Seeing the determination in her eyes, Ashlan said nothing more, only stroked her head affectionately. 

Sandria was in a pretty good mood when she returned to her apartment. 

Meanwhile, in the apartment across the street, Fulbert was on the phone. 

“Bert, have you thought it over? The long–lost daughter of the Schroeder family is coming back, and you must attend the banquet the day after tomorrow! You and the Schroeder family are a perfect match, so hurry up and secure this marriage…” 

“Grandpa,” Fulbert interrupted the old man, a hint of helplessness in his voice. 

“I’ll say it again, I’m not interested in the Schroeder family’s heiress. I’ll decide my own marriage.” 

With that, he hung up directly, tossed his phone onto the sofa, and rubbed his tired brow.

Time flew by, and in the blink of an eye, it was the day before the Schroeder Group’s banquet. 

All of Eaveton’s high society had received those gilded invitations, and the entire city was abuzz with excitement for the upcoming grand event. 

Courtney was holding a few candid photos, a cold sneer on her face that was completely at odds with her innocent ap- 

pearance. 

The photos showed Sandria and Ashlan having an intimate conversation at the entrance of a restaurant. 

Taken from her cunning angle, the two looked just like a couple madly in love. 

“Sandria, don’t you want to be the young mistress of the Schroeder family? I’ll make sure you’re utterly disgraced in front of everyone.” 

Ashlan’s official fiancee, her future sister–in–law, was no pushover. 

If she saw her fiance being so close with another woman at the banquet, things would definitely get interesting. Meanwhile, Sandria was at home, calmly picking out dresses Ashlan had sent her, her mood as tranquil as ever. 

After choosing a dress, she went into the bathroom. As her clothes slipped off her shoulders, her fair skin looked as smooth and flawless as jade. 

The warm water caressed her skin, the massaging jets gliding over her shoulders, back, and waist with just the right amount of pressure. 

Florentino hadn’t bothered her these past few days.

But she had a feeling it wouldn’t be long. 

Sure enough, as soon as she stepped out of the bathroom, her phone rang. 

She stretched out her slender arm to pick it up and saw it was an unfamiliar number. 

Sandria raised an eyebrow, then pressed the answer button. 

On the other end of the line came Florentino’s deep voice. 

“Sandy, you still haven’t blocked my number?” 

“Mr. Burnham, if you have something to say, say it. Otherwise, I’ll report you for harassment.” 

Her lazy tone was laced with schadenfreude and mockery.

Florentino thought of the time he was locked up at the police station, his brows furrowing. But then, as if remember- ing something, he quickly softened his tone. 

“Sandy, how long are you going to keep this up? Your tricks are getting more and more sophisticated. Last time with the photos, I just wanted you to give in a little. Did you really think I could bear to hurt you? Come on, stop it, be good, will you? The Schroeder family is not someone you can mess with, and neither is Fulbert.” 

“There’s no need to play with fire just to get my attention.” 

Listening to his slightly condescending advice, 

Sandria found it utterly ridiculous and let out a soft snort. 

“Ha, trying to get your attention? Mr. Burnham, you really think too highly of yourself. If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up. Don’t ruin my mood.” 

Apparently, her unyielding attitude had completely infuriated the man. 

His deep voice now carried a hint of danger. 

“Sandria, are you really going to talk to me like this? You’re going too far!” 

Even now, he still thought she was just making a scene. 

Sandria found it amusing and was about to hang up. 

But the man’s voice came through the phone again.
