A Mistake 1

A Mistake 1

Chapter 1

I was fading away in a hospital bed when Samuel Ellington-my childhood sweetheart-told the doctors to

let me die.

Then I heard him sigh to my brother, Dylan Pierce:

“If your sister hadn’t saved us in that fire, I never would’ve given up Lily to marry that disgusting freak. I thought I owed her. But Lily told me the truth-Eliana lit that fire herself. The bitch staged the whole damn thing-just to break us apart.”

I was desperate, hoping Dylan would fight for me. But he just sighed.

“Doctor said this attack came from complications of her sixth-degree burns. Well, she deserves it.”

“My sister was so pathetically obsessed with keeping Lily away from us. After we got burned, she actually threatened to kill herself- I could’ve married Lily myself and protected her… She’s not getting beaten by

some spoiled rich prick anymore.”

“I’d rather we were the ones with third-degree burns-anything but letting my sister wreck our lives again.”

They blamed me for “destroying” their happiness.

But Lily Ashford is the one who set that fire-all for some twisted bet with her rich boyfriend!

To save them, I can never dance again. And now, I was the one who “ruined their lives.”

When I opened my eyes… I was back at that burning warehouse.

I turned around and headed straight for the dance competition I’d missed.

As you wish. This time, You worthless pieces of shit can burn to death!

When I saw Samuel Ellington and my brother Dylan Pierce trapped in that fire, I got in my car and drove off.

Thick smoke filled my rearview mirror. I didn’t slow down-1 floored it.

In my past life, I’d seen this exact scene and rushed in to save them without thinking,

But I ended up trapped in the flames, my body covered in severe burns

What a joke. All that got me was a painful death.

Well, I’m done getting tangled up in other people’s mess.

Chapter 1

I drove straight to the dance competition I’d missed before, finally got to perform on stage and shine with every rival worthy of the fight.

After the show, I checked my phone. Over a dozen missed calls from my parents.

Latest text: “Come to the hospital ASAP. Dylan’s hurt!”

I slipped my phone away, staring at my perfect, unmarked skin in the mirror. God, what a relief.

When I got to the hospital, they were wheeling Samuel and Dylan out of the ER.

Both looked like mummies, wrapped head to toe in bandages.

The worst part? They were fully conscious, their screams bouncing off every wall.

All four parents were crying, hovering over the gurneys.

“How the hell did this happen? Jesus, look at all those burns. They must be in agony.'”

“Doctor, give them something for the pain! They can’t take this!”

The doctor shook his head. “We have to be careful with pain meds right now.”

They got wheeled into a room. When I walked in, both guys were losing it.

Dylan: “Mom, am I gonna be scarred? Please tell me I won’t be scarred!”

Samuel: “Dad, why can I only feel pain in my upper body? I can’t feel anything below my waist…”

Because your lower half got fried, that’s why.

The worst burns go deep-muscle, bone, everything. The skin goes completely numb.

And when it heals? Ugly as hell.

Looks like burnt canvas, all twisted red and purple scars everywhere.

In my past life, Samuel married me out of guilt. One night he got wasted and said what he really thought.

He traced the scars on my face, disgust all over his.

“Eliana, you need to get skin grafts or something.”

“You know why I wear an eye mask to bed? Cause waking up to that face every morning is nightmare fuel. And that skin… it’s disgusting.”

Chapter 1

Just thinking about it made me clench my fists.
