiness flared in Willow’s eyes as she felt an incredibly domineering air coming off of Ethan. She instinctively took several steps backward.
Ethan smiled and suddenly pinched Willow’s cheek. “You were the one who made things difficult for Chloe when she went to the Quall Family Memorial Hall. You stopped her from going in.
“You lost an eye because of Brian Steele, didn’t you?”
Ethan’s sarcastic tone and venomous words made goosebumps break out on Willow’s skin. His finger inched toward her eye, making it seem like he might poke at it
any second.
“Then would you believe me if I told you this? If you ever dare to insult Chloe again, you’ll lose your only good eye too!” Ethan said. His grip around Willow’s cheek tightened, and his finger seemed to be about to stab right into her eye.
Fear flooded Willow’s eyes. “You… You’ll go to jail if you do that!”
“Oh? Let’s try and see what happens first, shall we? You losing your eye or me going to prison,
“Ethan retorted.
Even Willow’s teeth were chattering in fear by now. Ethan was more insane than Brian!
“P–please have mercy on me. I–I won’t insult Chloe ever a–again…” Willow caved in and begged Ethan for mercy. After all, she could tell that he wasn’t simply bluffing. He would actually act on his threats.
Only then did Ethan let go of Willow. He went over to the basin to wash his hands, as if disgusted after touching her cheek. “Let’s hope you never forget what you promised me today, Willow Quall.”
Willow angrily ground her teeth before scrambling back to the private room her friends were

- in.
But the moment she opened up the door, she saw that her friends were no longer warm and welcoming toward her. In fact, they all gazed at her mockingly.
They all chimed in one after the other.
“So Willow no longer has Brian as her backer, huh?”
“Here I was wondering why you’ve been spending the past few days with us. Do Quall Group employees have so much free time? But turns out it was all because you lost your influence and support.”
“That was why you were so busy trying to whip up that project of yours. Were you trying to use us for support? You sure had it all planned out!”
A woman stood up from among them and went over to Willow. “My apologies, Willow. I happened to hear your conversation with Brian earlier in the restroom hallway, so I came back here and shared it with everyone else. Why didn’t you tell us about this earlier?”
Willow gazed at the woman, Dakota–her best friend. Dakota usually treated her with great importance and care.
“Dakota, I-” Willow tried to speak.
But before she could finish talking, Dakota grabbed a bottle of wine from the table and poured its contents right on Willow’s head.
Willow was shocked. She then heard Dakota say, “We wouldn’t have kept kissing your ass if you’d told us earlier!”
“You… What did you just say?” Willow stared at her in disbelief.
“Why do you think we’ve been hanging out with you, Willow?” Dakota scoffed.
“You don’t really believe that you have what it takes to gain that much influence in our circle, do you? You’re an illegitimate child, after all.
“We were just being respectful to you on account of Brian Steele supporting you. Sadly, he’s already cut all ties with you. How bold can you be to still be hanging out with us?”
Laughter echoed around Willow.
Wine drenched her hair as she stood there, utterly disheveled. She’d been reduced to nothing but a fool in the eyes of these people whom she used to call friends!
Chloe carefully examined Brian’s still–swollen cheek as well as his split lip. She then examined his inner cheek and teeth. Ethan hadn’t held back at all when he’d punched Brian.

“From now on, don’t just stand there and let yourself get punched no matter who the assailant is. At least try and dodge it,” Chloe said.
“Okay,” Brian answered. “But I’d never dodge if you were the one hitting me. I’d let you punch me as you please.”
Chloe chuckled. “Why would I ever punch you?”
“Maybe if I made a mistake?” Brian said hesitantly.
Chloe raised an eyebrow. “Like what?”
Brian blinked several times. How could he elaborate any further?
“Chloe!” He suddenly wrapped his arms around her. Due to their positions—with him sitting while she was standing–Brian’s face naturally pressed into her abdomen.
“If I ever make a mistake in the future and you get angry because of it, you can hit me or yell at me or do anything you want to me. Just please don’t leave me, okay?” Brian said in a pleading tone.
