Chapter43
“But Mr. Burnham, if I recall correctly, didn’t Mr. Schroeder just say a few days ago in public that he didn’t know Courtney, and told certain people not to claim kinship so recklessly?”
“Your memory doesn’t seem too good.”
Florentino’s face instantly darkened.
But looking at the charming woman before him, with her captivating eyes, he took a deep breath and managed to re- strain himself from losing his temper.
That starry gown hugged her curvaceous figure, and under the lights, her fair skin was almost translucent. Her deli- cate collarbones, adorned with diamonds, dazzled the eyes.
Many people were glancing over in their direction.
Their gazes were appraising, and some were even tinged with ill intent.
Florentino pressed his lips together. The next second, he took off his suit jacket and tried to drape it over Sandria’s shoulders.
“Alright, everyone’s watching. Stop acting like a child. I’m doing this for your own good. Ashlan and Fulbert aren’t people you can afford to provoke! You need to stay away from them. And as for this dress…”
“It’s too revealing. Go change it right now. I prefer you wearing something like this just for me.”
He leaned in, his hawk–like eyes, as always, filled with possessiveness and deep displeasure.
In the past, Sandria thought this was a sign of his love.
But now, all she felt was disgust.
This wasn’t love–it was control.
This man had always been selfish. Just like now, when he wanted to climb higher, she was expected to willingly be his stepping stone.
A cold glint flashed in Sandria’s eyes.
She quickly sidestepped.
Florentino’s suit jacket slid off her rounded shoulder and finally… fell to the floor.
“Mr. Burnham, please show some respect. I have a boyfriend now, and he’s very jealous. He doesn’t like me carrying anyone else’s scent. Besides…”

Her voice turned cold, all traces of her earlier smile gone.

“As for that email from your company’s legal department, you don’t need to follow up anymore. I’ve found a better partner, so you can forget about that patent.”
The air seemed to freeze at that moment.
Florentino narrowed his eyes slightly, staring at Sandria.
“What did you say?”
“I said, I already have a new sponsor.” Sandria deliberately used a flippant, provocative tone. “And my new sponsor is richer than you, more powerful than you, and… much more generous.”
“Impossible!”
Florentino blurted out, then laughed angrily.
“Sandria, if you’re going to make up stories, at least make them believable. Besides me and Eaveton, who else would dare take your patent? Who do you think you are?”
He was convinced she was just bluffing, using this ridiculous tactic to spite him.
“Fine, then tell me–who’s your new sponsor? Is it Fulbert, or Ashlan, whom you’ve been pestering?”
Sandria looked at his arrogant, almost conceited demeanor, and suddenly found it amusing.
Had she been so humble before that she made this man feel as if he couldn’t live without her?
She leaned in a little closer, her red lips nearly brushing his ear, and spoke in a voice only the two of them could hear, her breath warm and fragrant.
“Take a guess. But don’t be impatient. You’ll find out soon enough.”
That warm breath, tinged with a tingling itch, also carried her unique scent.
It was both seductive and bewitching, making Florentino’s eyes darken slightly as he prepared to grab her slender
waist.
But at that moment, Sandria straightened up, took a step back, and put some distance between them.
Just then.
A deliberately surprised and somewhat sharp female voice suddenly rang out from not far away.
“Oh! Tino, what are you two… talking about?”
Florentino and Sandria turned their heads at the same time.
They saw Courtney standing not far away, arm in arm with a woman of cold elegance and stunning beauty.
Courtney wore an innocent, naive expression, but her big eyes sparkled with jealousy and the excitement of watching
