She had never imagined that one day she would be in such a sorry state.

Now, she didn’t even have time to wonder why Damian wanted to keep her here; all she wanted was to escape as quickly as possible and make it to her interview.

“Mrs. Barrette! Stop Mrs. Barrette!”

The security guard who had been stationed outside the yard immediately stepped forward when he heard the commo- tion, blocking Claudine’s way.

Claudine was just one woman. With so many people in her way, how could she possibly leave so easily?

Besides, at Belmont Villas, if you didn’t have a car, it would take an hour to walk from the villa to the estate’s exit.

Looking at the crowd surrounding her, Claudine felt a wave of despair rise in her heart.

“Mrs. Barrette, please don’t make things difficult for us. Come back with us!”

Angie, out of breath, looked at the besieged Claudine and pleaded earnestly.

Claudine glanced behind her, at the road that led to her freedom.

It was right in front of her, yet no matter what she did, she couldn’t get through.

Damian…

He had blocked that road completely.

“Mrs. Barrette, please don’t make things hard for us… Ah! Mrs. Barrette, what are you doing!”

Angie was still trying to persuade her when she saw Claudine suddenly take out her phone and dial the emergency number.

“Mrs. Barrette!”

“Mrs. Barrette!”

Everyone around was terrified.

Mr. Barrette had only told them to stop Mrs. Barrette from leaving.

But if Mrs. Barrette really called the police and things got out of hand, how would they explain it to Mr. Barrette?

“Let me go!”

Claudine steeled herself.

Even if she had to risk everything today, she was determined to fight for herself.

“Mrs. Barrette, please don’t do this! Mr. Barrette, he…”

Before Angie could finish, Claudine’s thumb was already on the call button.

If this call went through, the Barrette family’s reputation would be completely ruined.

Not to mention, they had just recently appeared together in the media, promoting their harmonious marriage.

Even as a servant, Angie understood that this must never get out.

“Mrs. Barrette! Why put yourself through this? If things get to this point, how will you and Mr. Barrette go on in the future!”

Claudine’s eyes were filled with cold sorrow.

Go on in the future…

She and Damian had long since reached the end.

“Let me go, or I won’t just call the police-I will also expose Damian’s imprisonment of me to the media.”

“Alright, alright, Mrs. Barrette, please don’t be impulsive. We’ll let you go right away.”

Angie told the others to step aside.

Seeing the crowd finally disperse, Claudine didn’t hesitate for a second. She turned and ran out of the yard, afraid that if she was even a moment late, she would never be able to leave.

The villas at Belmont Villas were halfway up the mountain. Only residents were allowed in, and to get out, you had to drive or walk all the way down.

Claudine didn’t dare go back for her car. She could only hurry down the mountain as fast as she could.

She glanced at the time. There were still two hours until her interview. If she hurried, maybe she could still make it.

At this moment, her high heels would only slow her down.

Without hesitation, she took off her shoes and walked barefoot along the mountain road in the middle of winter.

At this hour, there were hardly any cars on the mountain road. Occasionally, a passing vehicle would see a woman walking barefoot in this upscale villa area, but none would stop.

Claudine walked all the way down the mountain and finally got into a taxi.

She hadn’t felt it while walking, but now, sitting in the car, she finally noticed the sharp pain coming from her feet.

Her socks were soaked with blood, stuck to her skin, and every touch sent a stabbing pain through her.

She couldn’t care about her injuries now.

“Driver, please go a little faster!”

Claudine checked her documents again. After confirming that everything was in order, she let out a heavy sigh of re-

lief.

When she arrived at the entrance of Camberwell University, Claudine put on her high heels, endured the pain in her feet, and walked step by step toward the examination hall.

There was still time. Maybe, she could still make it.

Damian had rushed back to Bronzevale early that morning.

Audrey had an interview today. She said she was a bit nervous and wanted him to come back and be with her.

Damian booked the earliest flight and arrived downstairs at Audrey’s place before she left.

He had breakfast with Audrey and accompanied her to the entrance of the examination hall.
