Chapter 127 Evidence of Neglect
A distorted voice crackled through the phone, altered by a voice changer.
“Murderer… Sonya, you’re a murderer. Do you really think no one will ever find out what you did? Plenty of people know. I’m going to release the evidence at the studio right now. Soon, everyone will see that you’re
no hero.”
Sonya’s hand shook violently, nearly dropping the phone.
“Who is this? I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“It doesn’t matter whether you understand or not. What matters is that everyone will soon see your true
colors.” The line went dead..
Panic surged through Sonya. What if they really had evidence?
No! She couldn’t let anyone take it to the studio.
With that thought, she bolted from the dressing room. But the moment she rushed out, a baseball bat swung down, striking her hard on the head.
Sonya staggered forward and tumbled to the ground. As she fell, she desperately tried to turn around to cry out for help and see who’d hit her.
Just before losing consciousness, she caught only a blurry glimpse of a terrifying, grotesque mask.
During the talk show’s break, Brian approached Chloe. “Once this show airs, everyone will know we’re dating. Do you have any regrets?”
“Why would I have any?” she replied with a smile. She’d never intended to hide their relationship. “Or are you the one who doesn’t want it to be public?”
“How could you even think that?” Brian immediately denied it.
He was eager for everyone to know about his relationship with Chloe. He wanted to make it clear that she’d chosen him, leaving no room for any other man.
Most of all, he wanted Ethan to know.
In his mind, Ethan had always been the biggest threat. Ethan had known Chloe long before Brian met her, and they’d also served in the military together. To Chloe, Ethan was a comrade she could trust with her life in dangerous situations.
The presence of a man like that made it impossible for Brian to feel at ease. That was all the more reason why he felt the need to leave his own mark on her.
He’d come to the show knowing the producers wouldn’t pass–up a hot topic and would surely ask about

his relationship with Chloe.
But he hadn’t been able to predict how she would respond.
She probably had no idea how thrilled he’d been when she hadn’t hesitated to confirm that they were.
dating.
Brian leaned in and whispered in her ear, “Chloe, I’m so happy you made our relationship public.”
Chloe felt her ears burn as all eyes seemed to settle on her.
Suddenly, Curtis rushed over and confronted her. “Where did you take Sonya?”
“What?” Chloe was taken aback.
Brian straightened, his expression cold as he stared at Curtis.

As Curtis stepped closer, ready to press Chloe for answers, Brian blocked him firmly. “What, do you want
your other hand to be broken too?”
Curtis shivered and took a step back, though the glare he shot at Chloe remained venomous. “You’d
better hand Sonya over now!”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Chloe said, irritation creeping into her tone. “I’ve been on set
the entire time. I don’t have some magical twin who went off to kidnap Sonya.”
“You were on set, but couldn’t you have hired someone else to do it?” Curtis shot back, holding up his
phone.
“This is Sonya’s phone. It was found at the door to her dressing room, but she’s nowhere to be found!
The last call she received was from an unknown number, and when I tried calling it back, no one
answered!
“Chloe, no matter how much you dislike Sonya, that doesn’t give you the right to kidnap her. You’d better
bring her back immediately!”
As he spoke, he didn’t fail to glare sharply at Chloe.
“You should be calling the police, not blaming me,” Chloe said coldly. “And if you accuse me of kidnapping Sonya without any proof, I can sue you for defamation. Besides, you say I hate Sonya, but
what reason would I have to hate her?”
“You obviously hate her because-”
Chloe cut him off. “For being a mistress and interfering in our marriage? Or for causing our divorce? Or maybe for the fact that during our marriage, you made me pay for your living expenses and gave me a wedding ring worth only 200 dollars from a street vendor while showering Sonya with 50 million dollars‘ worth of jewelry?”
At her words, everyone in the room widened their eyes.

Those who hadn’t known the full story between Chloe and Curtis now looked at him as if he were a
heartless scoundrel.
So it turned out that the firefighter hero’s fiance wasn’t a good person at all, and the hero herself, who was also a captain, turned out to be a homewrecker!
“Curtis, I don’t hate Sonya.” Chloe’s voice rang out. “Hatred is too strong an emotion, and Sonya isn’t worth feeling that way about. But I do owe her thanks. She helped me see the kind of person you truly are, and she gave me the clarity to finally end our three–year marriage.”
Curtis‘ face twisted with humiliation. “Then who in Yarfdale would want to kidnap her? Who would go
after her? There’s no one but you!”
In his mind, only Chloe could have a reason to confront Sonya.
And now, with Brian at her side, it made sense to him that someone might act on her behalf as soon as
she had the idea.
“Who knows? You can report it to the police and let them handle the investigation properly,” Chloe replied.
Just then, the screen at the front of the studio flickered, and the screensaver disappeared, replaced by a chaotic scene of what looked like an abandoned factory.
What shocked everyone even more was the figure on the screen.
It was Sonya.
She was tied up and lay on the dusty floor.
Suddenly, a hand shot into view and slapped her cheek hard, jolting her awake.
Her eyes were blurry at first, but then they filled with terror as she screamed, “Who are you? Why did you bring me here? Let me go!”
The kidnapper stepped into the frame. He had a slender physique and wasn’t very tall, but it was clearly a man wearing a mask.
“Of course I’m here to take your life!” The kidnapper’s voice was deliberately distorted. “So you were a hero during the fire, huh? How impressive. “A murderer who leaves people to die is hailed as a hero. How utterly ridiculous!”
Sonya struggled desperately against the ropes, but they were tied too tightly. All she could do was shout,” I’m not a murderer! This… There must be some kind of misunderstanding!”
“A misunderstanding?” The kidnapper scoffed, then suddenly played a recording. “Don’t… don’t go…
Sonya, hurry! Hurry and get the fire extinguisher. I’m on fire! Hurry… hurry…”
Amidst the crackling static, a hoarse male voice screamed in agony.
Upon hearing it, Sonya’s face instantly turned pale.
