Chapter 10
Samuel’s wounds got so infected they had to amputate.
Mom and Dad dragged me along to the hospital to see him.
When we got there, he was just sitting up in bed, staring blankly out the window.
My parents tried cheering him up for a while, but he kept giving me these weird looks.
“Mr. and Mrs. Pierce, could I talk to Eliana alone for a sec?”
My parents stepped out. Samuel was quiet for a moment, then said: “I saw your dance video online. It was really beautiful.”
I just nodded and said thanks-polite but cold.
Samuel let out this bitter laugh.
He looked up at me the way he used to. “When did we become such strangers?”
He was trying to find comfort from me, but I looked away.
Samuel seemed stunned. A tear actually rolled down his face.
Yeah, I probably look like a monster now, right?”
The doctors are gonna cut off my legs, Eliana. I’m gonna be stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. I can’t even walk anymore.”
‘At least you’re marrying the love of your life.”
kept my voice neutral: “Stop making your parents worry. Just focus on getting better so you can be a good
groom.”
I turned to leave. On my way out, I bumped into Dylan, who was also visiting.
I could hear them fighting in the room:
“Dude, you’re totally screwed-what can you even offer Lily now? Just give up and let me have her.”
They couldn’t save Samuel’s legs. The amputation was scheduled right away.
He was stuck in the hospital for weeks. By the time he got out, the wedding was right around the corner.
Chapter 10
His parents said Lily was never home-gone from dawn to dusk every day.
To keep Lily around, his mom even gave her their family heirloom bracelet.
But the night before the wedding, Samuel rolled up to our house in his wheelchair.
The darkness made his burned face look even more terrifying.
“Eliana, wanna go for a walk?”
