Chloe froze, her gaze fixed on Brian.
One of her hands rested beside him, while the other had reached over to pull up the blanket, leaving her upper body stretched over him. The position made it look as though he was lying beneath her, with her on
top of him.
He tilted his head slightly, his thin lips parting. The usual sternness in his expression had melted away, replaced by an irresistible charm that made him look far too tempting.
“Chloe, are you really not going to do anything to me?”
This man… He had to be doing it on purpose!
Chloe raised an eyebrow. She rarely saw this side of Brian, and the novelty of it caught her off guard.
“You really want me to do something to you?” Her fingers traced lightly along his neck, pausing on his Adam’s apple.
His lips parted, and his Adam’s apple bobbed beneath her touch. Even the tips of his ears flushed faintly
red.
Chloe was a little taken aback. Brian, who was usually so proud and aloof that he seemed utterly
untouchable, was now beneath her, completely at her mercy.
It was as though she could command both his emotions and his body with the simplest gesture.
“You can do anything you want to me,” Brian murmured.
Just the slightest touch from her sent him reeling with delight. He craved more of her, longed for her
desire, and yearned for her to like him, to love him, even more.
For a moment, Chloe couldn’t look away from his face.
His lashes quivered as he slowly lifted his gaze. His dark eyes brimmed with longing and unspoken
affection. “Chloe, are you going to do something to me?”
His lips, soft and glistening, seemed impossibly inviting.
Yes, she wanted to do something to Brian.
Lowering her head, Chloe pressed her lips to his.
His long lashes fluttered once more before his eyes closed. He leaned into the kiss, eager to please her, desperate for her to give him more.
When the kiss ended, Brian’s eyes shimmered with emotion, as though he couldn’t help but want more.
“Alright, go to sleep,” Chloe said with a deep breath as she pulled the blanket over them and lay down

“What?” Brian blinked in disbelief.
That was it? Just a kiss and nothing more?
Was that really all the effect he had on her?
“Is it because I’m not attractive enough? Or did I do something wrong just now?” he asked, unease creeping into his voice.
Chloe’s lack of enthusiasm made him restless.
“No, of course not. You’re very attractive, and you didn’t do anything wrong.” Chloe reassured him.
If he wasn’t attractive, she wouldn’t have kissed him in the first place.
“Then why did you stop?” he pressed.
Chloe looked at Brian, who now seemed more like a nervous bride, and said softly, “Because it wouldn’t
be fair to you.”
His brows furrowed in confusion.
She explained, “I like you, but I’m not yet sure if I love you.”
She knew his feelings for her were genuine, and that was exactly why she didn’t want to succumb to desire while she was still uncertain of her own feelings.
Brian looked at Chloe, struck by how honest she was even in her vulnerability.
For her, simply liking someone wasn’t enough. She would only give herself fully once she was in love.
“Okay, I’ll wait,” he said softly, lifting her hand and pressing a kiss to her palm.
His cool lips grazed her warm skin with a hunger he tried to restrain. “Chloe, I’ll wait until you fall in love
with me.”
He would wait patiently until the day she truly loved him and couldn’t bear to be without him.
He was willing to do anything to make it happen.
A sudden warmth spread through Chloe’s palm from his kiss, and even her heartbeat quickened. That night, Brian held her hand until he drifted off to sleep. Chloe, however, remained restless, her thoughts circling around him. She didn’t fall asleep until the early hours of the morning.
The next day, Chloe dragged herself out of bed and headed to the bathroom, her mind still hazy.
When she opened the door, she found Brian standing with his back to her, just about to slip on his
bathrobe.
He’d clearly just showered, and droplets of water still clung to his hair.

“Sorry, I didn’t realize anyone was here!” Chloe blurted, instinctively stepping back and starting to close
the door.
“Is it ugly?” Brian’s voice broke the silence.
“What?” Chloe froze, not sure what he meant.
“Are the scars on my back ugly?” he asked, keeping the robe off so his back remained fully exposed to her.
The crisscrossing scars, though faded with time, still bore the unmistakable memory of countless
lashings.
Back then, he’d only been a child.
Chloe’s eyes welled as she looked at them.
She’d seen the scars before, yet each time she saw them, the sight of them still shocked her, filled her with anger, and made her chest ache with sorrow.
She regretted not punching Liam harder.
She should have given him a few more blows and perhaps struck him with a whip so he would know what
it felt like.
“If you really think they’re ugly, then I’II—”
Chloe cut him off. “They’re not ugly.”
She stepped closer, her fingers brushing lightly over the scars on his back. His body tensed instantly. “You really don’t think they’re ugly?” he asked.
“If scars are ugly, then I have plenty myself. Would you call those ugly too?” she replied. Having served in the military, she naturally carried her share of scars, both big and small.
“Of course not!” he denied at once.
“Exactly, so yours aren’t ugly either. The only ugly one is the person who caused them. These scars just make me want to take care of you even more.”
She wanted to cherish Brian even more and help him forget the shadows of his childhood.
When she finished speaking, she leaned in and pressed a kiss to the scars on his back. It was a silent way of telling him she never thought they were ugly.
Brian’s body stiffened, but a wave of warmth spread from her lips across his back, seeping into his skin and flowing through his blood.
Slowly, he lifted his head and looked into the mirror above the sink. In the reflection, Chloe was leaning over him, gently kissing the scars on his back.
