Chapter 15

Chapter 15

Jessica stared at the name “Anna” on her phone screen, her heart instantly racing.

Jose noticed her unease and gripped her hand: “Don’t answer.”

“I want to hear what she has to say.”

Jessica took a deep breath and answered the call.

“Jessica, it’s me.”

Anna’s voice trembled slightly, “I want to meet you.”

“We have nothing to say.”

“We do.”

Anna said urgently, “About William, I must tell you the truth.”

Jessica frowned: “What truth?”

“It’s too complicated over the phone.”

“Tomorrow night at eight, at the Abandoned Harbor Warehouse, just us two.”

“I won’t go.”

“Jessica, if you care even a little about William, come.”

Anna’s voice choked up, “You can’t imagine what he’s like now.”

The call ended.

Jose’s face darkened: “What trick is she playing?”

“I don’t know.”

Jessica shook her head, “But I feel something’s wrong.’

“Then don’t go.”

Jessica paused: “Jose, if I don’t go, will I regret it forever?”

Jose saw the struggle in her eyes and felt uneasy.

The next night, Jessica still went.

Chapter 15

The Abandoned Harbor Warehouse was vast and chilly, with only a few dim lights.

Anna was already waiting, several strange men standing beside her.

Jessica instantly became alert: “What are you trying to do?”

“I want you to taste betrayal.”

Anna tore off her mask, revealing a vicious smile, “Think you’re noble?”

“Stole Jose, still playing victim?”

“I didn’t steal anyone.”

“Stop pretending!”

Anna became hysterical, “William’s ruined because of you! Jose’s obsessed with you!”

“Why do all good men chase you?”

The men began closing in.

Jessica stepped back: “Anna, you’re insane!”

“Yes, I’m insane.”

Anna sneered, “Can’t have it? Then destroy it.”

“After tonight, see if Jose still wants used goods like you!”

Just as the men moved, the warehouse door burst open.

William rushed in, Jose right behind him.

“Stop!”

William roared.

Anna froze: “How are you here?”

“Jose told me.”

William moved toward Jessica, “Jessica, you okay?”

Jessica looked at him, emotions tangled.

Jose swiftly shielded Jessica: “Anna, you’re dead!”

“Hahaha!”

Anna laughed wildly, “William, see?”

“She’s got Jose protecting her! Doesn’t need you!”

Chapter 15

William paled but stood firm: “No matter what, I won’t let her get hurt.”

“How touching.”

Anna pulled a knife from her bag, “Then let’s all die!”

She charged madly at Jessica.

William lunged without hesitation-the blade stabbed his leg.

“Ah!”

William collapsed in agony.

“William!”

Jessica screamed.

Jose swiftly pinned Anna down as bodyguards restrained the other men.

“Why did you save me?”

Jessica knelt beside William, tears welling in her eyes.

William smiled weakly: “Because I love you.

Even if you don’t love me anymore, I’ll protect you.”

“You waste!” Anna snapped, struggling against restraints. “Is she worth dying for?”

“Worth it.” William gazed at Jessica. “I’m content doing one last thing for her.”

The ambulance arrived, siren wailing.

At the hospital, William was rushed into surgery.

Jessica waited in the hallway, Jose standing beside her.

“Worried about him?” Jose asked.

“I don’t know.” Jessica shook her head. “I thought I’d completely moved on, but seeing him hurt for me… my he still aches.”

Jose stayed silent.

Three hours later, the surgery ended.

The doctor emerged: “He’s stable, but leg nerve damage may cause lasting effects.”

Jessica exhaled.

In the recovery room, William’s eyes lit up seeing her. “You stayed?”

“Just ensuring you’re alright.” Her voice remained steady. “Now that you’re safe, I’m leaving.”

“Jessica, wait.” William struggled upright. “I know we can’t go back, but loving you was my greatest blessing.”

Jessica paused at the door, not turning. “William, take care of yourself.”

Outside, Jose waited.

“Let’s go.” She linked arms with him.

“No regrets?”

“None.” Determination hardened her tone. “I’m grateful he saved me, but it changes nothing.

The past stays buried.”

Jose clasped her hand tightly.

In the car, Jessica leaned against his shoulder. “Jose, when shall we marry?”

“Your choice.”

“Soonest possible. I need a clean start.”

He kissed her forehead. “Tomorrow, I’ll arrange everything.”

Suddenly, Jose’s phone rang.

Caller ID flashed: William Anderson.

Jessica stiffened slightly.

After a hesitation, Jose answered.

“Jose. We need to talk.” William’s weak voice filtered through, “About Jessica.”
